I love blackberries, the berries not the mobile kind (actually I quite like my Blackberry too until I was pressured to join the iPhone family generation).
We are lucky that a few vines of blackberries grow each year in our garden giving us sumptious produce of berries which are so temptingly hanging in its full ripeness glory by the pergola. They are so delicious. Even my grandson, Nathan, would ask to have some.
I would sometimes gather the berries and then wash them and put them in a bowl with vinegar and a little salt. I love this and Peter would also try to have some.
One day I would make a blackberry pie. I hope to this year.
Blackberries are a useful source of vitamin C, which boost the immune system. They also contain fibre and folate.
One thing to think about when consuming a great amount of blackberries is that it contains salicylates, which is a natural aspirin. If you are allergic to aspirin then take care when eating blackberries you might end up having a bout of asthma or end up climbing up the wall as a result of hyperactivity. 🙂

This is how I like my blackberries, swimming in cider vinegar with a dash of salt. Most refreshing on a summer’s day. Photo by
Did you know?
There is a superstition in the UK about the blackberries and the devil! Well apparently one must not pick anymore blackberries after Michaelmas day which is around 11th October because the nasty devil would have claimed the berries for himself and would have left his mark on them by pecking at them or even urinating at them. yeuchhhh. No wonder the berries by this time would be moldy.
