Episode 1
What an interesting first episode. I love it.
The drama started with a typical kdrama within a kdrama scenario.
Baek Hyun Woo works at Queen’s Group in the legal department. He met a intern who seemed determined to kick the photocopier to submission. Baek Hyun Woo could not take the abuse so he showed her how to use the machine properly.
What he did not know was that the intern who happened to be Hong Hai-in is the granddaughter of the chairman of Queen’s Group.
Anyway, Baek Hyun Woo did not know these and over time he continued to keep an eye on the feisty intern.
Then one day, Hong Hai In asked him if he was crushing on her. Hyun Woo said that though he was not very rich, he is still comfortably of, a graduate of Seoul National University, his parents own lands and had almost 35 cows. He had also paid his rent for two years in advance. He said that though he preferred his future wife to work, he can support her himself.
Hong Hai In could not help but smirk although at the same time she was fascinated by such a guileless guy.
When he finally found out that Hong Hai is a third generation chaebol, he resigned and ghosted her.
She found him in his village. They were then married.
But three years on, their married life is in tatters. They live in the nuclear family of the Hongs. It was stressful to live with greatgranpa, grandpa, father, mother, various aunts and uncles and cousins in one roof.
Poor Hyun Woo was so stressed that he sought the help of a psychiatrist.
Hyun Woo poured all his troubles and woes to the psychiatrist (played by Oh Jung Se). Hyun Woo said that he hated the Hong family but he detested his wife more. He decided that there is nothing else to do but divorce her.
So he went to his family in Yongduri Village. It looked like that they are not much better than the Hongs because when he told them that he planned to divorce Hai In, they discouraged him not because they value the sanctity of marriage but because they will lose the perks of being affiliated with the rich and influential Queen’s Group.
Anyway, he made up his mind and went home to confront Hae In about it. He had already printed a divorce contract but when he saw her, she insisted to tell him the her news first.
She said that she went to the hospital for the result of her test, she did ask him to go with her but he refused not knowing that it was the hospital she wanted to take him to.
She delivered her bombshell. She has a terminal illness and would not last longer than three months.
Suddenly, Hyun Woo could not tell her about his wish for a divorce.
