Episodes 1 – 2

I have to admit I am not a Wang Churan fan because in the dramas I have seen her in, she played the nymphet/other woman.

But I loved her in this drama.  She looks so innocent and adorable.

I love this drama.  The cinematography is so good.

Anyway, it started in 2012, Ruan Liu Zheng was a medical student.  Her teacher/adviser was Ning Zhi Qian, who was so handsome she was crushing on him.

She was so in love with him, she can’t look him in the eye and would just jot down diligently everything she hears into her notepad.

But then, she and her other classmates were rather behind in their class so Dr Ning took them under his wing to give them extra tuition.

Dr Ning asked Ruan what were her phobias why she can’t deal with cadaver.  She told him that she had a lot, she was scared of looking at dead bodies, she was scared of ghosts, she was scared of heights, she was even scared of horror movies.

One by one, Dr Ning made not only Ruan but the other three of his ‘special students’ overcome their fears by taking them bungee jumping, watching horror films, and the scare them to death.

Anyway, Ruan fell more madly in love with Dr Ning so she invited him to have a meal with the group to thank him for his help and support.

Ruan was so excited but then when Dr Ning turned up, he was with his fiancee, Miao Miao.  Ruan was absolutely crashed.  For the next few days she tried to keep away from Dr Ning.  But she seemed to get in the way between Dr Ning and Miao Miao.

Miao Miao said to Ruan that she knew Ruan has a crush on Dr Ning.  Ruan said that she was not a problem, and she wishes both Miao Miao and Dr Ning a happy life.

Miao Miao said that she knows and finds Ruan adorable.

Anyway, Ruan heard Miao Miao and Dr Ning arguing about their forthcoming wedding.  Miao Miao said that she has to leave to support a friend and would like to postpone their wedding.  Dr NIng was not having any of it because he wanted his mother to attend.  His mother was leaving for Africa to build a hospital and she would likely to be there for two years so they had to get married soon.

But then Miao Miao broke up with Dr Ning.  She said she was in love with someone else.

Dr Ning was absolutely gutted.  Ruan was so worried she started stalking him to make sure that he was not drinking himself silly.

But he did and she had to escort him to his house where she met his mother who was leaving for Africa the next day.  His mother liked Ruan for her openness and cheerfulness.

The next day, Director Ning commented to Ning Liu Zheng that she was glad that he broke up with Miao Miao.  He needed a girl who is cheerful and open like Ruan.

Then 2019…

Ruan is now a neurosurgeon and was on her way to Daya, a small town in Africa, where she was tasked to fetch and escort an ailing Mr Zhao back to China.

Daya had a civil war and often, opposing factions would gun each other out.  The Dhal Chinese Ambulance that fetched Ruan from the airport was gunned down and the ambulance driver was shot.  She was able to remove the bullet from the driver but then she was kidnapped.

What happened to her was heard by the medical team at Dhal Chinese Hospital which was the hospital built by Director Ning and where Dr Ning was now working.

Dr Ning went to rescue Ruan from the kidnappers.  Zhezhi, the leader asked him why he would risk his life for a woman.

Dr Ning said that Ruan was his ex-wife.

Dr Ning and Ruan were allowed to go after they treated each of the members of the troupe who were needing medical attention.

Anyway, Dr Ning and Ruan were very civil to each other.  Ruan had grown up.  She found out that Director Ning had died in a road accident in Daya.

After a few days in Daya, Ruan said that she will be leaving with Mr Zhao soon but then Mr Zhao had an emergency operation and can’t fly safely just yet so Ruan had to leave alone.

She was driven partway to the airport by Dr Ding but she had to take over as he lacked sleep and was nodding off during the drive.

Episode 3

I am really loving this drama.  Churan is really adorable.

Anyway, back in 2012 she really did pursue Dr Ning, though rather gently not pushy.  Dr Ning noticed

Episode 4

Being an intern to Dr Ning was the most coveted but Ruan found out not the most exciting but a real hard work.  She became in charge of the paperwork.

Dr Ning drove her home and then happened to mention that he has a six years old son.

Ruan was aghast as they have divorced six years ago.

Episode 5

Dr Cheng returned to Beiya.  Dr Cheng was Dr Ning’s Best Man at his wedding to Ruan.  Dr Ning told him to not breathe a word about Dr Ning’s relationship to anyone because they have not told anyone.

Episode 6

2019: Dr Ning asked Ruan to fetch his son from kindergarten.  Ruan declined at first but he insisted.

When she got the boy from the nursery, he kept looking at her and then told her that she was his mommy.  He was very certain of it.

2012: Dr Ning and Ruan were happy enough.  But a text message from Miao Miao Ruan saw on Dr Ning’s phone brought out her old insecurity that she was only a substitute and that it was only a one-sided love.

Episode 7

Ning Xiang asked Ruan to go with him so the kindergarten sports day.

Ruan found out that Ning Xiang was not really his biological son but left by the hospital with a tumour when he was. baby.  So he ended adopting him.

Anyway, both Ruan and Dr Ning were hopeless at the games during the sport’s day.

Episode 8

Still, they were given the best family award for being the best looking family.

2012:  I must say, Ruan only had one negligee which she wore all the time. 🤣🤣🤣. Come on shouldn’t she bought more sexy lingerie?

She felt they were drifting apart.

Episode 9

Dr Ning went to America for further study without really telling her.  Poor Ruan felt rather sorry for herself because she had an appendectomy and had to go to the hospital by herself.

When she got better, she decided to go to America to surprise him but she was the one surprised. She saw him so happy with other people but he was always depressed when he was with her.

Episode 10

2013: Straight from the airport when Ruan fetch Dr Ning when he arrived from America, Ruan said that they should go to the civil registrar’s office to lodge their divorce petition.  Ruan was thinking that she would probably had stayed if only he hugged her but he did not.

Dr Ning was thinking that probably she would run back to him and they will hug and everything will be ok.

But she did not as that was 6 years ago.

2019: Dr Ning was happy to use Ning Xiang to get closer to Ruan.

Ruan agreed to her mother’s suggestion of going on a blind date.

Episode 11

Ruan went on a blind date with a self-important professor of Biology.  He fell in love with her at first sight but when he found out that she was a divorcee and that Dr Ning was her ex-husband, Ge Xing, the blind date, said that he was willing to get together with her under three conditions.  First, she transfers out of Bai Ya Hospital, no contact with Dr Ning, give monetary support to little Ning Xiang but not to bring him into their family.

Ruan told him that he deserves someone else and not her.  Ge Xing though had other ideas and getting rather forceful until Dr Ning turned up and shooed him away.

Episode 12

Dr Ning thought that Ruan had learned her lesson not to go on blind dates but he did not expect that the perfect guy would turn up for her in the form of a high-powered lawyer, Xue Wei Lin, who was a son of Ruan’s father’s friend.

Dr Ning felt jealous when Xue Wei Lin turned up in the hospital to celebrate the new year with Ruan.

Episodes 13 – 14

I must say, I feel that this drama lost a bit of its gravitas.  The excitement had fizzled a bit because the angst of their previous relationship is over.

And there were so many filler scenes in these episodes like the patient dancing on the rooftop before the busy doctors and nurses the night before he had his brain surgery.  Really?!!!

Now, Ruan is being pursued by the gorgeous Xue Wei Lin.  This development is disconcerting Dr Ning who is still not really made a move although he is possessive of Ruan.

Meanwhile, Dr Ding finally gave up on Dr Ning.  Dr Cheng was there to catch her but found there is a new rival.

It looks like the real mother of cute Ning Xiang will surface soon.

Episode 15

It was very uncomfortable at Ruan’s house as both Dr Ning and Xue Wei Lin turned up for dinner. Dr Ning was there to see Ruan’s paper that she needed to present at a seminar.  Xue Wei Lin is a favourite of Father Ruan because they like to play chess together.

For some reason, Ruan Lang does not like Xue Wei Lin.  He thinks that his sister was only meant for Dr Ning.

Ruan’s speech was a success but she ended up feeling jealous of an old friend of Dr Ning who seemed overly familiar with him.

Dr Cheng and Dr Ding’s patient has erectile dysfunction.  The patient was reluctant to have Dr ‘Ding involved because she is a woman.

Ruan Lang is comforting Tan Ya from her husband woes who they saw with another woman in a restaurant.

Episode 16

Tan Ya told Ruan that she gave her husband another chance after he promised to drop his mistress.

Dr Ning assigned Ruan her first surgery where she is the major surgeon.

Ruan was elated and excited at first until a jealous Dr Ding told her that the patient is a game developer genius.  If Ruan makes a mistake she could potentially ruin China’s gaming industry.

Suddenly, Ruan panicked and told Dr Ning to assign the surgery to someone else.  Dr Ning got annoyed with her saying that surgeons do not pick and choose.

But in the end, it does not really matter because the patient’s mother who arrived from Australia said that she does not agree with a new surgeon using her son as a practice for a surgeon.

Episode 17

The biological mother of Ning Xiang kidnapped him from school.  Ruan knew who took him immediately.  Ruan called Juan, the mother, and threatened her with the police if she refused to say where they were.

Juan was forced to give the address.

When Dr Ning and Ruan arrived they found a very distressed Ning Xiang. They took Ning Xiang home.

Later on, Juan asked Dr Ning and Ruan to meet up in a restaurant.  Juan begged Dr Ning to return Ning Xiang back to her.  She added that Dr Ning is so busy with work, he really had no time for Ning Xiang.  This only made Dr Ning angry and told Juan to get a DNA test.

Meanwhile, the stress got to Dr Ning.  Ning Xiang called Ruan to inform her that Dr Ning was very ill.

He had the flu.

Anyway, Dr Cheng was in trouble with Dr Ding.  There was a woman who came to the hospital who seemed to be pregnant.  She told the doctor that she was Dr Cheng’s fiancee.

Episode 18

Ning Xiang decided to go live with Juan and when Dr Ning told him that he was his son, Ning Xiang threw a tantrum and cried and cried.

So Dr Ning gave in and allowed Juan to take Ning Xiang with her. This time, Ning Xiang cried and cried as he could not bear to leave Dr Ning after all.

But it was too late the taxi was waiting.  Dr Ning told Juan to let him know if the tumour recurs on Ning Xiang.

Ruan operated as the game developer after all and did a stellar job.  When she asked for an evaluation from Dr Ning, he said it was perfection which a requirement for every surgeon so she should not become a big head.

Ruan became downhearted from being chastised.  But Xue Wei Lin turned up to take her out to dinner to celebrate.

What she did not know was that Dr Ning booked a table in a restaurant to celebrate with her so he had to cancel.

When Dr Ning got home, he was so lonely so he called Ning Xiang and asked him to call Mommy Ruan immediately.  He then pretended to be ill again.

Seriously, Ruan should not be at Dr Ning’s beck and call anymore otherwise their relationship will still be off-sided, and unbalanced.

Episode 19

Aww the two reconciled.  Dr Ning admitted that he was so jealous of Xue Wei Lin and that he likes her.  So then ended up in bed and totally loved up.

I must say they are so cute.  The chemistry is overflowing.

Episode 20

Mr Ning asked Ruan to make Dr Ning behave at the wedding of his 8th Brother.  Apparently, Madam Liu, his stepmother was attending who Dr Ning can’t stand.

Dr Ning told Ruan a little bit of the history.  When his parents divorced, he expected that his father would look after him but he lost his father who married Madam Liu.  The boys in the orphanage became his family.

Anyway, Ruan and Dr Ning are getting on well.  He then casually said that he had some free time the following week and they should remarry.

Ruan was shocked, not happy.  She told Tan Ya that she was not doing this again, she wants to feel the he really wanted to marry her. She wanted a proper proposal.

Suddenly, Dr Ning was keeping away from her.

Ruan went out with the Neurosurgeons and nurses for a night out.  They ended up in the cinema.

At the end of a classic film, a montage of Ruan and Dr Ning’s photos came on the screen.  Ruan was tearful with excitement because she knew what was about to happen.

Episode 21

It was as she expected a very romantic proposal from Dr Ning and she said yes tearfully and excitedly.

Later, at the apartment, she confessed that she regretted the divorce and missed him during the six years they were apart.  She asked him to tell her he loves her again and he did willingly over and over again.

She was giddy with happiness but evaporated almost immediately when they went back to work the next day.

Their friends and colleagues at neuro dept welcomed them with flowers and red envelopes.  Instead of being happy, Dr Ning started snapping at them for wasting time and not being busy with work.

From there it got worst and worst for Ruan.  She confided to Tan Ya that the man who proposed to her the other night was not the same person in the light of day.  Tan Ya symphatised with Ruan but at the same told her the Dr Ning is a good guy.

Anyway, Mr Ning with Madam Liu started to look for an engagement/wedding venue for Dr Ning and Ruan.

Dr Ning told Ruan that it was really her day so she choose and he will go along with everything and anything.  Ruan was upset after Dr Ning also said that they don’t need to take new wedding photos as they already had one from their first wedding and they can just recycle their old wedding rings.  But what really broke Ruan was finding the Marriage Proposal package on Dr Ning’s computer.  He just paid someone to arrange everything.  Even what he had said when he proposed to her was written by the company.

She realised that Dr Ning was no different from the first time they gotten married.

So the next day when they were supposed to register their marriage, she did not turn up.

Dr Ning was so annoyed for the time wasted and told her so.  Ruan told him that they should break up.

Dr Ning confided with his brother-in-law, Xiao Er, what had happened.

Xiao Er asked him if he really loves Ruan.

Dr Ning said that they are compatible and he is not getting any younger.  Ruan suits him.

I supposed this is only episode 21 so a breakup and misunderstanding are bound to happen. 🤣🤣🤣

Episode 22

Tan Ya forgave her duplicitous husband yet again.  He pretended to have changed into an ideal husband because when they eventually divorce, he will be able to contest the division of properties and he intends to end up with their house.  All the time, he was still in contact with his mistress.

Ruan is leading Dr Ning a merry dance.  He did try to make up with her but Xue Wei Lin was always on the way including when the Neuro Dept was rewarded with an away day.  Somehow, Xue Wei Lin ended up going with the group.

Ruan did see that Dr Ning made a bit of an effort to please her but she was still playing hard to get.

Episode 23

Tan Ya’s husband was involved in a car accident with his mistress. They were taken to Beiya Hosptial.  Dr Ding and Ruan operated.

The husband recovered and Tan Ya told him that she will divorced him.  He can keep their savings while she gets the house.  Her mother-in-law was complaining until Tan Ya played a recording of her husband’s phone call to his lover that he had to bide his time to divorce so he could keep the house.  It was all his plan.

Their issue was discussed by Dr Ding and Ruan on the rooftop of the hospital.  Dr Ding confessed to Ruan that he really loves her now but at the same time, he said that they should not remarry.

Ruan was shocked at first so Dr Ding had to explain that his parent’s divorce was because his mother was a doctor through and through.  His mother neglected her family, her husband, and her son for the sake of her vocation.  She lived and breathe her job.  Dr Ding thinks a good doctor is like that.  You are on call 24/7 and when not at work you continue to think of your patients.  So he can’t give Ruan a family life

To his surprise, Ruan agreed to the breakup and said that she understood.  They will be just Teacher and pupil from now on.  He promised to teach her everything he knows.

Ruan was just leaving when she turned back and told him that she taught a lot during the last few days and decided to give them another chance but breaking up all together was a good decision too.

This really shocked Dr Ding.  So shocked, he was finding it hard to come to terms to what happened but Ruan started to move on and knuckle down to her studies.

Episode 24

Life goes on. Ruan tried living with Dr Ding as just a mentor while she goes on date with Xue Wei Lin, who seemed like a really nice guy that even Ning Xiang was won over and considered Xue Wei Lin as a big brother.

Dr Ding was getting on really well with her lap dog, Dr Cheng.  She had mellowed quite a bit and now considers Ruan as a friend rather than her rival in everything.

Episode 25

Ruan was highly lauded for having saved the retired mayor.  She became very popular.  Young doctors were chatting her up.

Meanwhile, Dr Ning is becoming obsessed with Ruan.  He watches her every move.

He was so annoyed because he actually ordered 30 lamb barbecues for himself and Ruan but Xue Wei Lin turned up with homemade lunch for him and Ruan.

Poor Dr Ning had to eat the barbecues all to himself which gave him a digestion problem as he has a weak stomach for greasy food.

Ruan had to take him to the emergency department for treatment and then drove him home.  He told her to come to his apartment to pick up the rest of her things.

Episode 26

Madam Liu was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. Mr Ning found out about it as his wife did not really hide the medical documents well despite trying to hide her illness from him.🤣🤣🤣

He knew how much his son loathe Madame Liu but hey, his son is the only brain surgeon capable enough to operate on his wife.🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪

So he went to his son’s house and pretended to check on Ning Xiang and Dr Ning.

But Dr Ning knew better and before he knew it his father had told him that Madam Liu is very ill with brain tumour.

Dr Ning told him where to go, meaning to f-off🤪🤪🤪

Mr Ning can’t be deterred so he called Ruan to ask her to convince Dr Ning to operate on Madam Liu.

Ruan has always been the do-gooder so she tried her best to convince Dr Ning to change his mind.

He told her more of his back story.

His father left him without a backward glance despite his begging and crying for him to stay.  His father left because his wife did not have time for him.  He left knowing that his wife did not have time for her son as well.  The father left without taking him with him.  His mother, despite being very busy with work, really loved his father because the time when he saw his mother, she would be looking at family photos and having a good cry.

He did try to look for his father and walked for miles and got lost.  His mother eventually found him and went to Mr Ning and ask to remarry.  But it was too late.  Mr Ning was already in a relationship with Madam Liu not even six months after the separation/divorce.

Dr Ning said that with all this angst inside of him, he can’t operate on Madam Liu because he is not a robot surgeon but a human too.

Ruan said she understood but in the next breath, she told him to get over himself.  He is such a drama queen. 🤣🤣🤣

Seriously these two really should not be together.  She lacks empathy towards him while she is doubling as Florence Nightingale with everyone else.🤣🤣

Episode 27

Dr Ning as can be expected operated on Madam Liu.  Ruan was in the operating room as well and hero-worshipping Dr Ning.

It was a success.  Mr Ning was very grateful and made a feast for Dr Ning later on.  He did confess to his son that he was aware that Zhiqian was begging him to stay but he did not look back because he was a selfish shit.

Meanwhile, a serial criminal was admitted to the hospital with a brain tumour.  He took his chance to escape by making Dr Ding his hostage but Dr Cheng threw himself at him but the criminal was too strong. Xue Wei Lin with Ruan heard the commotion and joined in apprehending the criminal.  Poor Xue Wei Lin was so brave but he was stabbed with a tiny scalper.🤣🤣🤣 so he was rushed to the emergency room.

Dr Ning later on asked Ruan if she was upset with Dr Ning operating on the criminal who assaulted them.

Episode 28

Xue Wei Lin milked his getting wounded for all it’s worth.  He then told Ruan that he was doing it for her.  He is such a lovely guy.  He was making Dr Ning jealous so he makes up with Ruan.

Xue Wei Lin seemed to have met his own love interest in the hospital.  It was his doctor, Dr Ai Fei.  She is the female version of Dr Ning, a no-nonsense lady.

Speaking about nonsense or no sense at all, Ruan Lang dropped Dr Ning in the deepest hottest water in the hospital.

It started with a lie.  To make himself looked like the knight in shining armour with Tan Ya, he rented a plush apartment for her and her daughter.  The thing is that he is penniless and had this wild idea that he will become a popular actor one day soon.

But because he was being asked to pay the rent, he accepted a bribe from a patient for a promise that Dr Ning was going to operate on his father.

Dr Ning did not know anything about it.  He was then reported for accepting a bribe.

Episode 29

Dr Ning was suspended at work.  He told Ruan Lang not to let his sister know but the bribe.

But it did come out in the end and Tan Ya had to leave her plush apartment while Ruan decided not to accept Beiya Hospital’s letter of appointment.

What kind of an ending is that?

Ruan went to Africa to find Dr Ning.  She was shocked to know that he does not know her.  She was told he has amnesia.   What the heck?!!!
