I do love cooking Chilli Con Carne for my husband. He likes his chilli really hot.
I do feel lucky that there are so many ready made sauces to choose from any supermarket nowadays.
You can get them in jars and even in sachets as powder mix.
I have to say that I cook it using the jar one but I do add a teaspoon more powdered chilli to it, to really make it hot which makes Peter take a dose of Gaviscon just before bed. 😉
Chilli Con Carne Recipe
This is how I do it using Mexican chilli con carne sauce.
Ingredients:
1/2 kilo ground beef
Olive oil or any vegetable oil
1 red pepper, diced
1 Mexican jar, Chilli con carne sauce
1 can of red kidney beans
1 onion, chopped
salt and pepper to taste.
As my husband likes it hot, I usually add extra chilli powder to the mixture.
Procedure:
Cook ground beef in a pan with a splash of olive oil.
Add the onion and then the red pepper. Cook until tender.
Add the jar of Chilli con carne sauce and that extra chilli powder for a bit of oomph
Add red kidney beans.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Mix well and cook for another 10 minutes.
Enjoy it with rice or chips
