It is not really an exciting first episode. The female lead being a doctor is somewhat stupid.
Anyway, it started in Heideberg, Germany, where Mint was being ushered into a palatial mansion. The housekeeper warned her many things including making sure not to draw the curtains to let the light in. If she found it too dark, she can turn on the lamp.
Despite, the instruction being weird, Mint was prepared for it afterall she is a doctor and she was used to idiosyncrasies of patients.
She was shown a room to go too. She knock a few times but there was no answer so she let herself into the room. At a dark corner of the room, she saw a pathetic, very pale man who was sitting on a wheelchair.
She was shocked to see him and she started to tear up. The guy was Fu Yushen who she recognised from before. She crouched down in front of him feeling sorry for his current state. She asked him what happened? How did he end up like that?
It was too much for Yushen. He can’t bear the pity in her eyes so he told her to get out. He kept repeating until Mint did get up and left.
Two years earlier…
Yushen come from a family who owns a pharmaceutical firm. He is a botanist himself. Yushen wanted to do more research about a rare medicinal plant and ask his brother, Fu Zihou, to arrange it for him to travel to Indonesia (?)
It so happened, Uncle Han, who worked in an orphanage in Indonesia, contacted Mint to give him a hand as there was an outbreak in the village.
Mint was not enthusiastic at first because she had been there previously when she was young. In fact it was her parents who built the orphanage/health centre but during those time, it was quite a chaotic period. She saw people massacred including her parents while she hid in a cupboard. The event still gives her nightmares to date.
Uncle Han understood but told her that perhaps to get over her trauma, she had to confront it in the face.
So she packed her suitcase and backpack.
At the airport, she was told that her luggage was way over the limit so she had to pay extra. She was taken aback by how much. Hearing that the next people in line to her were Chinese so she begged them to take some of her stuff with them. Really, a doctor asking someone to act as her mule?!!! Is she out of her mind?
Anyway the guys were Yushen and his driver/assistant, Chen Le. Yushen, and rightly so, categorically declined to help her.
What she did was to wear most of her packed clothes from her hand carry.
Anyway, they arrived in Indonesia. Uncle Han sent a taxi for her while Yushen and Chen Le were waiting for a taxi that might not turn up.
Chen Le begged Mint to carpool. After playing with them, she told them that she would only allow them to share if she could have a photo of Yushen’s passport.
As it happen, they were staying at the same hotel.
The next morning, Mint was waiting for a ride when Yushen and Chen Le passed by. Yushen cheekily waved her goodbye.
Finally, she arrived at the orphanage. Uncle Han told her that the village had some trouble but he had arranged someone to go with her.
And what would do know? It was Yushen and Chen Le.
29 August 2020: The filming ceremony for this drama is held today.
This drama is based on a BL (Boy Love) romance novel.
It is apparently about a genius young detective, Zhang Ping, who gets into everything including a case under Lan Jue, who is the Minister of Rights.
With Zhang Ping’s deductive reasoning, he solved Lan Jue’s case and saved his life as well, thus they forged a lifelong bromance.
Weilong & Boran are at the pinnacle of utter gorgeousness, this alone is worth watching this drama. Can’t wait.
30 January 2023: The broadcast of this drama today took everybody by surprise. It just dropped without any fanfares.
Episode 1
Wow!
It suddenly occurred to me why I was desperate for Jing Boran to work with Zhao Lusi in Shen Yin, Jing Boran has such a sexy voice, it is as smooth as honey. Anyway, I digress.
Jing Boran with Song Wei Long is double the x-factor so this drama is a treat. A TREAT!
Let’s go.
Jing Boran plays Lan Jue, the Deputy Minister of Rites. He was in a mission to get a coin which hid a missive that tells who was behind a plot to kill him.
The coin is with a merchant who was a racketeer as a messenger. Lan Jue’s plan was almost full-proof of securing the coin from the hood but then Zhang Ping a lowly scholar, part-timing as a street-food chef, got drawn into the plot. Lan Jue did not take into consideration that the lowly Zhang Ping has logical thinking and keen observation skill.
So the carefully planned scheme Lan Jue devised came to naught as Zhang Ping told Hong Luo, the merchant, how and where the coin was taken and ended up.
Lan Jue was impressed with Zhang Ping and offered him sponsorship when he found out that Zhang Pin was a poor scholar who was about to take the expensive Imperial Examination.
He turned him down. Zhang Ping became obsessed with the one who tried to steal the bead from Hong Lou. He then suspected that Lan Jue was the culprit. He found evidence but Lan Jue just ignored him.
Zhang Ping, however, refused to be ignored.
Episode 2
It was Lan Jue’s birthday. He invited nobles and high officials to his party while the less fortunate has to buy tickets to go to the entertainment/brothel house where the party was held.
Zhang Ping and his friend managed to get tickets. They were watching some dancing when the main dancer, Xie Hou, who was suspended from the ceiling caught fire.
Everything went chaotic.
Suddenly, Lan Jue’s nemesis turned up. He was Guo Yin, who Lan Jue suspects to be behind the plot of getting him disgraced and eventually killing him.
But then the Empress Dowager, who was the real power behind the throne, turned up to watch the dancing.
So a fact-finding/forensic team which included Zhang Ping was formed to find out the truth. Zhang Ping was hindered at every step but then he was so determined he managed to do his own thing.
The main suspect was another dancer, Han Yan, who was a lover of Guo Yin.
Wow, second episode and there are so much goings-on already. Keep it up.
Episode 3
Wow, what a convoluted plot!!!
The Empress Dowager summoned Lan Jue as Zhang Ping reported that Han Yan had something to do with the murder.
Han Yan blamed Lan Jue and confessed that she has the bead hidden under her bed. When the bead was brought in, it contained a note apparently written by Lan Jue to someone plotting to overthrow the throne.
It turned out that Lan Jue’s family had a history of treason as his father and other relatives were punished for it.
The Empress Dowager was annoyed with Lan Jue because the royal family had been kind to him.
Lan Jue begged to see the letter. The Empress Dowager allowed him to read it. Lan Jue immediately declared that it was a fake and that he had nothing to do with it. The phrasing of the sentences is different from his work and the person who wrote it was left-handed.
When he was asked who could have done it, he said Guo Jin as he is the person to benefit if lan Jue becomes a pariah. Guo Jin was the other officer vying for the position of Minister of Rites when the elderly minister retires
Guo Jin was called and he denied knowing anything about it. But Lan Jue used his ace card. He baited Guo Jin that who was illicit relationship with Han Yan that he does not even know her
This triggered Han Yan into confessing that Guo Jin was not an upright official. He was eaten with jealousy of Lan Jue. He did it.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ping was still feeling uneasy about the case so he went back to the dancehall to question the girls.
He saw Zhi Xia who had gone crazy. But then Zhang Ping turned out to be a one-man-band who is Jack of all trades. In no time, he was able to hypnotise Zhi Xia. From her, he found out who really kill Xia Hoa. It was another dancer, Miss Li
Episode 4
The dancer was Miss Li who was a daughter of a general of the Army for Southward Crusade which was wholly massacred through the connivance of Lan Jue’s father with the enemy, apparently.
Miss Li almost succeeded in her revenge by killing Lan Jue who she managed to kidnap but Zhang Ping turned up and protected Lan Jue.
Zhang Ping was badly injured. The doctor later said that there was nothing he could do and to just prepare for Zhang Ping’s funeral
His friend got very upset because he had only a few coins, not enough to buy a coffin.
Lan Jue ordered his guard to get the best coffin for Zhang Pingl
Episode 5
Lan Jue heard that Zhang Ping managed to find out that Miss Li was the culprit by having one of the dancers who went crazy to hypnotism using water.
Lan Jue asked Zhang Ping to hypnotise him too so he could remember something in the past.
Zhang Ping told him that he would also remember all the secrets that Lan Jue is hiding. Lan Jue changed his mind.
Episode 6
The next case was about a dancer who danced in trance to inspire a painter but then she stopped and turned into a statue quite dead.
Zhang Ping who was with Wang Mowen said that the dancer was poisoned.
They found the Immortal Nomadic Smoke as the killer rouge. LOL
But Zhang Ping still continued investigating which annoyed and made Lan Jue nervous as he was trying to protect Miss Gong.
It was too late, Zhang Ping found Miss Gong.
Episode 7
Miss Gong is the daughter of the Minister of Rites. She wanted to be a dancer but Chu Qie’er, the dead statue dancer bullied her and even got her raped. Chu Qie’er then threatened to gossip about Miss Gong if she did not withdraw from the dance contest and support Chu Qie’er instead.
But she hated Chu Qier with such a passion, she prayed that Chu Qie’er dies. A mysterious hooded man heard her and said not to leave the death of Chu Qier to God; she has to do it herself.
She has to follow his instructions.
Zhang Ping convinced Miss Gong to surrender herself to authorities immediately. Miss Gong agreed as she was feeling guilty but then Lan Jue turned up and told Miss Gong that she had not done anything wrong. She was gravely bullied. He then told her that her grandpa was about to retire. He needs a quiet peaceful life
Zhang Ping was going berserk that Lan Jue is so corrupt and corrupting Miss Gong as well.
Minister Gong advised Lan Jue to let Miss Gong be punished for her misdeeds.
Episode 8
Before Miss Gong is arrested, she vanished. Mowen and Lan Jue were working with a very uneasy Zhang Ping to locate Miss Gong. Zhang Ping does not trust Lan Jue at all.
They found out that there is something mystical that is behind the disappearance of Miss Gong. It has something to do with the mythical Six Sages.
Lan Jue and Zhang Ping ended up in an underground cave where they saw the mysterious hooded man who was talking about them being in a canal of time.
Before he can elaborate, there was erosion. Lan Jue and Zhang Ping were almost buried. Lan Jue woke Zhang Ping to get to safety. They managed to climb up a dried up well helped by rescuers led by Mowen.
Episode 9
Lan Jue, Mowen, and the guards are in search of Zhang Ping who had been kidnapped by the city embalmer, who had also abducted Miss Gong.
The Embalmer was collecting people who could represent the 6 sages so he could perform the ritual of bringing back to life the two boys, Hu and Hu Na, who helped him escape from the quack doctor 20 years ago.
The embalmer was too powerful but Zhang Ping managed to get his water bowl from his manbag to use to hypnotise the embalmer.
Lan Jue arrived just in time before the wicked embalmer woke from his hypnotism. Knowing that he lost, the embalmer tantalised Lan Jue with the knowledge that he knew about the case of his father. But as time is of the essence to save Zhang Ping and Miss Gong, Lan Jue chose to save the two instead. The embalmer died from his own poison.
During the morning court, the Emperor refused to attend as he was redundant anyone as the Empress Dowager decides on everything.
Episode 10
Zhang Ping specially made Lan Jue some zongzi with salted egg stuffing but Lan Jue refused it because there were others around them giving him stuff as well.
But then when Lan Jue went to find Zhang Ping to ask for the zongzi, Zhang Ping’s friend had already eaten them all.
Zhang Ping is developing a lovely bromance with Lan Jue. He wanted to help Lan Jue find out about his father so he offered to have a confidential water therapy hypnotism with Lan Jue.
Lan Jue said that he does want to find out the woman who came to visit his father before he left but when he returned he was blamed for being a traitor.
Zhang Ping brought Lan Jue to the Realm of Truth and Purity to meditate.
Apparently, this is going to be a romance between a performer in the Peking Opera and the producer.
Episode 1
It is quite an entertaining drama but for westerners who are not used to Beijing Opera, this might take getting used to.
Yu Fei is an up-and-coming performer of Peking Opera. She had been studying opera since she was 12 years old and now her time had come for her to shine.
The master had said their performance that night would be attended by some of the aficionados of Peking Opera so everyone must do their best.
Everyone was excitedly going about their business including Yu Fei.
But this changed in a heartbeat when she found out that her mentor/uncle was getting married the next day.
She was heartbroken. She had been in love with Uncle for an eternity and he was the reason why she persevered in her training of opera.
She brought her heartbreak into the show, unmindful that she was creating quite a furore from the classists of Peking Opera. Despite Uncle whispering to her to behave, Yu Fei went on emoting her feelings of betrayal.
Someone from the audience saw what was going on and in order to save her from the growing outcry of the aficionados, he turned off the electricity and told her that he wanted her to work for him. He was Bai Fei Le.
Yu Fei got angry at him and screamed that he turned of the electricity.
Her master was shamed and punished her the next day using the old method of flogging.
Still, Yu Fei could not be stopped. She was still bemoaning the fact that she was hard-done-by and that she had been in love with Uncle and why was he marrying someone else:?
The master had had it with her for so he dismissed her.
Meanwhile, she did not tell her mother, who she had not seen for a long time, of what had happened.
Her menopausal mother was temperamental. Yu Fei got it from her how she behaves, living with how they felt regardless of consequences.
Anyway, to get away from her mother, she went drinking in a bar.
It so happens that Guan Jiu was also at the bar. As Yu Fei was getting drunk, she started singing opera which impressed Guan Jiu, she called her boss, Bai Fei Li.
Yu Fei drunkenly mistook Fei Li as Uncle and asked him to take her home.
Episode 2
She was in Fei Li’s bed the next morning when she woke and she could hear him in the shower. She was annoyed and thinking of beating him up for taking advantage of her but then she remember that she insisted that he took her home and then threw up on him.
Instead, she left money for him and then she ran off.
She went home and her mother slapped her. Her mother found out that due to her misbehaviour, she was fired from her job.
Yu Fei told her mother not to worry, she will continue to provide for her, buy everything she wanted including the cheongsams she was living on these days.
Anyway, her mother told shoved an envelope on her which showed a scan of her cervical cancer. She told Yu Fei that she was dying and all she wanted was to see Yu Fei become famous and get married.
Yu Fei told her mother to live for a very long time because her wishes would happen one day.
Fei Li tried everything to make Yu Fei work for him but she was not interested
Episode 3
Yu Fei continued to decline to join Fei Li’s company.
But then when Yu Fei came home she found her mother collapsed. Hospitalisation would cost 50K which she did not have.
She called Fei Li to tell him that she will join his company after all but she needed 50K upfront.
And Yu Fei started practising the play.
Episode 4
Yu Fei successfully played Lin Xiupeng (?) in South Song. Unfortunately, while she was on the stage, her mother had an attack.
Yu Fei was too late to see her mother which was not helped with circumstances like being harassed by another stage producer which injured her best friend, Dao Ge, who was bloodied.
Yu Fei saw Fei Li in his car but he was catatonic with fear when he saw the blood.
Yu Fei did not know that Fei Li had a blood phobia. She thought that he was just arrogant and selfish.
When she finally got to the hospital, it was to see that the doctor declared the time of death of her mother.
Poor Yu Fei was so heartbroken but it did not end there because she met the bitter legal wife of her father.
The wife hated Yu Fei’s mother so much because she said Yu Fei’s mother waited until Yu Fei’s father married the stepmother to reveal that she has a daughter. Thereby, ruining the stepmother’s happiness.
She said that this time she will continue her revenge by paying the hospital so Yu Fei can’t raised her head up.
Yu Fei dismissed her telling her that a man without a mother can’t be threatened anymore.
Fei Li got to the hospital but when he learned that Yu Fei’s mother died, he fainted. He came to not feeling his old self.
He then spent days, months looking for Yu Fei who seemed to have vanished on the face of the earth.
Not quite! Yu Fei had moved to Shanghai.
Episode 5
Fei Li finally located Yu Fei.
Yu Fei doesn’t want to have anything to do with him or return to Jiubai Studio.
Episode 6
Yu Fei found out about Fei Li’s trauma about blood. She ended up looking after him and went home the next morning but was seen by Fei Li’s grandparents who were excited that he has a girlfriend.
They told him to bring her back to meet them.
Episode 7
Yu Fei went to her biological father to give him the monthly payment for her mother’s hospitalisation. Her father did not want to take it but Yu Fei insisted.
Since her stepmother had left, Yu Fei cooked her father noodles as he had broken his arm.
He was just about to eat it when Fei Li’s grandparents came for consultation as Yu Fei’s father is a doctor.
Later on, they insisted the Yu Fei go back with them where Yu Fei met Fei Li who was on a flirty mode which only made the grandparents extremely happy.
Episode 8
This is such a cute episode.
Yao Chi is gorgeous and so is Chen Yusi.
They are not officially together.
Poor Dao Ge who had been Yu Fei’s number 1 for 18 years was upset when he saw Yu Fei and Fei Li kissing as if they can’t get enough of each other.
Yu Fei had also joined Jiubai Studio which upset Guan Jiu.
Episode 9
Ling Jiu was annoyed that Yu Fei was her double in the drama she was filming so she made Yu Fei have an accident that could have turned nasty.
Yu Fei who turned up warned Ling Jiu that is she does anything to harm Yu Fei again, he will send her to jail.
Episode 10
It was exam time for Yu Fei.
Meanwhile, Jiubai Studio had a good chance of landing an investor but it immediately went wrong when the songs in their program were leaked online and copyrighted by another.
Jiubai Studio is imploding. No one can trust anyone. Fei Li left money for those who wanted to leave.
Gun Jiu was very upset about anyone leaving because they all started together from scratch as Jiubai.
Episode 11
Yu Fei had her practical exam for a Beijing Opera course. She was surprised to see Uncle as one of the interviewers.
In the meantime, Fei Li and Gun Jiu were always busy with work and Yu Fei was jealous that Gun Jiu knew her way around in the house and even the hamster likes her.
Dao Ge was promoted to manager at the club.
Yu Fei wanted to fly a wishing lantern and it was Dao Ge who went with her.
Episode 12
Fei Li swallowed his pride and dignity and abhorrence of his father and stepmother for the sake of getting investment. He went to his father to ask him to invest.
His father had warned off other investors against putting in money in Fei Li’s little studio.
Episode 13
Fei Li felt rather romantic and took Yu Fei to a fancy western restaurant to celebrate their 100 days together. They had spaghetti with bacon.
Jiubai Studio had a performance battle with another studio. Fei Li helped Yu Fei to make everything but in the end his syndrome kicked in and he fainted.
Gun Jiu who was near him helped and looked after him as she was familiar with what ails him.
Yu Fei found them and she thougbt that they were intimate so left them alone.
Yu Fei went home to see her aunt.
Fei Li followed her to her aunt’s.
they were so sweet, their misunderstanding was sorted immediately.
Gu Xi Xi and Yin Sichen enter into a contract marriage for a mutually beneficial business transaction.
Episode 1
Gu Xixi is a budding fashion designer who has an online shop called XiXi and Mumu’s Magic Cabin. Amongst the services provided by her shop was fashion buying.
Yin Sichen is the president of a department store and wanted to do a cooperation with a rather elusive fashion designer, Alex.
He went online to get fashion buyers to get them to buy all of the Marry Me wedding dresses designed by Alex.
After some fruitless search, Yin Sichen found Xixi and Mumu’s Magic Cabin.
Episode 2
Xixi broke up with hr boyfriend Zengang who she thought at first that the was upset with the trending news of her being kissed by Yin Sichen. Instead, she found Zengang having a romantic lunch with another girl, who looked like they had been dating for a while.
Xixi met up with the man she almost run over with her hired Porche. He was Mo Xi Zin, a boy she was kind to when they were children.
He had been looking for her as he had always remember her when he was at his lowest ebb.
Episode 3
Poor Xixi and her mother had to put up with her father who was a no-hoper, who likes to invest in non-starter money-making schemes. To top that, his mother has delusions of grandeur and had invited other members of the family to celebrate her birthday in a five-star hotel.
It was left to Xixi to fork out for the expensive meal. But she went mental when she was also billed for missing silver cutleries and plates.
She told the maitre d’ to call the police to investigate this matter which frightened her aunt who brought out the missing items from her bag.
Lucky for her aunt, Mo Xi Zin turned up and advice the harrassed Xixi not to further humiliate her family.
Sichen got the contract to showcase Mr Alex’s Marry Me wedding dresses but after he had married Xixi who had become Mr Alex’s favourite.
Sichen told Xixi that they should get married. This was after he had humiliated her so she does not fall in love with him and leave him alone.
Episode 4
Xixi did not have any intention of marrying Sichen but then Sichen’s childhood sweetheart, XiWei, returned from abroad and immediately sought Xixi warning her to stay away from Sichen.
Xiwei insulted her so much saying that the likes of her were after some culture and riches from other people.
This made Xixi agree to marry Sichen, who would not take no for an answer anyway.
They signed a pre-nup where after three months of marriage they will divorce and he will give her a million yuan.
He was falling in love with her but still denying it.
On their wedding day, Xixi got drunk to get through the day and night.
Sichen stayed with her and she unconsciously pulled him to her as she fell asleep in the bed.
By the way, Sichen’s assistant is gorgeous. Love his curly hair. Whoa! Just realised that he was Chen Xun in Just An Encore and Way Back Into Love.
Episode 5
The newly married couple shared the same bedroom but not the same bed.
Sichen who is an amnesiac found himself falling asleep listening to Xixi reads.
Sichen’s grandma is so adorable and she had taken to Xixi. She encourages the couple to have a baby immediately.
Grandma unwittingly broke Xiwei’s heart by asking her to customise a bag. She had her design sent through Xiwei’s connection to artisan in France. When the bag had arrived Xiwei learnt that Grandma was going to give it to Xixi.
As much as Sichen’s grandma is kind and generous to Xixi, it was another story for her own family.
Her mother is as bad as her husband and mother-in-law. She makes her daughter be responsible for every money problem and lets her husband and mother-in-law live the life of Riley.
Xixi found out that her childhood friend was the president of Wenge, the rival of Sichen’s store.
Episode 6
In order to bail out her mother’s rent debts, Xixi pawned her customised handbag which was given to her by grandma.
Grandma asked her where her bag was which Xixi said was too precious to use during sunny weather.
Grandma said that bags should be used in all kinds of weather and get a new one when it breaks. She especially told Xixi to use it in a week’s time for Grandma’s birthday.
Xixi went to the bag shop but someone already bought her bag.
It was grandma’s birthday and Xiwei gave grandma Xixi’s bag which surprised grandma as the bag was supposed to be a one-off.
Xiwei knew that Xixi sold the bag.
Grandma ordered Xixi to get her bag.
A frightened Xix went to get her bag followed by an irate Sichen.
Xixi took a replica bag from her drawers and told Sichen she made a copy of the bag she sold.
Sichen was raging because Xixi is obsessed with money.
Anyway they showed the bag to grandma who got confused. Poor grandma, they would drive her to dementia.
Anyway, Sichen said that both handbags were real. The designer usually make a sample bag and then an ‘original’ one.
So Xixi was saved from further humiliation which annoyed Xiwei.
Later that night, Xixi wanted to explain what happened to Sichen but he refused to listened. But still she said that Sichen never had to experience without out money.
Actually, I don’t have any sympathy for Xixi or her mother. They are both willing victims of their family. The mother was actually loving being a victim which she was passing to her stupid daughter.
Anyway, Sichen had the bag issue investigated and Chen Fei Ang told him that the money received by Xixi from the sale of the bag was immediately transferred to her mother to pay a year-long rent arrears on her dry-cleaning business. How can the mother not pay the rent? Why would she willingly support her no-good of a husband and be downtrodden by her mother-in-law? Usually, mothers developed backbones when they had their child or children. But Xixi’s mother instead passed the responsibility for the family to her daughter. A hateful mother.🤣😜
Xixi is as dumb for allowing her father and grandma to get away with so many things.
Episode 7
Sichen bought the building where Xixi’d mother has her laundry/dry cleaning business. He made sure that Xixi knew about it so she feels indebted to him. She was grateful so she was flirting back as he tries to seduce her.
Xiwei however was doing her damnedest to create strife between the couple. She use Zhao Ze Gang by encouraging him to contact Xixi and then get money from Xixi.
Zegang did indeed contact Xixi to ask to meet in a restaurant where Xiwei asked Sichen to take her to lunch to talk business.
But actually, Xiwei was asking Sichen that if she had turned up for Mr Alex party, Sichen would have married her instead of Xixi.
Sichen said that it was Xixi was he was fated to marry.
Xiwei told him that she had been in love with him for 20 years.
Sichen was rather shocked but then immediately noticed Xixi as she joined her ex-boyfriend who told Xixi that he regretted breaking up with her and wanted to get back.
Xixi said that she was never going to do that because she won the lottery of love by marrying Girl’s Dream Man. He is sexy, he can’t get enough of her and he has his own boss.
Sichen who could hear what was being said was loving every second of it.
Xixi left and went to her best friend’s house where they cogitated what was really happening. Xixi was sure that Zegang had someone taking their photo and would blackmail her.
She was right. It did not take for Zegang to contact her and sending a copy of an intimate photo of them together him holding her hand on the table.
He arranged for them to meet up to take about the photo.
Xixi decided to go and her best friend said that she will be following in her car as a backup it something go wrong.
It did go wrong. Xixi told Zegang that he was free to send the photo to whoever he wanted to because she was not paying him 2Million.
