Wow, the leads have such sizzling chemistry, it is electric.
They have become a bonafide loveteam after the success of Eternal Love 1 & 2. It was so successful Eternal Love 3 is being filmed.
Anyway, this Chinese version of You Are My Destiny seemed to concentrate after Chen Jiaxin lost her baby with Wang Xiyi. She left him and went back to Hungary where they first met.
Seven years later, she is now an accomplished potter and a kickass girl, no longer the post-it girl. She met Wang Xi yi again who is now more mature and ready to start over…
Episode 1
This drama started just like the other versions, Chen Jiaxin was the office dogsbody. She worked as an administrative assistant; does all the menial jobs and hardly get any thanks for it. In fact, she was often taken for granted and looked down upon. She is Miss Post-it note girl, expected to do everything tasked to her meekly.
Meanwhile, Wang Xiyi is the CEO and only direct descendant for Cheng Jie Group. He is an only child and his grandmother’s single wish was for him to get married and provide her with lots of great-grandchildren to increase their tribe.
Wang Xiyi was actually not averse to getting married, in fact, he has already someone in mind.
It was Shi Anna, a very ambitious up and coming ballerina.
Grandma though was not so enthused about Anna.
I have to say that if you have seen the other versions, there is a very strong tendency for you to try to fast forward some of the bits here which are tedious like the workers from Huaniao Island protesting against job cuts, while their roles are given to robots. This drama scene has been seen before, it was boring then and even more boring now. LOL.
The leads though are charming.
Anyway, Jia Xin has a boyfriend who wanted to sleep with her but she was nervous about it as she can almost hear her mother telling her not to jump into bed with someone before the wedding ring is firmly attached to her finger.
But seeing her boyfriend grumbling, Jia Xin decided to grab the bull by its horn and told him there and then that she had gotten a new credit card and would like them to go on a cruise.
At that same cruise was Anna and Wang Xi Yi.
Anna was in between dancing schedules, she had just turned down playing Odile in Swan Lake because she wanted to be Odette (or was it the other way around? She wanted to be the Black Swan, Odile?)
As it was she concurred to go on a cruise with her lover boy.
Lover Boy, Wang Xiyi, had arranged with the captain of the liner to conduct a wedding between him and Anna. He was delirious with happiness and was practicing his proposal with a huge Tiffany diamond ring by the stairs, where Jia Xin was taking photos (her good for nothing lecher of a boyfriend had disappeared for now).
Anyway, Wang Xi Yi got destructed by a couple of unruly children which made him dropped the ring.
Jia Xin helped him hunt for the ring which ended in a swimming pool. She told Wang Xi Yi to hold on to her hand while she tries to reach the ring.
But he let go of her and she ended up in the pool but determined to get the ring at all cost. It almost cost her her life but Wang Xi Yi did jump immediately to rescue her.
Meanwhile why this was going on, Anna received a call from the Swan Lake people from France. They told her that after careful consideration, they decided that she would make a graceful Odette. She was desperate for the role, which would make her the first Chinese ballerina to dance as a principal in Paris Opera. She tried to contact Wang Xi Yi but he was unavailable as his mobile phone had been damaged in the pool.
As it was, Anna had to go as she needed to catch a plane for Paris to start practice immediately as per requirement.
Ergo, when Wang Xi Yi got back to their suite, Anna was not there. So he showered and changed into new clothes but his suitcase contained nighties and girlie stuff.
At an adjacent room, Jia Xin opened a suitcase with boxers in them.
Episode 2
Wang Xi Yi noticed that Jia Xin’s boyfriend was cheating on her. so he instigated a way that she finds out for herself.
Seeing that her confidence was at its lowest ebb, Wang Xi Yi arranged for her to have a makeover.
She was lovely in her minuscule red dress and had her ex-boyfriend punished for being such a rat with her.
Jia Xin was so grateful, she volunteered to help out Wang Xi Yi to avoid embarrassment as he forgot to cancel the wedding in front of cruising passengers.
They did their exchange of vows believing that it was a fake wedding.
Episode 3
They woke up screaming in shock at one another. Jia Xin and Wang Xi Y were in shock that they were in bed together and obviously had done the deed. It was a drunken romp.
This was only the start, they found to their shock that their fake wedding was actually legal and it had been filed in the Bahamas.
Episode 4
Wang Xi Yi convinced Jia Xin to go to the Bahamas with him to file their divorce.
Jia Xin was only too willing to divorce but found out that she was actually pregnant.
Episode 5
Wang Xi Yi was desperate to get a divorce as Anna had told him that she was ready to marry him.
Wang Xi and JIa Xin had secretly organise to fly to the Bahamas to get the divorce but their plan was thwarted by his grandmother who heard that Jia Xin, her granddaughter-in-law was pregnant.
Before long Jia Xin’s pregnancy spread like wildfire because of a video where she was throwing up in a durian specialist restaurant. A vlogger thought that Jia Xin can’t take the taste of durian or she had been poisoned.
It was total chaos and became more so when she got shoved and dropped her three used pregnancy testing sticks which all showed positive.
Jia Xin went back to her mother and family in Huaniao Island.
Wang Xi Yi , who was on his way to the island to inspect his factories followed Jia Xin and her family instead.
He was shocked when he heard that Jia Xin was pregnant.
When Jia Xin’s mother asked him what he was going to do about it.
All he can say was ‘I don’t know”
Episode 6
Jia Xin was really feeling guilty and responsible for making Wang Xi Yi and Anna’s relationship complicated so she decided that an abortion was the only answer to return everything back to normal.
Wang XiYi followed her to the clinic and when he heard the heartbeat of their baby, he was so moved that he stopped her intension to abort.
His grandma was the happiest she has been and held a wedding for the couple.
Episode 7
And the saddest was Jia Xin.
Wang Xi YI was tolerant of Jia Xin before their island wedding but now he had turned petulant and can be nasty.
He called Mr. Shen on the night of his island wedding with Jia Xin instructing Mr Shen to prepare a divorce document.
During their wedding night, Jia Xin assured Wang Yixi that all she wanted was to give birth to their baby, and then Wang Yixi will have full custody. She will then disappear from their lives never to be seen again. She does not want any money or any form of compensation.
Episode 8
Jia Xin moved into the Wang Mansion. She shares Wang Yixi’s room where there is a huge portrait painting of Anna in her tutu.
Wang Xiyi sleeps on the bed while Jia Xin has the little divan next to the bed.
She still kept her job at the law office but not as an administrative assistant anymore.
Wang YiXi secretly arranged for her to be Mr Shen’s special assistant.
Mr Shen tasked her to attend all the functions he could not go to himself like the opening of art exhibitions, musical, etc.
As this was her new job she usually meets Dylan in these arty gatherings.
Dylan is an art prospector, who has traveled the world for art as well as looking for his long lost sister.
Anyway, Dylan feels sympathy for the kind and gentle Jia Xian and was quite protective of her especially when he saw how Wang Yi Xi was rather dismissive of Jia Xin. He even saw a divorce document that Wang Yi Xi had already prepared for Jia Xin.
Wang Yi Xi showed the document to Jia Xin. The document listed what she was going to get after the divorce.
Jia Xin reiterated that all she wanted was to have the baby and give the baby to Wang Yi Xi to rear. She does not want any money.
She signed the papers.
But Grandma had secretly asked Mr Shen to draw another document. The content was yet to be revealed.
Shangren, Wang Yi Xi’s cousin was put in charge of Huanai Island. He signed with another company to co-produce shampoos, etc.
Wang Yi Xi used the body wash from the co-produced line which made JiaXin wretch, she could not bear to be near Wang Yi Xi.
Grandma had the body wash investigated and found out that it contained toxic synthetic.
She was so annoyed with her grandson and her daughter that she had an attack.
Jia Xin just came home and saw Grandma falling in.
In the hospital, the Daugther blamed Jia Xin as the cause of Grandma’s attack.
Feeling that she had no one in the house to stand for her, Jia Xin decided to move back to her old apartment.
Episode 9
Wang Yi Xi plotted to have Jia Xin move back to the mansion.
He was annoyed when he learned that it was Dylan who was taking her to her prenatal exam. She never asked him to go with her.
So he went with her next ante-natal/Lamaze class but she was upset to find out that it was because he wanted her ob/GYN doctor to endorse their Heritage product.
She told Wang Yi Xi that she never asked him to be kind to her or treat her well but she finds it upsetting that he would use her and their little Ximi for his own business purpose.
Shangren was spreading rumours at Huanai Island that it was due to Jia Xin that Grandma fell into a coma.
Wang Yi Xi wanted to get the record straight, so he dragged Jia Xin with him to Huanai Island for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of their new product.
Episode 10
Wang Yi Xi and Jia Xin are becoming closer.
Wang Yi Xi was really serious in his fatherhood role. He started researching and studying the father’s role in the pregnancy.
When Jia Xin’s cousin who came to visit her started having contraction inside the elevator wth JIa Xian and Wang Yi Xi, Yi Xi was so good as he took advice from Dr Hao over the phone on how to calm the panicking cousin.
Dr Hao was actually impressed with Wang Yi Xi.
So he was easily persuaded by Jia Xin to support Wang Yi Xin during a shareholders/directors meeting where Shengren had been inciting the directors that Wang Yi Xi will bring the Cheng Jie Group into bankruptcy because he refuses to apologise and collaborate with Mr Zhao of Heifei Group.
In the end, Wang Yi Zi was vindicated because it came out that Heifei was getting bad publicity for their products from testers and buyers.
Episode 11
Wang Yi Zi fired Shangren for logging in from Huanai Island using their grandmother’s password because he saw Shangren later receiving an envelope from Mr Zhou. He thought his young cousin had sold company secrets.
In fact, what Shangren got was blackmail photos showing Wang Yizi dating another woman prior to his marriage to Jia Xin. Shangren had to pay from his own pocket for the blackmail.
Thank goodness Jia Xin, who has been elevated as a special assistant to the Chairman (Grandma) of the Cheng Jie Group did not agree to fire Shangren.
Grandma told Wang Yi Zi that he was her favourite person but she will not hesitate to sign the new will, she had Mr Shen prepared, leaving everything and the company to Jia Xin if Wang Yi Zi hurts Jia Xin.
Episode 12
Anna called Wang Yi Zi and asked him to come to see her perform in Paris as he promised.
Jia Xin overheard it and promised Yi Zi that she will help him convinced Grandma to approve his Europe trip.
But Grandma was wily. Though she approved the trip, she made sure that Yi Zi does not get everything his own way.
Grandma invited Dylan to be Jia Xin’s mentor about Europe and also to assist and support her during medical check-ups.
Yi Zi noticed how Dylan and Jia Xin seemed so comfortable with each other and became jealous and told his Grandma that Jia Xin does not need Dylan.
Grandma retorted that would he be canceling his 15-day European trip?
In fact, he was hoping that Jia Xin would actually tell him that she needed him to stay with her.
Episode 13
Si qi and An Son are getting closer. She asked him to pretend as her boyfriend during a school reunion as her ex-boyfriend had goaded her that she was finding it hard to get someone to marry her.
An Son came to the rescue and gave her a very passionate kiss which convinced everyone that they don’t have a fake relationship but a very ardent love affair.
It was time for Wang Yi Zi to go to Paris.
Jia Xin was helping him packed his clothes when she felt a little faint.
Anyway, he was at the airport when he called An Son to check on Jia Xin.
An Son had to confess that he was currently in the hospital as Jia Xin had been taken ill. She fainted at the office.
Jia Xin was suddenly in two minds about whether to go to Paris or stay.
Jia Xin woke in the hospital surrounded by Grandma, Auntie, Anson and Dy Lan. Suddenly she became excited and wanted to check out of the hospital because she needed to attend an ante-natal group because they will be bathing babies and she would like to find out how to.
Despite Grandma’s concern, she finally allowed her to go as Dy Lan promised to go with Jia Xin and will look after her well.
And he was looking after her when Wang Yi Zi suddenly appeared. He told Dy Lan to go as he was taking over.
Anna texted while he was bathing the baby.
Jia Xin was concerned that she created further problems between the two.
Wang Yi Zi assured her that for a year, he will do everything for Jia Xin, treat her well as the mother of his child. He stressed though that it was just for a year.
Episode 14
Grandma noticed that Wang Yi Zi was taking Jia Xin for granted so she taught Jia Xin some tricks to make Wang Yi Zi take notice of her.
That was to turn the table around, ignore him back which seemed to have done the business because suddenly he wanted to be with her.
He went with her shipping and spoiled her, They were having a good time until they met a friend of Anna.
Jia Xin pretended that she was Wang Yi Zi assistant. She took the bags from Wang Zi Yi and informed them that she was going back to the office.
Wang Zi Yi was rather concerned about JIa Xin. He knew that she was going to be upset in some corner somewhere.
And that somewhere was at the closed ticketing office to Huanai Island, where Dylan found her.
She confessed to him that she felt like a thief towards Anna. What she has now should all be Annas.
Speaking of Anna, her friend immediately called her to report her encounter with Wang Yi Zi in front of a baby shop with a happy girl which was making him smile.
Anna’s radar suddenly twanged.
Episode 15
Jia Xin’s mother paid an impromptu visit at Wang Zi Yi’s house. It so happens that Jia Xin went to Huanai Island to see her and help her cousin care for her new baby.
Anyway, while Jia Xin’s mother was there at the mansion, Auntie entertained her and showed her the huge room that Jia Xin and Zi Yi occupy.
The first thing the mother noticed was the huge painting of a ballerina which Auntie said was girlfriend or ex-girlfriend of Zi Yi.
Anyway, Auntie left the mother in the room. Mother saw the various photo frames of Zi Yi and Anna and none of Jia Xin and Zi YI.
Mother could not take it anymore, she defaced Anna’s painting and threw all the photo frames on the floor.
She then texted Zi YI.
Liu Lin is such a good actress. Her performance as the mother was very affecting. You can feel her rage for her daughter.
Episode 16
Jia Xin’s mother was really upset about her daughter’s state of relationships with Zi Yi but she said her daughter is not an adult and she can make her all decisions.
Zi Yi asked Anna if she wanted to have a child soon. Anna said in the future yes but at the moment, if they get married she wanted just the two of them for a while. She was not really to be a mother yet.
Anyway, the mother’s text got to Zi Yi and he went immediately to the island to see Jia Xin. They have a good bonding time with cousin’s baby.
I like that the Aunt and Zhangren were quite nice people in this version.
anyway, Dylan was hosting an auction and invited Jia Xin to it. Zi Yi said that he would take Jia Xin.
Episode 17
It was the day to the charity auction.
Auntie gave Jia Xin selection of expensive items but rather memorable to Zi Yi to choose from but Jia Xin declined as it was too important to Zi Yi.
Instead she opted to donate one of her pottery work which is a rather ugly wish bank (lol). Auntie was not sure about her choice but Grandma was all for it because it was very personal.
During the auction, the wish bank was introduced for the sum of 20,000. No one at first was willing to bid but Dylan bid and then Zi Yi competed against Dylan. In the end, it went for 850,000 Yen bought by Zi Yi.
After the auction, Zi Yi and Jia Xin had a heart to heart about their relationship.
Jia Xin warned Zi Yi not to treat her so well and give her mixed signals because it might be hard for her to walk away after she had her baby.
Episode 18
Jia Xin and Zi Yi have the same day for their birthday.
Zi Yi warned her that he might not be able to celebrate her birthday because Anna is on her way back.
Jia Xin understood. She wanted to give Zi Yi something meaningful for his birthday so he asked Dylan’s help to find a particular pen that Zi Yi like.
The pen was owned by a collector with a very collector’s item pricing.
Jia Xin was willing to pay the price but the dealer said that he needs a story that would move him to sell the pen.
Jia Xin told him her story but he thought it was too ordinary.
Jia Xin, despite being pregnant, would not give up. She stalked the poor man day and night. She climbed a few floors of stairs to get to the apartment of the dealer.
Because of her persistence, the dealer finally let her have the pen.
She gift-wrapped it and put in Zi Yi’s lunch bag.
When AnSon gave him the box, Zi Yi thought that it was just chopsticks and told Anson to get rid of it and the food that Jia Xin lovingly prepared for his birthday lunch.
Episode 19
Jia Xin was spending her birthday with Si Qi when Anson interrupted to return the pen back to Jia Xin.
Dylan joined the party and saw the pen. He dragged Jia Xin to the club where Zi Yi was supposed to celebrate his own birthday with Anna.
Jia Xin sent the rewrapped pen to Zi Yi’s table.
Zi Yi thought it was from Anna. A birthday surprise number by Anna was supposed to happen at the stage.
Jia Xin felt sorry for Zi Yi so she dawned on a chicken outfit and danced.
Zi Yi found out about Jia Xin inside the chicken outfit when he went to the dressing room. He also found out that the pen came from Jia Xin rather than Anna.
In the middle of this, Jia Xin got a call from her cousin informing her that her mother was unwell.
She rushed to her mother’s house accompanied by Zi Yi.
Her mother recovered enough to tell Jia Xin and cousin that she was hungry and wanted some food.
Left with just Zi Yi, the mother gave the full force of her annoyance and frustration towards Zi Yi and his treatment of Jia Xin.
Zi Yi assured her that he will do better.
And when he saw Jia Xin they had a heart to heart and told her to forget about the divorce because he intends to build a happy home with her and their little Ximi.
Episode 20
Zi Yi is proving to Jia Xin that he was serious in making their relationship works. He also assured his mother-in-law that he could be trusted to take care of Jia Xin.
And they are lovey-dovey and now share the bed and behaving like a real loving married couple. They even had that Ghost scene where they were making pottery for Grandma’s birthday which ended in a lot of flirtation. So cute.
However, he told her that Anna is coming back but he promised her that he will sort it out as quickly as possible.
Episode 21
Jia Xin was meeting Zi Yi with some cookies she baked in the offices when out on nowhere Anna flew into a surprised Zi Yi’s arms.
Both Jia Xin and Ziyi were rather dismayed.
Jia Xin understood that Zi Yi had to speak to Anna but she was still scared that he will abandon her and rather guilty for snatching Zi Yi from Anna, who was so kind to her when they first met at the cruise liner.
Zi Yi told everything to Anna. After a while Anna said that she understood that it was an accident.
This was quickly denied by Zi Yi that it was not an accident.
Anyway Anna said that she did some research. Zi Yi can divorce Jia Xin after she had the baby. She and Zi Yi can then look after the baby and when the child is older they can tell him everything and given a choice of meeting Jia Xin.
She had it all planned but Zi YI was not agreeing with her plan. He said that after she up and left during the cruise, their relationship and change and he was with Jia Xin now and little XiMI.
Anna was not giving up without a fight. She told Zi Yi that she was not able to contact him from his birthday on because she had an accident during practice when she saw a photo of Zi Yi and Jia Xin all lovely dovey winning a contest.
She added that she has a concussion and hospitalised for days.
Even this emotional blackmail did not convince Xi Yi to unbreak their breakup. He told Anna that it was over.
He then went home to Jia Xin, who just came back from seeing Dylan who can her a gift from Master Longsham. The gift was a figurine of a Golden Couple.
Jia Xin, hard done by as always, found the Golden Couple broken in half. She took this as an omen of her and Zi YI.
In bed, Zi Yi promised her that she was now his life and the baby inside of her.
In the middle of the night, the phone rang. It was the hospital. Anna had been admitted for fainting.
Zi Yi of course had to go and Jia Xin gave him her blessing.
He later found out that Anna had conveniently suffered retrograde amnesia. She does not remember anything prior to four months ago. As far as she was concerned Zi Yi is her boyfriend and the break up the day before never happened.
Episode 22
Aww Xi Yi is so naughty. It looks like he was falling in love all over again with the more childlike Anna. He was at her beck and call at the hospital like a loving and devoted boyfriend.
He tried to tell her that they have broken up but he did not have the heart. Instead, he told her that he’ll come back to see her later.
I have to admit, Jia Xin deserves a good resounding slapping to wake her up from her stupidity.
The way she has been acting as if she actually wanted to lose her baby. She carried heavy shopping for Anna and climbed up high places to dust for Anna as she had become unwittingly Anna’s dietician/servant.
SiQi told her she was out of her mind and even An Son said so that she keeps giving in until everything is taken away from her.
Does she listen, NO.
She does not deserve pity at all.
Episode 23
Poor Anna. She finally remembered what happened when she followed Zi Yi meeting Jia Xin for yoga antenatal.
Jia Xin continues to endanger herself and her baby. She refused Zi Yi’s offer to get a real housekeeper for Anna.
Anna had now regained her memory unknown to Jia Xin, who was confronted by an almost deranged Anna, who called her a man-grabbing little hussy.
Anna told Jia Xin that she was nothing to Zi Yi. He loves Anna rather than someone so pathetic like Jia Xin..
Anna added that she was going to prove to Jia Xin that Zi Yi still loves her. She told her Jia Xin to go to the restaurant that night.
Jia Xin dragged Dylan with her and they saw Anna dancing as White Swan in front of Zi Yi.
Anna did look amazing as a ballerina.
The host then said that obviously a confession should fallow. Anna confessed to Zi Yi while he said that he now has Jia xin and the baby in his life.
Anna remained cheerful and gave Zi Yi a kiss on his cheek and then gave him a goodbye hug.
From where Jia Xin was standing it looks like Anna and Zi Yi had made up and she started crying and Dylan took pity on her and took her away.
Anna and Xi Yi went for a farewell dinner.
Episode 24
This is the climax of the story.
I was beginning to get annoyed with Jia Xin but still, she made me cry when she had to have a forced abortion, poor Ximi, to save her life.
Poor Zi Yi was forced to choose whether to abort to save Jia Xin or not to abort and lose both the mother and baby.
With breaking heart he ignored the distraught plea of Jia Xin not to abort her baby.
This episode started with the conniving Anna replacing the amended divorce papers with a fake one which she passed to Jia Xin during the birthday party of Grandma.
Jia Xin got so emotional because the divorce paper was contrary to what Zi Yi had been telling her. Now she had to give birth and hand over her baby, never seeing it again afterwards.
Grandma found Anna with Zi Yi in the lounge room. Jia Xin’s mother also was there with the other relatives.
They wanted to know where Jia Xin was.
Jia Xin’s cousin-in-law found the ripped divorced paper and then all hell broke loose.
Zi Yi said he was going to look for Jia Xin but Anna held on to him. He nudged her away from him and ran off. He did not see how Anna hurt her hips on the marble corner table.
Anyway, he did find a hysterical Jia Xin running around in high-heels in the steer and she was beyond listening to hm.
To get away she crossed the road straight into a moving car. She fell on the ground right in front of a very traumatised Zi YI.
He was at this point hysterical as well, He picked her up and carried her all the way to a hospital where he was told that there is no chance that Ximi could survive and without aborting the baby, the mother’s life will be put at risk.
Poor Zi Yi heard every scream of Jia Xin as they try to put her to sleep to abort.
Jia Xin was inconsolable with grief when she found out that Xi Mi was gone. She said it was her fault. And too right too. She had a mobile phone she could have told Grandma, her mother, Si Qi and even Zi Yi himself of how naughty he was about the divorce. But she was a drama queen. LOL. And it would go against the framework of Fated to Love you. LOL.
Episode 25
Poor gorgeous Zi Yi was grieving for Xi Mi and at a loss of how to make it up to Jia Xin.
He was advised by Grandma to give Jia Xin time to calm down and come to terms to what had happened. Instead, he should focus on their business which was not doing very well at the moment.
This was Zi Yi did in between sending Jia Xin countless messages and texts until she unfriended him in WeChat.
Jia Xin met Anna in the hospital. They both looked like battered soldiers.
Anna commiserated with Jia Xin on the loss of Xi MI. She said she knows how she feels because she can never have a baby herself.
Anna mentioned that Zi Yi pushed her a little too hard which caused her to hurt her hips and pelvis on a table.
Episode 26
When Zi Yi finally went to see Jia Xin, he was a little bit too late as Jia Xin had packed up and going with Dylan to Hungary.
Zi Yi did manage to knock on the car window next to Jia Xin but she turned away from him and his pleading of her promise that she will never leave him.
But Jia Xin did leave and Zi Yi was left slumped on the ground crying his eyes out. Jia Xin’s mother came to him and gave him the signed divorce papers from Jia Xin.
As soon as Anna heard that Jia Xin was not coming, she did not waste any time in trying to ingratiate herself to Grandma and Auntie.
Auntie turned her away because there is only ever going to be one Mrs. Wang in the family and that was Jia Xin. Grandma is more diplomatic. She told Anna that her business is with Zi Yi.
Jia Xin began her independent life in Hungary. She got herself her own job as a florist despite Dylan offering her to work for him in his gallery.
Anna used emotional blackmail on Zi Yi to make him start over with her. But Zi Yi was adamant. He said that he only loves Jia Xin now. It was over with Anna.
Jia Xin was in the gallery. She was captivated with three paintings by Master Longsheng (?). She did not know that Master Longsheng was the old man talking to her about the painting who asked her to give a name to the still-untitled trilogy of pictures. She gave the name ‘The Only One.’
Episode 27
Master Longsheng was very impressed with the girl he met in the gallery and told Dylan about it.
Dylan was invited by Master Longsheng to partake some tea with him. Dylan brought Jia Xin with him.
Master Longsheng was surprised that the girl he was talking about with Dylan was Jia Xin.
Master Longsheng offered to make her his last disciple but she had to be prepared to suffer for art and work really hard and steadfastly.
Jia Xin was only too happy to learn and was so proud to be his disciple.
Zi Yi continued to badger his mother-in-law for Jia Xin’s whereabouts. And yet he also continues to have an ambiguous relationship with Anna.
He started his own diary for XiMi and yet he was still with Anna.
Zi Yi comes across as being more in love with Jia Xin than Jia Xin with him but then again there is still Anna.
After three years…
Jia Xin is more confident and free and it shows in her one work of art, which Dylan had on exhibit in his gallery. It was a horse figurine with a snail on its back. She called it Ximi, a memento, a souvenir of what she has gone through over the last three years in Hungary and also the time before that.
Jia Xin as an artist is now called Elaine.
Finally Zi Yi signed the divorce paper and gave it to his former mother in law.
It was a Mid-Autumn Festival family dinner. Zi Yi invited Anna for the meal without informing his family beforehand.
Though they were not too rude, they were far from welcoming to Anna either. First Auntie excused herself as she was not hungry, then Zhangren said he was going to send some emails and then Grandma said she was going to get some fruit.
It was a very humiliating event and yet Anna was still holding on.
Episode 28
And Anna held on.
Zhangren was supposed to go to Hungary to finalise a business deal but die to Covid 19 restrictions, he was not allowed to board a plane due to his high temperature.
In the end, Zi Yi went instead.
While in Hungary, he went shopping for pressies, one is for Anna for the opening of her dance studio. He was given the recommendation to go to M Art Gallery, which he did not know was owned by Dylan.
He got a beautiful swan figurine for Anna but he was captivated with a rather ugly (LOL) figurine of a horse with a snail on its back but really sold the piece to him was the blurb/description that went with it. It was about regrets and letting go.
At first, Ryann, the gallery assistant, would not sell the horse to him because the necessary certification had not been produced.
Zi Yi said that he does not care because he just wanted the piece and won’t be reselling it.
Anyway, Ryann consulted Elaine over the phone and Elaine even spoke to Zi Yi (she did not know it was him) in stilted English.
Elaine said that she will personally deliver the certificate to his hotel. Just leave his hotel and room number to Ryann.
As promised Elaine turned up but Zi Yi cannot be contacted as he had a last-minute meeting with clients.
Dylan called Elaine and invited her to celebrate her first art sale.
Elaine agreed and left the certificate at the hotel front desk.
Zi Yi was going to catch a fight back to Shanghai. But as he looked at the certificate left to him at the front desk, he saw the name Elaine and underneath it was Che Jia Xin.
He raised back to the gallery and asked Ryann where Elaine was. He was told that Elaine was having dinner at a club with her boss, Dylan.
Zi Yi went o the club and saw that Elaine had been proposed to by Dylan in a masquerade ball.
Dylan got called and Zi Yi took the opportunity to get to Elaine. She was so surprised he did not get much of a chance to talk to her.
She thought he was a pervert. He noticed how much more independent she was and sophisticated, an antithesis of the old Jia Xin.
He can’t just let go of her so he again contacted Ryann to say that he wanted to meet Elaine in front of St Matthias Church.
While he was waiting for Elaine, he received a call from Anna, who said that she misses him and once again reminded him that he promised that he will never leave her.
Yes, Jia Xin had changed but Zi Yi had not. He is still the same man who was dithering between Anna and Jia Xin.
He did make a choice in the end, he felt sorry and guilty about Anna that at the last minute, he decided not to meet Elaine after all.
Instead, he left a borage herb for her at the florist. He said that he had an important appointment and he had to go but he will always support her and her work. He called himself W (Z in the Taiwanese Version)
Elaine was intrigued but as she climbed a viewing area, she noticed a man before her wearing the same jacket as the pervert the other night.
She confronted him and got the shock of her life because it was of course Zi YI.
She was so overwhelmed and lose a footing.
Episode 29
Master Longsheng went back to Shanghai to see Grandma Wang, his once upon a time sweetheart because he heard that she had not much long to live.
They got talking and grandma found out that Jia Xin had been under Master Longsheng’s tutelage for three years.
Grandma got so excited, she concocted with Master Longshen a way to get Jia Xin ad Zi Yi together.
Grandma called Zi Yi not to hurry back but instead work with an artist recommended by Master Longsheng to design a soap dish.
Zi Yi agreed and when he went to Master Longshen’s workshop the next day, he met a shocked Jia Xin.
Jia Xin ranted but Zi Yi told her that it was all for business and if she and Master Longshen studio could not design a soap dish then he will find someone else.
This calm Jia Xin down because she can’t let Master Longshen Studio down especially when she had been put in charge while the master was away.
Master Longshen and Grandma were talking their inspired of genius work of getting Jia Xin and Zi Yi together.
Grandma though had a bit of doubt if they did the right thing as it would bring back pain to the pair.
Master Longshen said that pain and mishap cannot be avoided and mishap is a treasure to an artist. Just like how he felt when he let Grandma Wang go all those years ago.
Their conversation was heard by a skulking Anna, who called Zi Yi to ask him if he was dating anyone in Hungary.
He denied dating anyone.
Episode 30
Jia Xin and Zi Yi’s collaboration for a design of a soap dish ended in them having a torrid kissing scene in his hotel room.
He said for her to leave because her being in his room was giving him ideas and our saucy Jia Xin said, she was not scared.
But Anna was on her way to Budapest to check on her man.

Episode 31
After the kiss, Zi Yi confessed to Jia Xin how much he regretted not protecting her and cherishing her three years ago.
I noticed that Liang Jie has the prettiest hands, fingers and nail shape. Rather hypnotic watching her hands touching the gorgeous Xing Zhaolin. LOL
Anyway, Jia Xin was moaning about how it been so hard for her to become Elaine, independent and self-confident and sometimes she still feels the old Jia Xin.
When she looked back at him, he had fainted or fallen asleep from her going on and on about how hard it was to metamorphose into a beautiful self-possessed woman.
She forgave him though from not paying attention, LOL (He did take a drowsy flu tablet). Looking at him she told him that still wanted to be his Chen Jia Xin.
But he got a text from limpet Anna, who said that she was downstairs because she misses him.
Jia Xin quickly got her things and realised that it was the same old story.
Anna actually saw Jia Xin leaving Zi Yi’s room but when she knocked and let in into Zi Yi’s room by him, she acted as everything was normal.
The next morning, Anna went to knock for Zi Yi again. This time Zi Yi told her that he was tired of pretending that their relationship was still viable.
Anna said that he was not allowed to finish the relationship, only she can and in her own good time. Then she told him that she was going to wait downstairs in the restaurant.
Zi Yi though got a note from Jia Xin telling him that he was such a con and she doesn’t want to have anything more to do with him. Never so see her, and not to contact her ever.
That was the only thing that Zi Yi needed, reverse psychology of not to contact because he ran in his lovely long legs to find Jia Xin.
He found her chopping woods in the backyard of the of Master Longsheng’s art building with Dylan. He went to hug Jia Xin and said he wanted to be a family with her and they should make a new Ximi.
Big mistake. Jia Xin ran off. Dylan told him that Jia Xin still has depressed mode when she thinks of Ximi.
Meanwhile, Anna explored Budapest. Two thieving Europeans took her purse.
As it was, it was a very small world because after the thieves took the cash, they threw the purse on the ground which was picked by Dylan.
He had a look at it and surprise surprise, Anna has a photo of herself when she was a girl with her adoptive mother. She looked like Dylan’s long lost sister.
I have to admit I find the W storyline stupid and unnecessary. Why would you have time to talk to a stranger online?
Episode 32
Dylan returned Anna’s purse to her and they got talking about her family background. She firmly believed that she was an unwanted child and was abandoned.
Dylan was upset that she did not remember the circumstances why she got separated from her family.
Meanwhile, Zi Yi was stalking Jia Xin as his boring W persona.
Grandma and Master Longsheng was trying to throw Zi Yi and Jia Xin together but it was going all wrong.
Jia Xin does not want to return to Shanghai but instead, she said that advice from W has inspired her to travel the world instead.
Now Zi Yi has to have another plan and that was to get Anson to marry Si Qi and ask Jia Xin to be the maid of honour. Jia Xin then had to return to Shanghai.
Episode 33
Jia Xin is back in Shanghai;
Everyone was encouraging her to get back with Zi Yi but her ‘id’ was telling her not to be fooled again.
But she was so tempted and even asked W for his opinion. Poor W (Zi Yi) was so tired helping at Mother in Law’s noodle shop, had mistakenly advised ‘no’ when Jia Xin asked him is she should give Zi Yi another chance. W fell asleep before he could correct himself.
Episode 34
This episode is blood-boiling. Jia Xin does not deserve Zi Yi. She was treating him like dirt. And to a certain extent, she was still a post-it girl.
When Dylan told her that Anna was his long lost sister and he wanted to give her anything and everything she wanted including Xi Yi, Dylan asked Jia Xin to give way and let Anna have Zi Yi again.
Like a little sheep, Jia Xin agreed.
Seriously, what does Zi Yi see in her?!!! Move on Zi Yi there are prettier girls out there and more fecund. 🙂 🙁 🙂
Seriously not loving this version. To make the drama longer, the script was going round and round and round and all for nothing.
I am so looking forward to the ending.
Episode 35
Tedious, tedious Tedious.
The penultimate episode and they are still going on and on and on about the bleeding Mr W. 🙁
Seriously, no one deserves love in this drama. LOL
Their pseudo-self-sacrificing is actually selfish and self-indulgent.
Zi Yi finally decided to show himself to Jia Xin as Mr W. He told her to meet up by the fountain. He will be carrying borage, which meant courage. It seems this borage is bogus because it did not work. LOL
Zi Yi had a wobble, he turned wimpy. He asked Dylan to come over and be Mr. W instead. What?!!!!!!
Seriously?!!!
I did have a bit of a cry when Zi Yi thought he was finally letting go of Jia Xin. He hugged her for the one last time and told her that sweet little Ximi brought them both joy, so he should not be a cause to feel guilty and sad about.
Dylan realised that Zi Yi really loves Jia Xin deeply. And also he had an idea that his sister is rather mentally disturbed and had something to do with the real reason for the break of Jia Xin and Zi YI.
Episode 36 – Finale
Yes!!!!!
Si Qi and Anson got married not in a lavish affair they originally wanted. It was only them and Jia Xin and Zi Yi in the registry office.
Their simple wedding made Jia Xin realised that she still loves Zi Yi but she cannot pursue this love anymore.
She also realised that despite finally with Dylan, she was making him uncomfortable rather than happy. So she breaks up with him and told him that she was going to tour the world as she dreamed of doing.
Dylan had a lot on his mind. He was feeling the guilt of his sister. He knew now for certain that she changed the divorce paper of Zi Yi and Jia Xin.
Dylan is really the good guy.
was packing her things when Grandma called to ask her to visit. While at the mansion she went to see Ximi’s room and found the diary Zi Yi kept
I must say this scene where she was reading the diary made me cry so much.
However, it did not move her enough to change her mind about leaving the country and her husband.
Even when Zi Yi was running after her at the airport (I have to say that Xing Zhaolin looked perfectly handsome in his suit running in great strides. I am rather partial to running men … but not from the law, I must be firm on that. LOL).
Jia Xin just ignored him as someone inconsequential in her life. It took a text from Anna for her to finally forgive and listen to Zi Yi. What kind of love was that? If this is going to be a real marriage, I give it two years and they will be divorced. LOL
Anyway, they made up and they got remarried again.
Then they started from the beginning by going on their honeymoon in a cruise liner.
While doing a Titanic shot, Jia Xin asked Zi Yi when he first fell for her.
He said that it was when she jumped into the pool to fetch his ring. He thought then that they were fated!
Fei Mo is the CEO of Anning Culture, which is a film production company. He was with his investors who wanted to star a renowned Chinese actress who managed to conquer Hollywood.
She was Han Hui, who happened to be an ex-girlfriend of Fei MO.
While the proposal of casting Han Hui was being discussed, Ms Cheng turned up and said that it was out of the question that Han Hui will be starring in a film produced by Anning Culture.
The meeting was effectively over.
Fei Mo curiously asked his mother why she was willing to sacrifice a big investment so Han Hui was not cast?
Ms Cheng, who happened to be Fei Mo’s mother asked a question back at Fei Mo whether he wanted Han Hui to do a film for Anning Culture.
While the mother and son were in discussion, a girl in a strawberry outfit tripped at the feet of Fei Mo.
Ms Cheng immediately noticed the resemblance of the girl to a young Han Hui.
Ms Cheng later found out from the news that Han Hui was coming back to China. This gave her a rather nasty feeling that her son will be caught in Han Hui’s web once again. Since Fei Mo’s breakup with Han Hui, he had never dated.
Ms Cheng instructed her assistant that they had to do something.
First, they sent a super sexy assistant to work for Fei Mo, but he sent her away, then there was a girl who purposely walked in front of his car and pretended to be hurt. He told her that the Blackbox of his car records everything. During a supposed dinner date with his mother, another girl turned up. He told his mother to stop sending girls to him already.
Meanwhile, the strawberry girl, Nuan Nuan was with her longtime boyfriend, Jiang Fang, who told her not to work too hard and perhaps just give up Huangmei Opera Troupe which was draining her of money rather than making any.
But she disagreed because the opera troupe, which had been a family business of many generations, was the only thing left to her and her brother Kai by their dead parents.
Jiang Fang told her that he was employed by Yaohua.
Nuan was happy for him and told him that they should celebrate. She bought a lovely tie pin to give him.
Nuan was on her way to see Jiang Fang when she saw him being intimate with another woman, who happened to be the sister of the CEO of Yaohua.
Nuan was shocked but was unceremoniously dismissed by the other woman, Jiang Li Reng. She told Nuan that she was a hindrance to Jiang Fang’s future. And if she cared at all for Jiang Fang, then she should leave him alone.
Jiang Fang remained quiet throughout this humiliating episode.
Nuan left and went to drown her sorrows at Sea Feast restaurant, room 5203. She drank herself silly and was out of her mind when a guy, Fei Mo, mistakenly entered the room.
Thinking that it was Jiang Fang, Nuan went for him and kissed him.
Fei Mo was enchanted and kissed her back. Apparently he had developed an allergy for kissing. But he realised that he was taking advantage of an anonymous drunk girl so agreed to be taken away by Gu Yun Zhou who went looking for Fei Mo.
While they were leaving the restaurant, Fei Mo kept thinking of the girl and went back for her but she was gone. Only the tiepin was left.
Poor Nuan was woken up the next morning by a call from her brother saying that the landlords for their opera troupe will throw them out unless they pay Y1,000,000 for the back rent. Nuan told her brother to tell the landlord that she will get the money together.
Nuan took every bit parts she could get, some were degrading some were violent, leaving her with a bruised face.
Her luck improved when Ms Cheng’s assistant came to see her to hire her to play a role, as a nurse to Fei Mo.
What she did not know was that Fei Mo was looking for her. He released a billboard looking for the girl in room 5203.
Episode 2
Nuan was thrown out of the house by Fei Mo but she was desperate to stay because of the promise fee and bonus from Ms Cheng if she can last at least 15 days with Fei Mo.
Nuan tried everything, she even pushed her way in but Fei Mo just doesn’t want her to stay.
Nuan was left standing in the rain outside Fei Mo’s house.
Fei Mo did feel a little guilty when he saw the rain was getting heavier.
It so happens that Jiang Fang and Ling Ren were flat-hunting nearby.
While Jiang Fang was getting the car, he almost run over Nuan.
He went immediately to help her and hugged her, giving his jacket to her.
He then said that he was with Ling Ren for his and Nuan’s future. he wanted to get ahead for them both because he was fed up of not being able to progress despite working very hard.
He asked her to give him some time because she was the one he loves.
Nuan sort of understood what he was saying because they were childhood sweetheart and knew what he had to put up with.
The then Ling Ren called and she suddenly realised the real situation so she told Jiang Fang to go.
Fei Mo saw the confrontation between Nuan and Jiang Fang on his CCTV.
He saw how distraught Nuan was when Jiang Fang drove away to go back to Ling Ren. Fei Mo went out to get Nuan but she was gone.
The next morning, he found her asleep on his doorstep.
Episode 3
Fei Mo allowed her to stay until she was well but she reasoned with him that it would be wise to let her stay because his mother would just hire someone else when she was gone.
Fei Mo asked her to cook for him and gave her a huge menu to cook. She bought the food from a restaurant with her own money and he was not happy that it did not taste like a home cook.
Her friend, Jia Yi was going to do a drama as an extra, a maid, but she was running late.
Jia Yi asked Nuan if she could do it.
Nuan was ok with it but when she got there, she found that the lead actress of the drama was Jiang Ling Ren.
Jiang Ling Ren used all her influence as the sister of the CEO of Yaohua to abuse Nuan. She slapped Nuan take after takes until Nuan’s face was really bruised.
Gu Yun Zhou, who looks like a younger version of Hu Yi Tian, saw what was happening and informed Fei Mo about it.
At first Fei Mo was not interested but he saw what was really happening on the facetime.
He told Yun Zhou to tell the director to stop it already. Fei Mo then called Mr Wang (whoever he was?) to recast the role for the lead to another actress or he will withdraw his investment.
Ling Ren still tried to bully Nuan after the filming but this time Nuan fought back saying that she had a good working ethos so she did not complain but after the drama filming that was altogether a different thing. She also told Ling Ren that she could have Jiang Fang all to herself because she was not interested in him anymore.
When she got back at Fei Mo’s house she was happy to find that he left a ice-bag for her bruised face.
She then made him seafood congee from the little ingredients Fei Mo had in the house.
She was still cooking when he found her. He grabbed the ladle of congee from her and tasted it. The taste seemed to have a nostalgic effect on him.
He asked her if then had met before and has she got a tattoo on her shoulder.
Episode 4
Yun Zhou came to see Fei Mo at home.
Nuan found them rather in an intimate pose so she thought they were in a gay relationship. Hilarious.
Anyway Jiang Fang hired Fei Mo’s assistant to be his spy.
Fei Mo loved watching Nuan cooking in his little kitchen. He would have kept her there just to watch her, well cooking.
She cooked too much for him but told her that they were yucky and send her to get more ingredients for other recipe.
While she was away, he ate all the food.
Episode 5
Later that night, Fei Mo fainted and Nuan had to call the doctor.
The doctor told her that Fei Mo was suffering from acute gastroenteritis for overeating. He has a rather weak stomach because he does not eat at regular times.
Nuan told the doctor that she does not know how he could have overeaten. She realised that he ate all the food she cooked because the bin was empty when she had a look at it.
She really looked after him and he secretly appreciated it.
His mother loved her.
Fei Mo gave the tie pin back to Nuan which she then gave to Jiang Fang when she accidentally met him. She said that she had bought it for him and now it was her goodbye gift for him and they have nothing to do with each other again.
Fei Mo was getting annoyed with Nuan as she forced him to take his medicine. Instead of taking it he dropped it on the floor.
Poor Nuan was forced to go out at 3:40 in the early hours of the morning to look for more medicine for Fei Mo.
Fei Mo noticed the heavy rain and went to get Nuan and a good thing too as she was being followed by a man. Fei Mo saved her.
Episode 6
The man following Nuan was hired by Ling Ren, who reported to her that she had nothing to worry about because Fei Mo and Nuan are in a real relationship.
Nuan had just heated up a can of coke (without the can, LOL) with some strips of ginger for Fei Mo’s dicky tummy. I might try that!
Jiang Fang who kept telling Nuan that it was her he loved but used her to get the script from Fei Mo’s desk. Jiang Fang sent Fei Mo’s assistant, Lin Zheng, to get the script by pretending to Nuan that Fei Mo sent him.
Episode 7
Nuan found out that the script was immediately registered and copyrighted by Jiang Fang. She was so annoyed for being betrayed by him once again but she was more annoyed by Fei Mo because he used her as bait as she called it.
Fei Mo already knew that Jiang Fang was going to steal the script and he set it up and made it easy for him to steal.
Anyway after Nuan got over her sulk, Fei Mo took her to an exclusive boutique to get her a gown for tonight’s gala.
She looked like a princess and to complete the look Fei Mo gave her a necklace which created a bit of a buzz because it was the Rose Tear, a Family Ye heirloom, which means Fei Mo is serious about Nuan.
Ms Cheng was happy and she said she expected it.
Finally, Ni Han Jin as Director Li Can finally surface.
Episode 8
Jia Yi was also at the party. Her horrid manager was trying to prostitute her so she could get backers in films.
Gu Yun Zhou saw her and fell in love with her all over again which was noticed by Li Can.
Li Can seemed to know everything about Jia YI. He told Gu Yun Zhou that Jia Yi had a sorry story.
She was once a promising young actress who started getting a name for herself. She fell in love with a rich man who did not want her to work. So she gave up acting and went to live with the rich guy who then married someone else, a rich girl, Poor Jia Yi had start all over again.
The party was the homecoming of a Chinese actress who did well in Hollywood.
Everyone was in awe of the actress including Xian Nuan but not Fei Mo. It seems Fei Mo had a history with the actress.
Nuan was almost accosted by a drunk executive but Fei Mo held him off and told him not to dare touch his fiancee. Everyone heard it including Han Hui, who was visibly bothered.
Jiang Fang introduced Han Hui to the public.
Fei Mo noticed immediately noticed that Jiang Fang was wearing the tie pin in his lapel. Fei Mo got so jealous, he hugged Nuan close.
Han Hui went to find Fei Mo. She told him she wanted to speak with him. She said that it was his mother who broke them up.
Fei Mo however said that he remembered differently. She cheated on him and then left him for Hollywood.
Han Hui said that she wanted them to get back together. She said to stop using her substitute because she did notice that Nuan looks like the old ‘her’.
Fei Mo said that they were over a long time ago and then left her.
Han Hui did not think it was over between them. She went to Director Li Can next to put forward a proposal that she be the leading lady for the Blue Sky project.
Li Can said that she let him down and the crew when she left for Hollywood all those years ago. He would not gamble on her. He said though that the first girl to jump into the pool will be his leading lady.
Jiang Ling Ren was also at the party. She was so jealous of Xian Nuan which made her pushed Nuan into the swimming pool.
Li Can helped her out of the pool and told her that she will be his leading lady in his film. Fei Mo turned up with a huge towel to wrap around her.
Episode 9
Fei Mo carried Xian Nuan to a changing room. He left her so she can change her wet gown but when he returned, he found her with Jiang Fang.
Fei Mo noticed the tie pin worn by Jiang Fang again. It was the Tie-in he found in room 5203 which he returned to Xiao Nuan.
Fei Mo got so jealous that he upset Xian Nuan. He told her that she was still in love with Jiang Fang despite treating her so badly as well as having a new girlfriend already.
Nuan was so offended she left Fei Mo at the party and went to pack her things and moved out.
Fei Mo followed her but was too late and he can’t contact her over the phone as she seemed to have blocked him.
He was so missing her and went to all the places he could think of that she would go to.
She went back to her old flat with Jia Yi, who was given a ride home by Gu Yun Zhou.
Nuan went to get her payment of 1Million from Ms Cheng’s assistant. She also returned the Rose tear to her to give back to Fei Mo.
The assistant asked her whether she was really sure returning the necklace because it was important to Fei Mo and would not give it to just anyone.
Nuan said that their relationship was a contract one.
Episode 10
Fei Mo had called a board meeting and revealed that there was a spy in their company. This spy gave a fake script to Yaohua. This shenanigan was well documented and evidence which resulted in a rather positive outcome for Anning as Fei Mo had come to an arrangement with Yaohua that Anning will be getting a huge remuneration from the production of Blue Sky Galaxy. Well something like that. LOL
Anyway, Fei Mo revealed who the spy was. He summarily dismissed Lin Zheng for what he had done.
He had a new Special Assistant called Maggie. He immediately told the pretty Maggie from the onset what he expects from an assistant, “Less talk, more action.”
Fei Mo was missing Nuan and her congee so much. So much so that he sent Maggie to get him congee from various eateries to find the one that tastes like Nuan’s congee most. Sadly he can’t find that same taste.
Meanwhile Gu Yun Zhou had really fallen for Jia Yi and had started stalking her or get closed to her. Having found out that she does not care for rich men, he had pretended that he was from a lowly background and substituting in getting as many part-time jobs as he can.
This time, he was a hairdresser and Jia Yi was the victim of his non-skilled hairdressing. This scene was so cute and funny.
Anyway, he got the result he wanted. Jia Yi had become his friend.
Han Hui had found out that Fei Mo and Nuan and broken up because Nuan had moved out of Fei Mo’s house.
Jia Yi had sent Nuan’s CV to Anning.
Fei Mo was so happy to have received the application from Nuan.
He immediately instructed the star managing director to prepare a top contract (exclusive contract) for Nuan.
Nuan though was not interested.
Episode 11
Fei Mo tried to convince Nuan to move in with him again as his nurse but she said the contract was over.
As she won’t move in, he moved into her apartment building where they are now neighbours.
He heard some happy talking at Nuan’s apartment and he went to investigate. He saw that she was having dinner with a man and he got so upset but Nuan told him to go away.
As a payback, he asked Gu Yin Zhou (who was actually the man in Nuan’s apartment invited by Jia Yi) to organise an impromptu party.
His guests were making such a riot that both Nuan and Jia Yi were forced to knock at Fei Mo’s door.
Episode 12
Kai was frogmarched by the rabid debt collectors at Nuan’s apartment. They said that Kai owed them 1M.
Poor Nuan said that she had already paid 1M but Kai told her that he had to borrow extra money without telling her so not to worry her for sundries for the opera theatre.
The leader of the debt collector told Nuan that perhaps she could pay in kind for what her brother owed him. But before he could touch Nuan, Fei Mo was kicking his ass.
Fei Mo gave him a cheque for the 1M.
Fei Mo used this debt to force Nuan to sign a S-Grade contract with Anning.
Everyone, including Jia Yi, congratulated her. She was so lucky to get a top contract as a novice to the business.
Fei Mo personally supervised Nuan’s training, which was unheard of for the boss of Anning.
He kept walking into where Nuan was training. Finally the star manager said something about him being there all the time followed by his long-suffering special assistant.
Cute episode.
Episode 13
Nuan’s manager took her to see a film being directed by Li Can. The lead actress was terrible so Director Li Can asked if someone could do the role.
The manager pushed Nuan towards the director.
Li Can recognised Nuan and asked her to sing the opera part of the film. She was picture perfect, he hired her to do be the lead actress.
Fei Mo was not happy at first because he thought Nuan might not be ready for such a major role and he got more unhappy when a kissing scene was added to the film.
They advised him that the kissing scene was integral to the film especially if they had to sell it to international audience. So he had to agree. Now another hindrance, he could not decide the most suitable actor to play the lead.
Episode 14
Ms Cheng suggested that since Fei Mo can’t decide the leading man then why not play the lead for the pilot film himself.
And he did but did not go all his way because when Nuan found out that he will be her kissing lead, she ate a lot of pickled garlic.
Fei Mo took ages and many takes to get himself to kiss stinky Nuan. But when she said that perhaps they just pretend to kiss. Before she could finish was she was saying he was kissing her passionately garlicky breath and all.
The short pilot film was a hit. It trended immediately when it was shown.
Episode 15
It was Nuan’s birthday and Fei Mo made his own birthday card for her and then gatecrashed her birthday party.
The budding romance between Jia Yi and Gu YUn Zhou might not go anywhere because Jia Yi actually knew that he was rich and she gave him a chance to tell her the truth but he opted to continue his lies. Jia Yi was disappointed.
Jiang Ling Ren had told to the lead actor for the Sky Blue Galaxy. She convinced him that the production does not think much of him so he resigned from the role immediately.
Episode 16
Anning was shocked by the actor’s audacity. However his actions had a deep repercussion to Anning’s stocks and shares and the future of the Blue Sky Galaxy.
Jiang Fang went to see Nuan sho said that she must resign from the role because she was not suitable for it and she will end up becoming a scapegoat.
Nuan, however, said that she will not resign but she will do her best, even better.
Jiang Fang went to see Fei Mo next who was going kick-boxing. He told Fei Mo to fire Nuan and get a more experienced and popular actress to play the lead to save Blue Sky Galaxy.
Fei Mo agreed but with one condition, Jiang Fang must fight him on the ring.
Jiang Fang got suited and booted.
Fei Mo won though.
But Jiang Fang was not finished, he said they should fight for Nuan. Winner takes all. Fei Mo gave him a right hook which floor Jiang Fang.
Fei Mo sniggered and said that Jiang Fang should not change his mind.
Episode 17
Poor Fei Mo wanted so much to be perfect for her role that she overdid her training. She ended up on the point of collapse and had to see a doctor.
Meanwhile, Jia Yi and Gu Yun Zhou had made up and officially in a relationship.
Episode 18 – 19
Ms Cheng had agreed to see Han Hui for dinner.
Han Hui got frustrated though when Nuan and Manager Xiaojing turned up as well.
Ms Cheng introduced Nuan as her daughter-in-law, especially chosen by Fei Mo himself.
Han Hui went out drinking and got seriously drunk. The barman called Fei Mo to collect Han Hui from the bar as she might get into a scandal being an international star.
Fei Mo really did not much of a choice so he went to the bar to get Han Hui. She drunkenly tried to kiss him which did not happen but through the angle taken by the paps, it looked like they were kissing with his arms supporting her.
He then brought her to his apartment where he slept in his locked bedroom.
The next morning, they did look rather intimated where Han Hui wore one of Fei Mo’s shirt which was noticed by Nuan with Xaojing.
Nuan had already seen the trending news about the kiss between Han Hui and Fei Mo. Many were surprised but easily forgiven them because Han Hui is an international star.
Fei Mo was upset that Nuan did not show any reaction to finding him with Han Hui.
Episode 20
Han Hui was making sure that Nuan really gets it that Fei Mo was hers, her lover.
She went to Anning to return the Fei Mo’s shirt while Fei Mo was with Nuan explaining that what happened to him and Han Hui was all circumstantial.
Nuan told him that it had nothing to do with her.
Han Hui found Nuan training. She went to speak with Nuan and told her that no matter what she does she will always be under her shadow whether with Fei Mo or with Anning. She said that Nuan was just not good enough.
Meanwhile, Fei Mo really wanted to make up with Nuan but she would not answer his call and he did not know where he could find her.
Who he found though was Gu Yun Zhou looking rather dejected because of Han Hui and Fei Mo cheating on Nuan.
Fei Mo and Gu Yun Zhou went to a restaurant. They unwittingly sat to the next booth where Nuan and Jia Yi were sitting.
Fei Mo asked Gu Yun Zhou how to make a girl likes you.
Gu Yun Zhou was very forthcoming with his advice and used Jia Yi as a specimen of how a woman would like a man. He said that he made her think that he likes the same things that she was interested in like photography and meteor, etc. He was still in the middle of his speech when Jia Yi went to stand next to their booth.
Gu Yun Zhou knew he was dead looking at a very upset Jia YI.
He chased after her and they had a very unpleasant conversation, both very upset where Gu Yun Zhou walked away from a crying Jia Yi.
Meanwhile Fei Mo asked Nuan why she was avoiding him. Their conversation ended with Fei Mo feeling happy as he watched Nuan walked away. He said to himself that Nuan does care about him.
Now, he was determined to win her over. He logged on anonymously online to ask advice about how to cheer an unhappy girlfriend.
Getting cuter and cuter.
Episode 21
Nuan asked Jia Yi to watch the meteor shower with her.
On that day, she was kidnapped by Fei Mo to watch the shower with him.
Jia Yi turned up at the meeting place where there was a lovely picnic waiting for her. She looked for Nuan but it was Gu Yun Zhou who turned up with a huge bunch of flowers and an apology which Jia Yi did not accept because she rightfully said she doesn’t really know him as his lies kept coming up one by one. She left a dejected Gu Yun Zhou.
Meanwhile, Nuan had a happy romantic time with Fei Mo. Fei Mo explained to her that there was absolutely nothing going on between him and Han Hui, whatever there was, it was over a long time ago.
Aboard a perspex boat decorated with colourful flowers, as they looked up the sky, Fei Mo asked Nuan if she was willing to be the galaxy to his sky?!!! awww 🙂
They had a wonderful romantic time.
It was the start of the filming of Blue Sky Galaxy where Nuan was the lead actress.
She and Fei Mo promised each other that they will send each other selfies every day.
She was so upset when he did not send her a photo when she did send him one.
She was not upset for long because instead of a selfie, he showed up to the set instead. Awww
Her happiness did not last long because Han Hui was determined to cause mischief. She showed up one day at the set behaving as if she was the boss lady.
Episode 22
Poor Nuan ended up in the hospital after Han Hui made the kleig lights fell on Nuan.
Finally, the lead actor for Blue Sky Galaxy had surfaced. He was Mo Xiao Bai, a big international star, who happened to be a cousin of Fei Mo and, of course, Nuan’s idol.
Ms Cheng had asked Xiao Bai to help her get Fei Mo and Nuan together because if it is left to Fei Mo, it would take a very long time. LOL
Han Hui went to the hospital to check on her handiwork of incapacitating Nuan. She saw Fei Mo in the hospital and did her acting as if she tried helping Nuan and also got bruised.
Fei Mo knew her too well and revealed that she was exaggerating a mere scratch for a monumental bruise.
Fei Mo visited a now compos mentis Nuan and they had a lovey dovey time when he tried to spoon feed her a hot soup. Instead on blowing into the soup before feeding it to her, he blew into her sore lips which send her tingling all over. Oh cute.
Episode 23
Xiao Bai was putting Fei Mo on the spot to confess to Nuan.
Fei Mo, however, can’t put it into words but showing it action.
He was always at Nuan’s side and spoiling her.
During a visit, he saw Jiang Fang in Nuan’s room and overheard them talking.
Jiang Fang confessed to Nuan that what he was doing was for them. He just wanted to make a shortcut to fame and riches so he did what he did but ultimately it was all for Nuan and his future together.
Nuan said that she does not want anything to do with it.
Going out of the room, Jiang Fang found Fei Mo.
He told Fei Mo not to mess with Nuan because she is just a simple girl.
Fei Mo said that it was Jiang fang who messed up Nuan.
Jiang Fang said that he grew up with Nuan, he knows everything about her including the flower that she likes. Looking at Fei Mo’s bunch of lilies, Jiang Fang said that Nuan prefers apricot roses.
Fei Mo knocked Jiang Fang’s roses off Nuan bed-side table and replaced it with the lilies.
This made Nuan smile. And from that moment on, Fei Mo started quizzing her everything about her likes and dislikes. For two whole days, he jotted down in his little notebook her hobbies, likes, and pet hates as he asked he asked her.
Meanwhile, Han Hui had been offered by Jiang Fang to film a version fo the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl which was similar to Blue Sky Galaxy.
Episode 24
Han Hui had a booting ceremony for Milky, another version fo the Cowherd and the Weaver.
This affected Nuan, who felt a bit daunted that she was delaying the filming of Blue Sky Galaxy with her prolonged confinement at the hospital so against her management and doctor’s order she checked herself out and resumed filming.
Thank goodness, nothing untoward happened.
It was a wrap. The last scene was a wedding scene that made both Nuan and Fei Mo happy as they stared at one another throughout the scene though she was marrying Mo Bai.
Fei Mo was becoming more sure that Nuan was the girl who saved him when he almost drowned. She told him that she use to work in a stage show near the seaside and she used to save countless tourists from drowning.
Episode 25
Director Li Can gave a wrap dinner party for the cast, crew and management for the Blue Sky Galaxy.
The party ended playing truth or dare.
Mo Xiabai was asked who was his girlfriend. He confessed that he did not have a current girlfriend but Nuan was his type.
Fei Mo was so annoyed and jealous. When it was his turn he was given a dare to call the girl he fancied on her WeChat. He called Nuan in front of everyone and they chanted for him to confess to her but at the last minute, he lost confidence. He told Nuan not to drink too much instead and of course, she did the opposite and Fei Mo ended up piggybacking her home and he did finally try to confess but it was no news as Nuan was blissfully asleep on his back.
The next day, Ms Cheng arranged a lunch date with Nuan, MoXiabai and Fei Mo.
Again, Xiaobai tried to steal Nuan from Fei Mo.
Fei Mo could not take it any longer and drag Nuan outside where he finally confessed to her that he loves her and then gave her a good proper snogging which was seen by both Ms Cheng, who was contentedly happy and XiaoBai.
Nuan pushed Fei Mo away and ran off but was secretly thrilled.
The next morning Fei Mo went to get Nuan so then can go to the office together but she was gone. He later found out that she might be away for a long time to do some adverts at Shaobi Mountain.
Episode 26
Nuan was backed from Shangbai where she had been promoting shampoo. This month-long project really tortured Fei Mo so when she got back, he made her pay for it by ignoring her completely.
Nuan did everything to win him back and told him that all their previous relationships were based on contracts. She went to do the shampoo commercial so she could earn money to pay her debts from him and then they could start as equal in their new relationship.
Fei Mo was still playing hard to get so Gu Yun Zhou warned him that if he continued on and really hurt Nuan, he might actually lose her.
Fei Mo said that the current Nuan was so supplicant and so cute. But he did realise that Gu Yun Zhou had a point.
Fei Mo called Nuan to meet up and have a talk during the weekend. They finally made up and were lovey-dovey.
Nuan begged him not to announced that they were in a relationship because she was still a newbie in the company.
He agreed after a fashion but he can’t keep away from her.
Episode 27
Nuan did not want Fei Mo to reveal that they were in a relationship and yet she got upset when girls started swarming around him because he looked more approachable and happy (being in loved and loved by Nuan).
The tension also was heating up because Blue Sky Galaxy was about to hit the cinema.
They had a private showing attended by the producers, director, crew, and actors and they agreed that they had a good movie to show.
Episode 28
Blue Sky Galaxy went head to head with Milky Way. The later prevailed. Han Hui had so many fans who flocked to watch Milky Way,
During the first week, Blue Sky did not only do badly in the box-office but the film received negative comments online.
Poor Nuan blamed herself for having been instrumental in incorporating Houngmei Opera into the film. The opera was just too old fashion for the new generation’s tastes.
Fei Mo did not agree though and took a video of Nuan baking and bursting into an operatic song which was adorably funny.
He then posted it only and suddenly everyone wanted to see more opera.
Episode 29
Jiang Ling Ren had someone posted online that Fei Mo and Nuan were in a relationship. Instead of breaking the relationship and making Blue Sky Galaxy lose more money, it had the opposite effect.
Jiang Ling Ren took her anger on Jiang Fang, who was beginning to lose patience with her.
Meanwhile, Ms Cheng had invited a wedding planner for Fei Mo and Nuan. But she was disappointed when she found out that FeiMo had not even asked Nuan to get married and then Nuan said she was not really ready to settle down.
After playing hard-to-get, Zhou Xiaojing finally accepted Director Li Can’s love confession.
Episode 30
Han Hui had commissioned a script called Twin Flowers and she wanted Nuan to be the other actress to play the role opposite to her.
Nuan was given the script by Jiang Fang. Nuan fell in love with the role and wanted to do it despite her manager and Fei Mo discouraging her from accepting it.
Poor Jiaji broke up with Gu Yun Zhou after Mrs. Gu told her that she was not good enough for her son, they belong to different worlds.
Episode 31
Fei Mo called Han Hui to ask what she was playing at offering the Twin Flowers role to Nuan.
Han Hui said that the role was tailor-made for Nuan who will play the role of a girl who was a substitute for the main lead because they look alike and would fight over the same man.
Nuan was so self-obsessed. What she wanted she’d go for it. She wanted the role of the Twin Flowers and was moaning at Jiayi that Fei Mo was not trusting her, blah, blah, blah.
Thankfully Jiayi was so gentle and mature and told Nuan that Fei Mo was actually protecting her.
Jiang Fang had an accident after another disagreement with Jiang Ling Ren. He fell on the stairs and crack his head.
Fei Mo finally allowed Nuan to do Twin Flowers but under one condition, she had to have bodyguards. and they were really looking after her that every time she so much as frown they were there beside her even in the middle of shooting a scene.
Even Director Li Can was getting fed up with the delays caused by the bodyguards.
Nuan practised her script with Fei Mo who got rather uncomfortable when Nuan was reciting her dialogue about the lead male getting together with her because she looked so much like the Lead Female.
Han Hui posted her photo when she was twenty and she looked like Nuan.
Now Nuan was upset that the script was true, it was really about the three of them.
Episode 32
It was a wrap but Nuan was wallowing from the fact that she was just a substitute to Han Hui in Fei Mo’s affection.
Seriously, Nuan was absolutely annoying, you just want to give her a good slapping to get her out of her stupidity. She read the script before the filming and yet she only got it now that it was really a story about the three of them: Fei Mo, Han Hui, and her.
I said dump her, Fei Mo. she is just a self-obsessed idiot just like her equally annoying no-hoper of a brother. LOL. Thank God, this happened near the ending because I would have dropped this drama if I knew fairly early on that she was so stuuupppiddd.
Poor Fei Mo ended up in the hospital after chasing after her in the taxi in the rain.
Wallowing in self-pity, Nuan found out from Jiayi that Fei Mo was in the hospital.
She rushed there and tried to rush out again when she found Han Hui watching Fei Mo eat the seafood porridge Han Hui brought with her.
The very ill Fei Mo still ran after the sulky Nuan but in the end he told her that it was over between them. He did not tell her what was really wrong with him. He’s got stomach cancer. And he was breaking up with Nuan so that she doesn’t get too upset when he’s gone. So he told her that it was true she was a substitute for Han Hui whom he had never gotten over with.
Nuan left crying.
Han Hui thought that she had finally got Fei Mo all to herself but she found him crying his heart’s out. He was really sobbing, She finally realised how much he was in love with Nuan. Nuan is not her substitute. Nuan was the real thing in Fei Mo’s heart.
Episode 33
Han Hui was not feeling good about herself. She finally realised that she had turned into a bit of a monster.
Jiang Fang encountered Fei Mo in the hospital. Jiang Fang was so furious with Fei Mo and was about to beat him up for dumping and hurting Nuan when he noticed that Fei Mo was really unwell.
Fei Mo told Jiang Fang that he was ill. He had stomach cancer and making Nuan hate him was the best way for Nuan to get over him quickly. He thought that it was better than watching him die.
Jiang Fang said that he and Fei Mo had done Nuan a disservice. They both made decisions for her and Jiang Fang realised that was wrong. It is Nuan’s life and she should be allowed to do her thinking for herself. 🙂 🙂 🙂
This made Fei Mo think and made me cry a little bit. Good scene.
Jiang Fang and Jiang Ling Ren broke up. There was really no way they could still be together as Ling Ren was completely deranged, although she was the one who told Jiang Fang that Fei Mo had dumped Nuan.
Ling Ren further said that Jiang Fang should seize the moment to be together with Nuan.
Gu Yun Zhou and Jia Yi made up. He asked to marry her and gave her a ring.
Episode 34
Jiang Fang found Nuan in their old village.
At first, Nuan refused to speak with him and locked the door in this face.
Her stupid brother arrived and was threatening to beat up Jiang Fang so Nuan was forced to come out and save the day.
Anyway, Nuan had a heart to heart with Jiang Fang, who said that he had left Yaohan in order to find his old self. He said that he made a mistake of flying to the top rather than climbing to the top bit by bit. He lost everything but he was determined to find his way again and in his good time.
Nuan said that she had forgiven him and she hopes he gets to where he wanted to be.
He was just leaving when he decided to tell her that Fei Mo has stomach cancer.
Nuan was shocked. She was so annoyed with herself for not seeing the signs why Fei Mo dumped her so cruelly. It was not like him.
She grabbed her bag and was about to go to Fei Mo.
But Fei Mo was already on his way to see her and they had a happy reunion in the seaside, mindless that they were both soaking their shoes in the water. Somehow this bothered me. LOL
They were sitting closely together and promised that no matter what, they will be together until the very bitter end. They are not going to waste any more days apart.
Out of nowhere, Nuan’s brother came puffing in with some news from the hospital.
He said that the hospital had been looking everywhere for Fei Mo because they wanted to apologise.
Apparently, the hospital had made a mistake.
Fei Mo did not have stomach cancer.
Episode 35
Ms Cheng had a confrontation with Han Hui. She warned the younger girl to stop any ideas regarding Fei Mo because Fei Mo is now with Nuan.
Han Hui said that it was Ms Cheng’s fault that she separated from Fei Mo.
Ms Cheng corrected her immediately. She told Han Hui that she did test her by sending a Hollywood director to her but it was completely up to Han Hui to choose love or ambition.
Han Hui packed her bags immediately with her ambition and went to Hollywood. So it was solely her doing.
Ms Cheng also reminded Han Hui that Fei Mo was really into her because she pretended to be the girl that saved Fei Mo’s life all those years ago.
So Han Hui was a substitute.
This really upset Han Hui and took it out on Nuan, who she saw during an award ceremony.
Nuan had been nominated for Best Actress for her role in Twin Flowers.
Nuan won and she thanked Fei Mo as the most important person to her.
And their love is again tested as Nuan’s popularity was soaring so was the demand for her services.
She was offered a role from a respected award-winning French film director.
Nuan was very tempted but hesitated when her manager, Xiaojing, told her that accepting the role would mean she had to live in France for at least a year.
Nuan thought that she can’t do that to Fei Mo after Han Hui did the same thing to him.
Fei Mo was in her flat when he found the contract from the French director.
He told Nuan to accept it as it would be a good career move. He said that he wanted to be the knight who leads her to the throne rather than her stumbling block. Anyway, twelve months will pass immediately, he said.
Episode 36 – Finale
Gorgeous Director Li Can was teasing Fei Mo about Nuan leaving for France for a year and Fei Mo poke fun back at him saying that Xiaojing was leaving with Nuan for a year.
This shocked Li Can so much he ran to Xiaojing and carried her out of her office to a jewelry store to put a huge beautiful diamond ring on her finger. He then said that he can’t let her go with out some sort of commitment because she might run off with someone. No way! Li Can was so yummy, you would want more and more of him. :)🤗
Lucky Xiaojing.
Jiang Fang had a bright ending as well, he got hired by Ms Zhou, the girl who was supposed to marry Gu You Zhou. Ms Zhou was about to start a company which she thought Jiang Fang with his resume will suit.
Meanwhile, Fei Mo sent Nuan and Xiaojing to the airport. He then found it so hard to go back to an empty house. He was missing Nuan so much and it was only the first day.
When he got to the house, it was dark and the lights would not work but he saw something shining in the back yard.
It was hundreds of candlelights lighting his path to the garden. In there was a huge surprise box. He smiled and then out of the box, jumped out Nuan.
Nuan said she can’t bear to leave him even for a day. She then got down on her knees to ask him to marry her with the diamond ring he commissioned but told to get rid of when he thought he was dying from cancer.
Nuan said that she had rehearsed what she was going to say but suddenly she can’t say them.
Fei Mo said it was because it was a man’s job to go asking to marry. (sexist but cute, so I forgive you). He also said that from now on everything he tells her should be adhered to. (what? but his explanation was passable, remembering that Nuan could be rather stupid at times. LOL)
The other two pairs, Gu You Zhou & Jia Yi and Li Can & Xiaojing, suddenly appeared at Fei Mo’s house wishing Fei Mo and Nuan all the best.
Fei Mo and Nuan were having a prenup photoshoot by the sea when the wind blew Fei Mo into the deep blue water.
Nuan jumped immediately to the rescue and helped the unconscious Fei Mo to the shore.
Nuan then performed the most ineffective mouth to mouth resuscitation which somehow brought back Fei Mo to life.
Fei Mo suddenly realised that Nuan was the elusive girl that he owed his life to years ago.

Episode 1
OMG this first episode is so cute and yet poignant. The child actors are all adorable, brilliant actors. I particularly like the one who plays the young Ziqui.
His looks and acting immediately knock you in the heart. His adoration of the young JianJian, who doesn’t like him at all as a potential stepbrother was really heartwarmingly sad.
Anyway, the story is that Ling Xiao’s family had just moved to Jian Jian’s neighbourhood.
The first time Jian Jian saw young Ling Xiao, she liked him and treated him as a friend despite the boy’s snubbing her every effort of friendliness.
Ling Xiao’s family became a topic of conversation in the neighbourhood because his mom and dad are screaming and shouting at each other every day. Their fights got so bitter that Ling Xiao would often go out of the apartment and sit down by the stairs reading his book. His father is a policeman and his mother cannot get over the death of their young daughter.
Jian Jian’s father who owns a restaurant tried to invite the sad little boy by the stairs but he declined. And the father said that if he needed anything he can knock at their door and can come round and play with Jian Jian.
Jian Jian’s father is a widower. One of the neighbours had arranged a blind date for him. The woman was quiet with an even quieter little son who was dying to get to know Jian Jian.
Jian Jian however was against having a stepmother and told her dad in a huff.
The woman came to visit at Jian Jian’s house.
At the park, Jian Jian found Ling Xiao being bullied by a tall tubby boy and some other children. Jian Jian came to the rescue and fought the other children. And then Ziqui ran in to fight with Jian Jian, who was biting the tubby boy.
Both Jian Jian and Ziqui were in trouble as the mother of the tubby boy went to complain to Jian Jian’s father, who said that her son was no angel and showed that he scratched Jian Jian’s face and gave Xiqui a black eye.
When the mother and her tubby son left, Jian Jian’s father apologised to Ziqui’s mother who was actually happy that her son fought alongside Jian Jian, who was giving Ziqui the evil look.
When Jian Jian’s father told her that she made Ziqui fight, Jian Jian said Ziqui did it himself and Ziqui quickly agreed that he did.
Then there was a knock on the door.
Episode 2
It was Ling Xiao who was knocking with a bottle of iodine to clean wounds for the two children.
Anyway, Jian Jian was a force of nature and in the end, she was able to cajole Ling Xiao to eat dinner with them, and then it became a daily routine which Ling Xiao started to look forward to especially when his parents daily fight was not abating.
One day Jian Jian and Ling Xiao were coming home from school when they met Chen Tin (Ling Xiao’s mother) leaving the flat with a suitcase.
Even at such a young age Jian Jian knew that Chen Tin was leaving so she asked Chen Tin if she could keep Ling Xiao as she wanted a brother.
Chen Tin said to keep him.
Meanwhile, Heimei, Ziqui’s mother, called Haichao (Jian Jian’s father) begging him to lend her cash, and could he also look after Ziqui.
Hiachao agreed and looked after Ziqui who initially suffered from Jian Jian’s jealousy. She bit him one day and despite the excruciating pain, he just let her. When Haichao tried to stop her she bit him too because she was annoyed that Ziqui had started calling Hiachao, ‘Dad’
She put Ziqui through a lot and would push his suitcase in a steep staircase. He would pull it up without complaint all the time that he had to do it.
But Jian Jian finally thawed at him because he just adored her.
Ling Xiao’s father became a regular at Jian Jian’s house as well. He told Hiachao the story about his dead daughter.
Chen Tin was asked by her friends to play mahjong so she left young Ling Xiao to look after his three-year-old sister who was very partial to walnuts. The girl choked on the nuts and Ling Xiao can’t get any help as they were locked in the house. His sister had stopped breathing when Chen Tin arrived.
Ten years later… 2009
Episode 3
Ten years later, it was the first day of high school for Jian JIan. She is as boisterous as ever and her two brothers indulged her.
Ling Haping and Hiachao bring up the three kids. The two men are like a bickering married couple and both contented to be single fathers.
Chen Tin had divorced Haping and had remarried and had her own child.
Meanwhile, Heimei had completely disappeared leaving Ziqui to Hiachao.
Having only men in their household, they were the ones that Jian JIan talked to about her female problems. The men were uncomfortable when she announced about having her first period at sixteen. She was telling them that probably it was genetic. No one really can answer her questions because they don’t know about menstruations.
At school, Jian Jian met a girl who is their class president. She is Mingyue who invited her to get ice-cream but Jian Jian turned up with her brothers which rather overwhelmed Mingyue. But she noticed the extra-closeness of the three.
The four started hanging out and the shy MIngyue started to come out of her shell.
Jian Jian happily related that she has a child betrothal with Ling Xiao when she asks Hoping if he could be her adopted father.
Apparently young Ling Xiao begged her on bended knees not to do it because he will marry her one day.
Despite the marriage thing, Jian Jian treated both guys as her real brothers, although Ling Xiao is beginning to feel uncomfortable with Jian Jian lying in his bed.
I am really loving this drama more and more. The leads are gorgeous and charismatic.
Episode 4
Chen Tin suddenly turned up out of the blue at Ling Xiao’ school. She wanted him to meet his young half-sister.
He was very upset with his mother as she left him to a young child, who was younger than him ten years ago.
His mother had the grace to be embarrassed but not enough because she then dumped her young daughter at Heichao’s restaurant.
She also told Ling Xiao that Heichao’s fatherly love towards him was fake. He was being paid by Hepang to feed him and look after him. His real blood family is his half-sister.
Nasty woman.
Meanwhile, Ziqui was affected by the sudden appearance of Ling Xiao mother. He began to miss his own.
Episode 5
This episode will make one cry. The child Ziqui made me cry.
The relationship is becoming more complicated.
Jian Jian is becoming rather jealous of Ling Xiao’s growing closeness to his blood sister especially when he noticed that same birthmark that his dead sister had on his new sister.
It was Ziqui’s birthday and his aunt came to visit.
Heichao was absolutely heartbroken for Ziqui when he overheard the aunt telling Ziqui to be so extra good, extra helpful to Heichao. Ziqui owes Heichao so much for bringing him up.
Heichao knew that among the children Ziqui was the most helpful. He does everything without being asked. He used to find him at the dead of the night doing the laundry. He used to eat only vegetables because the young child thought he was not deserving of meat.
Heichao feels that Ziqui is his own and should not feel grateful for everything he was given.
Is blood thicker than water?
Chengzi, Ling Xiao half sister had an accident while she was with Jian Jian.
In the hospital, Jian Jian was just about to talk to Ling Xiao when his sister called. Ling Xiao told Jian Jian to go home.
Jian Jian was a little upset but Ziqui took control and told Jian Jian that they should go home as they were not welcome there.
Episode 6
Life is beginning to go back to normal after Chen Ting and Chengzi went back to Singapore.
But it did not last long as Zi Qui was located by his estranged father, Zhou Huaguang, who had remarried to a rich woman from the mining industry.
Huaguang wanted Zi Qui to go live with him abroad so he can send him to the best university abroad.
Zi Qui told his father never to contact him again.
Jian Jian won a gold prize in wood carving. She may be artistic but she was near the bottom of the class and rather proud of it.
The very bottom of their exam result was taken by a transfer student, Tang Can, who is an advertisement superstar.
Meanwhile, Mingyue’s mother now encourages her daughter to be friends with Jian Jian after she heard that both her brothers are in the top 10 of the school and that Ling Xiao had been accepted at Peking University.
Episode 7
Finally, Jian Jian had gone to the dreaded dentist with Ling Xiao. She told him that she wishes that he becomes a dentist so she would not be scared of them.
This episode is really about Ziqui and his estranged father, Huaguang.
Mingyue unwittingly revealed that Ziqui had a run-in with his biological father at school the other day.
Both Jian Jian and Ling Xiao were shocked because Ziqui had kept this a secret from them.
They then tried to ask him about it but he would not say anything and then he took out his anger towards Mingyue for being such a blabbermouth on things that don’t concern her.
Mingyue was so upset she ran out of the house followed by Ling Xiao, who told her that he noticed her lack of confidence.
He continued that she is beautiful, intelligent, and kind so there is no need not to believe in herself.
In that instant, her crush on Ziqui quickly transferred to Ling Xiao.
Meanwhile, Jian Jian and Ling Xiao are still annoyed with their brother so they gave him the cold shoulder for keeping secrets.
But the secret came out with a bang when Huaguang contacted Heichao himself.
This annoyed Ziqui so much he was almost violent to his natural father. Ziqui began worrying that his natural father might force him to live with him.
His basketball mate told him that he was almost 18 so he can choose where he wanted to live.
Episode 8
Ziqui suspected his bio-father to have had something to do with a customer who reported hygiene issues in their restaurant.
Heichao had to temporary close his restaurant but he said he will not be defeated because he plans to open an even bigger noodle shop.
It looks like Tang Can might become a friend to Jian Jian and Mingyue.
It was the National College Entrance test time for both Zi Qui and Ling Xiao.
Jian Jian was studying when Ling Xiao looked over her answers. He flicked her on the forehead for getting some wrong.
She told him to stop knocking her on the head because he had to marry her if she becomes brain-damaged.
Ling Xiao said. “I will” and repeated it twice which actually surprised Jian Jian. She did not expect that he would take their running joke seriously.
Ling Xiao’s grandma was taken to the hospital for a suspected heart attack.
Episode 9
This episode is a bit dark, a downer.
Ling Xiao’s grandma was in a bad way. His mother along with her husband was driving to the airport to be with the grandma. The husband was driving too fast, he crashed his car and died instantly while Chen Ting was in a critical condition.
Poor Ling Xiao was in a very traumatic state. He was to say goodbye to his dying grandma while he was on the phone about his mother’s accident.
He later had to fly to Singapore with his Uncle (his mother’s brother) to see Chen Ting right after his grandma’s funeral.
His mother’s husband’s family had the funeral for Chen Ting’s husband and then they left for Malaysia.
So Ling Xiao with his uncle ended up looking after Chengzi and his mother who was still in intensive care.
After a month, his uncle said that he had to leave as he has a family to take care of. He told Ling Xiao that as he was now 18, he is man enough to take care of his mother who is now out of danger but would likely be paralyzed.
Ling Xiao said that his mother abandoned him when she divorced his father.
His uncle said that Chen Tin is still his mother. Bummer. He advised that he studied in Singapore so he could be near his mother and sister. Noooooooo
Meanwhile, Jian Jian was so worried about Ling Xiao she misstepped on the school stairs and hurt herself. She then lied that someone pushed her but she did not know who.
Ziqui immediately suspected his bio-dad to have arranged the ‘accident’
Poor Haichao ended up in the hospital after collapsing. He was apparently overworked and malnourished.
Ziqui realised that he will be a burden to his father who was now struggling financially. So he thought the best way was to take his bio-dad’s offer of sending him abroad to study, then he planned to come home as soon as he finishes his studies.
Heimei turned up out of the blue. She told Haichao that her ex-husband was determined to take Ziqui abroad to study. Heimei said that her ex was a real nasty piece of work but he could give a better future to Ziqui and they had to think of Ziqui first; what is good for him.
I love the bromance between Haichao and Hepeng. They discussed the issue of Ziqui going abroad. Hepeng said that he does not support the idea. Abroad is too far at least 10 hours on the plane.
Haichao, however, said that they had to look at the bigger picture. When Ziqui finishes his studies, Haichao was very sure that Ziqui would come home immediately because he is very filial. So it would be a win-win situation.
When Ziqui got home, Haichao and Hepeng tried to broach the subject of studying abroad but Ziqui himself said it first. He told them that he wanted to study abroad.
Episode 10
Omigod! This episode is an absolute cryfest. You will need a box of tissues.
Anyway, Ziqui told Haichao that he was going to study in the UK (good choice btw, lol). He explained that it would remove the onus of tuition fees from Haichao.
For some reason, Haichao got very very upset despite originally planning to encourage Ziqui to go abroad.
Ziqui promised that he will come back immediately after his studies.
Ling Xiao celebrated his 18th birthday in the hospital corridor reading texts from his dads, brother, and sister, which made him smile.
That little smile was seen by his uncle who berated him for being happy when his mother was flat of her back in the hospital bed. The uncle said that he was leaving in a few days.
Ling Xiao also said that he was leaving as well because he misses his sister.
His uncle went mental and told Ling Xiao that he owed it to his mother to look after her because he killed his sister. Nasty man.
Poor Ling Xiao felt so defeated.
Hengzhi gave him a slice of birthday cake. She wanted him to make a wish but he said he never make birthday wishes because he does not believe in miracles. Anyway, he did make a fervent wish.
A few days later he was back home in China. Jian Jian was so happy to see him, she jumped into him and clanged like a limpet.
Their happy reunion did not last as Ling Xiao and Ziqui started fighting at the rooftop when Ziqui found out that Ling Xiao was going to study in Singapore and basically leave Jian Jian alone.
Everything then came out in the open that both brothers are leaving China. The saddest of all with this turn of event was Jian Jian.
She went to her bedroom sobbing her eyes out. Ling Xiao followed to comfort her but she cannot be comforted. Then Ziqui also went in and she said they were all leaving her, contrary to their promises that they will always be together.
Ziqui was so upset he had to leave the room.
Jian Jian suddenly came out of her blanket cocoon. She told Ling Xiao that actually they are not related. He was just a neighbour who she grew up with.
Ling Xiao told her that when she had grown up he will stay with her for a lifetime (another hint of a marriage).
But Jian Jian said she does not believe him. When he leaves, he is no longer her brother.
Ziqui really felt the sadness of Jian Jian and kept a sad vigil in a corner of the living room overlooking her bedroom door.
Haichao found him all crouched out, looking sad and pathetic. He made Ziqui a glass of milk.
Ziqui said that he was so sad and worried about Jian Jian. What if someone bullies her when he was away? This scene was really emotional and I’m crying remembering it while I am typing this. I hope all the tears falling on my laptop does not get me electrocuted. LOL
Anyway, Ziqui promised again that he will be back after his studies to live with Haichao.
Haichao said that was not a good idea. He will be living off his parent.
Ziqui then said that he will live and protect Jian Jian.
Haichao said that what if Jian Jian gets married.
Ziqui was having none of that. He does not believe that Jian Jian should get married at all.
Haichao painstakingly explained about natural separation. He said that Ziqui will form his own world one day with his own wife and children.
Ziqui asked about brothers and sisters.
“They will have their own world.”
Ziqui said he will never ever going to get married.
The next morning, Haichao found Jian Jian’s bedroom empty. She was on her way to stay with her grandma.
Hepang arrived and saw the state of both Ling Xiao and Ziqui, both bruised in the face.
The reason came out and he went ballistic.
He called his brother in law to castigate him over guilt-tripping Ling Xiao to look after his mother. But the die is cast. Ling Xiao had already enrolled at a Singapore University and missed his chance to take a placement at a Chinese university. He needed to repeat the year to get a chance to enroll in a Chinese university. Bummer!
Hepang was upset with Ling Xiao for not consulting him over such a major decision.
Anyway, both the boys were packing their things when each found a box of Adidas trainers with a sweet note from Jian Jian.
Ling Xiao wore them and walked to and pro in his tiny bedroom. He was happy.
Ziqui clutched the box to his chest and sobbed his heart out. He really adored his little sister from the moment he saw her despite her being mean to him at first. He was always her staunchest ally. She can never do wrong in his eyes and now he was leaving and she was not there to say his goodbyes.
The boys left with so much sadness. And I was left with swollen eyes. huhuhu
Episode 11
The boys went back on their promise to come back as soon as they graduate. It has been nine years and there was hardly any contact with them. Their once close-knit ties are just now a yesterday’s fond memory.
They were all busy and their only contact was a quick text during holiday seasons and birthdays.
To start with, Jian Jian would not facetime/video call either of the boys to get over missing them and when they caught up with her, she was lukewarm and would pass the mobile phone to either Haichao or Heping.
Ling Xiao’s would sometimes text Mingyue to ask her to secretly send him Jian Jian’s latest photo.
Jian Jian went to study sculpture and after she graduated she opened a studio with her senior, Du Juan.
She then rented an apartment and now lives with Mingyue and Tang Can, who came back from Beijing.
Jian Jian realised that those people who wanted to come would come back and those who don’t would stay away out of your life and out of your mind.
Ziqui did not come back because he wanted to specialise in dessert.
And Lin Xiao had a gap year from school to care full time for his mother and sister.
Her last news about Ling Xiao was that he accepted a position in a hospital in Singapore to be with his mother.
Episode 12
At last, not a tear today.
Ling Xiao had finally escaped from the controlling grasp of his mother. He is back.
Jian Jian was becoming popular as a sculptor. Her work was part of a well-subscribed exhibition.
She was looking at a piece called Dream Lover by her friend when she got knocked over and would have fallen had a pair of hands not caught her. Unfortunately, the hands were too familiar and squeezed her in the boobs.
The culprit was arrested and taken to the police station.
The man was Ziqui. He was so embarrassed and gutted when he found out that he had to confront the victim of his misdemeanor and it would be up to the victim if she goes ahead to press charges.
Ziqui kept begging the police to just let him pay fines but Jian Jian turned up.
Jian Jian graphically described how the perpetrator was such a pervert squeezing her boobs.
Ziqui still hiding his face said that he used to squeeze a girl’s tummy.
Jian Jian then realised that the perv was Ziqui.
Anyway, Haichao, who was with Ling Xiao, found out that Jian Jian was at the police station.
Ling Xiao ran to the station and saw Jian Jian who he looked at longingly. He also noticed Ziqui with her.
They all ended up sitting on a bench overlooking the sea. After an awkward catching up, Jian Jian decided that it was just too excruciating to be in the middle of Ziqui and Ling Xiao, who were scoring points against each other. She just had to escape and she did.
Poor Ziqui missed the family so much but did not know what to do, how to come back to the fold. Instead, he is all alone and reduced to stalking and peeping at how happy the fathers at the return of Ling Xiao.
Ling Xiao told his fathers that he was moving out. At first, they were rather sad that he was going again just after he had just come back. But he told them that he was moving in the apartment opposite Jian Jian.
Mingyue was Ling Xiao’s fait accompli, she was crushing on him.
Mingyue had to bring Jian Jian to the dentist as she was suffering from a toothache because of her addiction to lollipops and anything sweet.
Episode 13
Ling Xiao and Ziqui half expected that they can just pick up where they left off with Jian Jian. They did not expect that it would be so awkward between them. Every time, they saw her, she could not wait to leave.
But Ling Xiao and Ziqui were not giving up.
Ling Xiao became a dentist because he knew how phobic Jian Jian of the dentist and he wanted to be a reassuring figure for her oral problems. And he made such a gorgeous dentist as well.
Mingyue took Jian Jian to the dentist without telling her that the dentist was Ling Xiao.
After her treatment, he gave Jian Jian extra aftercare including holding her hand for reassurance while a compress was applied to her painful cheek.
She then remembered the time he took her to the dentist. He held her hand as well and comforted her telling her that he was never going to leave her. But he did.
Because of this, she pulled her hand away from his tender ministering and left soon after.
She then went to a client who commissioned an art piece for his newly opened restaurant. She was spooked when it turned out that the owner was none other than Ziqui.
Ziqui said that he made the array of cakes on the table just for her because he’s always remembered what she said all those years ago that she wanted to open a cake shop.
Due to the dental work on her mouth that day, she really can’t eat anything, much less cakes, but Ziqui was insistent not knowing her predicament.
She gave in with a bite of the blueberry tart but when he spooned another piece. She then told him she was sick, unwell, and can’t eat anymore.
He finally realised that there is a massive gap between them, his beloved sister, the person he was closest to.
He did everything to close the gap. He rented the apartment opposite her flat, not knowing that he was gazumping Ling Xiao.
Mingyue pleaded with Ziqui to give up the apartment because the guy who originally rented it was her crush for many years.
Ziqui, however, was not moved. He wanted to be with his sister in order to protect her as he had always promised Jian Jian.
Meanwhile, Hepang and Haichao were talking about the kids. Hepang said that he does not mind Ling Xiao moving out because he had gotten used to living alone. He then said that it would be nice if Ling Xiao marries Jian Jian. They were so suited together.
Haichao just said to leave the affairs of the heart to the children.
Jian Jian came home not knowing that Ling Xiao was at the flat.
She started telling MingYue and Tang Can that she met both her brothers but she felt awkward around them. She really doesn’t know them anymore. She anologised the situation with her brothers as like 2 cans of expired peaches. You can’t really have them anymore.
Mingyue was trying to stop her talking but Tang Can was encouraging her.
Ling Xiao was upset but he can relate. Afterall he left her for 9 years with barely a contact over the past seven years.
They found out their new neighbour was Ziqui.
Mingyue went to see him and begged him not to tell Ling Xiao about her crush on him.
Ling Xiao asked Ziqui if they could be flatmates in the two-bedroom apartment.
Ziqui said to beg him.
“Please” begged Ling Xiao
‘Ok” Ziqui replied easily.
I love their bromance. They are so gorgeous.
Meanwhile, it looks like that Jian Jian has a boyfriend because she has got a textmate.
Episode 14
In my opinion, this drama is cut above the rest. It is so good, the story is told in a very simple style, no beating around the bush. But the cast is perfectly performing their characters with so much sympathy. You can feel the pathos, the worry, the sadness, the sorrow, the feeling of helplessness, and most importantly the loneliness and of course the occasional joy and happiness which makes this drama so uplifting and heartwarming.
Episode 14 is about that time after the surprise meeting of the pseudo-siblings again after such a long time.
Jian Jian felt every bit of the awkwardness of being with her once adored brothers. Being virtually being cut off from them gave birth to a sense of not exactly alienation but more of indifference.
How can you get back the closeness of practically living in each other’s pockets once? After so many years without each other, there’s bound to be factors that change one’s perspective, experience, way of doing, and seeing things which are called growth.
Anyway, let’s go back to the drama. Jian Jian was telling Mingyue and Tang Can about her feelings about her brothers. She said that she doesn’t feel the same clossness about them. In fact, she had forgotten how it was but she was expected to carry on as if the years that had gone by did not happen. They expected that she had stagnated as a second-year high schooler whose world is a capsule of her brothers and fathers.
Tang Can said that she should just treat them as relatives as distant relatives. Be casual and not to force herself to be sisterly if she doesn’t feel like it.
Mingyue thought that Tang Can’s advice was crap but Jian Jian liked it.
The next morning she was chill. She knocked at the opposite apartment occupied by Ziqui. She was friendly but aloof. She told him to prepare a cake for Hepang who had a birthday. And also bring gifts for the father.
Ziqui did not notice it though, he was too elated that his sister knocked on his door.
Ziqui finally showed himself to Heichao who was so overcome with happiness.
Haichao had long for his son to come home. This scene made me tear up again despite seeing the trailers with and without sub so many times.
The get-together was a very happy occasion. Everyone was happy to see each other.
Then a secret was revealed which almost derailed the glorious family dinner.
Ziqui accidentally pulled on Ling Xiao’s shirt collar which revealed a big scar. Ziqui was so shocked and so annoyed that Ling Xiao got a scar. Who maltreated him?
Everyone looked at that scar. Ling Xiao said that he got burnt.
Hepang was in despair and Haichao was equally worried.
Seeing that the family dinner will descend to something maudlin, Jian Jian said that it was time to eat the bubbling hotpot.
Jian Jian made everyone overcome the sense of worry over how Ling Xiao must have lived with his mother.
Again the hotpot brought out their sense of wellbeing.
Ling Xiao, walked Jian Jian and Ziqui outside. Ziqui said he was going to give Jian Jian a lift back home.
They found out that Ziqui had bought a cute pink moped online. But it doesn’t look like it was going to work.
Ling Xiao worried for Jian Jian so he said he was going to get her a taxi but at the opportune time her phone rung. She told them she got to go to meet her boyfriend.
The look on her brothers’ faces was more than shock.
Ziqui tried to catch up with Jian Jian’s taxi but what he saw on his peripheral vision was someone who looks like his mother. He gave chase but he lost her.
And poor Ling Xiao was alone at the rooftop trying to contact Jian Jian.
He then listened to his mother’s many messages.
It seems that Ling Xiao did escape rather than leave. His mother was still expecting him to come back after his ‘holiday’
Episode 15
This episode is all about Jian Jian and her new boyfriend, Zheng Shuran, who she had known for many years as an internet buddy she shares a love of sculptures.
Out of the blue Shuran asked to be her boyfriend and she said yes because she wanted to get inspiration out of the relationship for her art.
Unfortunately, her brothers’ protective instinct kicked in in overdrive. They started thinking of the worst scenario that could happen to her which is the boy forcing her to a hotel.
The boys hunted the lovers from the cake shop where they were last seen to the nearby shopping centre. As they were running out of option, the boys went to the police. It so happened that Hepang was on duty. The boys told them that Jian Jian had been forced into a hotel by her boyfriend.
Hepang tried to calm the boys down because he said Jian Jian had only been on disconnect for an hour. Hepang asked the boys if they had called Haichao.
They said that they had not as they don’t want to worry him.
Hepang called Haichao and informed him of the dastardly situation concerning Jian Jian.
Haichao was so surprised because he was looking at Jian Jian and Shuran at the noodle restaurant chatting merrily away.
The boys turned up like a flash of lightning in front of the lovers.
Episode 16
And it got really worst.
Both Ling Xiao and Ziqui said that they had noticed that Jian Jian’s new boyfriend is untrustworthy, a real pervert, who stares at women all the time.
Jian Jian dismissed it explaining that Zhuran is an artist and he was trying to get inspiration.
Ling Xiao was having none of it and gave her his mobile phone in front of everyone at their dinner table. He ordered her to call Zhuran and break up with him.
Jian Jian was annoyed.
Ziqui also backed up Ling Xiao and told Jian Jian that she had to break up with Zhuran.
Jian Jian had had enough and told them that she doesn’t need them. She was fine when they left to go to their respective family abroad, she has friends and was really happy. Now that she is 25 she can decide for herself, she doesn’t need them anymore, she can go to any dentist for treatment and there are plenty of dessert shops. She also said that they were not really blood families.
Everyone was shocked, her father was so shocked and told her to apologise but she would not have it.
Ling Xiao declared that she had been wanting to say what she just had mentioned from the first day that they had returned. This was how she really felt about them.
He then left feeling sad because she was the one anchor in his life that he cherished, valued, and thought would remain constant. He remembered the time when he almost lost her.
They were very young, just after his mother had left. Jian Jian was begging him to buy her sweets but he told her that it was not good for her teeth.
Jian Jian though threw a strop and had a sit-down strike on the street.
Ling Xiao counted to three and expected her to comply to go home with him but she did not. He started going but he got concerned when he noticed that young Jian Jian was not following him as she always does in the end.
When he returned to the spot where he last saw her, she was not there. He ran around trying to find her until he heard her screaming for him. She was being abducted. Ling Xiao went and grabbed Jian Jian by biting the abductor’s hand.
Ling Xiao kept a tight hold on Jian Jian and won’t let go of her no matter how much a couple of abductors were trying to beat him up.
Thank goodness some passersby saw what was happening.
Heichao was so grateful to Hepeng that he declared that Heping will be Jian Jian’s godfather.
Heping, however, said that he will be Jian Jian’s father as well.
Then Haichao told Jian Jian to honour Ling Xiao as he will be her new brother.
Cute Jian Jian bowed to Ling Xiao and said “Ge ge”
Ling Xiao bowed back at Jian Jian and said “Mei Mei”

They unwittingly bowed at each other three times which symbolizes childhood betrothal.
Jian Jian might not have realised it but even at a very young age, Ling Xiao knew that Jian Jian was the one, his soulmate.
Now, his soulmate is leaving him and he can’t do anything about it.
Ziqui remained glued to Jian Jian. Despite telling him to leave her alone, he made sure Jian Jian is fed a good breakfast.
Then the bombshell!
Heping got a call from Chen Ting. She wanted to know if he was well and when he was going to send Ling Xiao back to Singapore.
Episode 17
Jian Jian was left alone by Ling Xiao to the point that when she had a dental appointment, he recommended Xixi to do Jian Jian tooth extraction.
Suddenly Jian Jian realised that she wanted her brother.
And this really made more apparent when she met him on the lift where he was pulling a suitcase.
Jian Jian repentantly begged Ling Xiao not to leave for Singapore. She apologised profusely. He is her brother, she gets that but he and Ziqui have to give her time to come to terms that they are back.
Suddenly Ling Xiao stopped at the bins and started to open the suitcase full of rubbish by the previous tenant.
Jian Jian was so embarrassed and was so grateful when Mingyue turned up.
Ling Xiao though had never been happier for a long time.
Then Jian Jian heard from her father that Ziqui was in a bad accident. She was so frightened and stressed and when she met Tang Can at the hospital, it was the last straw when Tang Can jokingly said that Ziqui was all bloodied and the doctor had said that they did everything they could.
Jian Jian started crying for Ziqui.
Ling Xiao came to see her immediately and assured her that Ziqui was not dead. Ling Xiao then scolded a very sorry Tang Can for joking which was out of place at that time.
It was later revealed that Ziqui, feeling drained from work, took some of the vitamin pills of Ling Xiao.
He did not realised that they were valium as Ling Xiao had put the tablets in vitamin pills containers. So he drove his moped under the influence of drugs into a tree.
It then came out that Ling Xiao has insomnia and relies on drugs to relax and sleep.
The three really bonded again as if the years they were away from each other never really happened or they finally reconciled their hurt feelings from each other. Awww
Episode 18
The girls threw a welcome/karaoke party for the boys, which included Zhuang Bei who is Ziqui’s best friend.
Tang Can has a massive crush on Zhuang Bei but he fell in love at first sight with Mingyue upon seeing her at the party.
They noticed the easy closeness between the ‘brothers and sister’ who remained eating at the dinner table while Tang Can was giving her all trying to impress Zhuang Bein with off-key singing.
Zhuang Bei whispered to Mingyue that the brothers and sister were not blood-related. He reckoned that Jian Jian will end up as a couple with one of the brothers.
Mingyue immediately said that it would not be with Ling Xiao because he was in love with someone else already. Thinking that he had been carrying a torch for her since high school.
While Ling Xiao was helping Ziqui to the toilet, Ling Xiao’s phone rung and Jian Jian answered it.
The caller was XiaoMei (little sister), Ling Xiao’s sister, wanting to know when her brother was coming. Mei said that her brother was only supposed to be away for a month.
Episode 19
It looks like Haichao had genuinely fell for He Mei. Nooooooooooo
Anyway, Ling Xiao told Jian Jian that he will really be away for a couple of days to Singapore. To reassure her, he showed her the confirmation for his return ticket.
He Lan came to visit her nephew Ziqui to fleece him off of 20,000RMB as her husband has stomach cancer and needed money for chemo.
Seriously, the writer has a problem with the older women. He made them all horrible, unreasonable, mental, unfilial, and money-grabbing bitches. LOL
Mingyue drove Ling Xiao to the airport. She told him that she can no longer be in an ambiguous relationship with him so she kissed the surprised Ling Xiao on the cheek then told him they will talk when he gets back from Singapore.
Ling Xiao was back in Singapore.
Jian Jian tried to call him but she can’t get through because his phone was broken by his furious mother when she realised that Ling Xiao was not staying permanently in Singapore with her and he calls the place in China home. Chen Ting was going mental.
Episode 20
This episode is bittersweet. Poor Mingyue.
Ziqui is constantly worrying about Jian Jian and her being too young to have a boyfriend. His friend, Zhuang Bei, told Ziqui that it looks like he was actually in love with Jian Jian.
Ziqui was rather clueless about love but somehow Zhuang Bei convinced him that he was indeed in love with Jian Jian.
After all, Jian Jian is always on his mind and that she also features in a major way in the future he was envisioning for himself.
Due to this newfound knowledge that he is in love with Jian Jian, suddenly the innocence of their relationships as siblings was breaking down. He was looking at her differently.
During the anniversary of Jian JIan’s mother’s death, Jian Jian drunk part of the strong wine offering to her mother, and she got a bit merry.
Ziqui had to piggyback her home. She sleepily whispered to him not to leave her. And he promised he won’t ever again. Without Ling Xiao, he will look after her and their dad himself.
Ling Xiao did return to China fairly late at night on the 21st death anniversary of Jian Jian’s mother. He insisted on paying his respect to Jian Jian’s mother.
He then hurried to Jian Jian.
Mingyue was all excited to see Ling Xiao’s backpack in their living room. She saw the ajar door to Jian Jian room. She was all happy but got the shock of her life and heart when she saw Ling Xiao tenderly kissing the sleeping Jian Jian.
She realised that she was not the girl he loves since highschool. It was Jian Jian all along.
Poor Mingyue moved out… for a while?
Episode 21
This is an OMG episode. So cute and then ruined in the latter part by the appearance of Hei Mei. Seriously, the writer has a big problem. Why make a perfectly interesting drama by adding a boring token romance for Haichao? Why? Why?
This part of the drama made Haichao, a favourite character, not the romantic husband pining for his dead wife all those years ago. I thought he only wanted to marry Hei Mei to give Jian Jian a mother figure when she was just five years old, just a year after her mother died.
It this episode, it makes it looks like Haichao had been in love and pining for Hei Mei instead longer than he loved his dead wife. It seems he just can’t forget the grim face HeiMei.
But let’s leave this boring bit and go to the most romantic and cutest confession of love.
This was the morning after Ling Xiao couldn’t help himself anymore and just had to kiss Jian Jian while she slept. The kisses woke her up and she was in complete denial of what had happened.
But Ling Xiao would not let her forget.
She tried to convince him that what he was feeling was just a result of meeting each other again after such a long time and the residue of the guilt from that made him think there was more to the sibling love he felt for her. And probably he was traumatised by whatever occurred in his recent visit to Singapore.
But gorgeous Ling Xiao (please Song Wei Long, grow your hair back) confessed to Jian Jian…
“When I was in my senior year in high school, I told you I would marry you in the future.
Since then, I’ve made up my mind that I’ll leave you the watermelon core right in the middle,

I must say I really savoured the confession. I had to stop the mouse every phrase and smiled myself silly each time.
Yes, if Jian Jian, doesn’t like the marrow, the meat from the gills, stuffing the buns and the watermelon, send them to me, Ling Xiao. I’ll pm you my address. LOL
And then this gorgeous episode is let down by that Hei Mei story. Why oh why? I am not interested! SERIOUSLY.
Episode 22
The HeiMei storyline continues… yawn
Hepeng and Haichao decided to tell Ziqui that Heimei has been back in the country for a while. She runs a beauty parlour, married with a four year old son. They also told him that Heimei had not mentioned Ziqui to her current husband.
Ziqui said that he does not care. He has his own family.
Ling Xiao, however, told him to go see HeiMei and tell her that he knows the situation right now and that she should never come to him one to ask him to take responsibility for her.
Ziqui (Steven Zhang is such a good actor, a joy to watch) asked to speak to Haichao privately. He then told her that he wanted to be a real family because he wanted to marry Jian Jian, who had broken up with Zhuran.
Haichao was shocked and surprised. He asked if Jian Jian agrees with the marriage thing.
Ziqui confessed that he had not told her yet. He wanted first to ask Haichao’s permission to court Jian Jian.
Haichao asked him what if Ziqui does not get his permission and what if Jian Jian does not want to marry Ziqui.
Ziqui said he will work really hard and won’t stop until he gets permission from Haichao and agreement to marry from Jian Jian.
Haichao told Ziqui that it was so sudden and he needed time to get around the idea first.
Meanwhile, Ling Xiao told Jian Jian that he was a bit jealous of Ziqui because Ziqui seemed to always come first with her. Even when they were younger, it was Ziqui who she went with to the arcades and computer centers. They always shared laughs and misdemeanors and ate junk foods. He felt excluded.
Jian Jian said that because Ling Xiao was anal. LOL He was always the voice of reason and stop them doing what they thought was fun. And as to junk food, she remembers that he would not eat anything after he had brushed his teeth.
Anyway, Ling Xiao told her to think seriously of what he said to her (his confession).
Jian Jian finally agreed that she would but she made him promised not to tell anyone especially Ziqui for now.
Ziqui found Jian Jian alone in the living room.
Jian Jian asked him to apply the tincture to her mosquito bites. She felt comfortable with him, like the brother when they were younger.
And she told him so.
This gave Ziqui the confidence to broach the subject of becoming closer still by being her boyfriend.
Jian Jian was shocked. This was just too much. Both her adored brothers confessed to her. She can’t take it anymore so she left him and locked herself in her room.
The following day, Ling Xiao went to her studio and asked her to lunch. He was really serious about his courtship. He wanted to hold hands while they were walking together.
Jian Jian was unsure at first but told herself and Ling Xiao that they did hold hands as children.
Episode 23
Ziqui had his confrontation with Heimei, who came to his restaurant.
He Mei told him about her life with her current husband and her four-year-old son.
She asked why Ziqui wanted to see her.
Ziqui said he had some questions he wanted to asked her to get closure.
He wanted to know why she did not send for him like she promised when she went to Shenzhen all those years ago.
He Mei said that that time was hard. She could barely take care of herself so she could certainly not be able to look after him.
Ziqui declared that he was an inconvenience for her. Ziqui said that he has his family and he will not have anything to do with her the buck stops here. She should not come to him to ask him to take responsibility for her in the future.
HeiMei was unmoved. All she said was that she had another son.
Ziqui returned the pocket mirror with her photo back to Hei Mei as a sign that they were through as family.
Hei Mei did tell Ziqui rather belatedly that he could come to her if he faces any problem.
Jian Jian went to see Mingyue, who so upset with her.
Jian Jian said that she found out that Ling Xiao likes her the same time as Mingyue did. She then added that she was shocked to know that both her brothers love her.
This only made MIngyue fumed even more. Mingyue told Jian Jian that she came to see her to brag because she knew she liked Ziqui in highschool.
Mingyue called Jian Jian a dog which insulted Jian Jian so much it made her cry.
Ling Xiao could not help but smile when she was telling him what Mingyue told her.
Then Ziqui came home and told them that he just met Auntie He.
At first Jian Jian did not know who Auntie He, but Ling Xiao elaborated that it was He Mei.
Ziqui said he was alright and went to his bedroom.
Jian Jian later went to see him and found him covered in his duvet from head to toe, looking pathetically sad. Jian Jian gave him chocolate to cheer him up and ended up holding his hand to comfort him.
Jian Jian and Du Juan’s studio is becoming popular. A foreigner wanted to do business.
Jian Jian and Du Jian asked Ziqui to act as their interpreter.
When he turned up, he looks rather suave in his grey suit. But he is Zuqui, a prankster. He asked Jian Jian to smell his hair, she said it was ok, he then said that he had not washed it for three days. They ended up chasing each other in the studio. They are really brother and sister.
Episode 24
Within 2 minutes of this episode, I was shedding tears.
It started with Ling Xiao having a nightmare which so affected him, he started having hallucinations from the guilt trip his mother had put him through.
Jian Jian was just in time to console him as he was going deeper and deeper into depression.
Jian Jian later took him for a jog to increase his endorphins, thus would make him have a good night’s sleep.
Jian Jian asked him what happened in Singapore. She did not expect that his mother could just let him go without a good fight.
Ling Xiao told her that his mother confiscated his certificates and passport but in the end Mei had spoken to their mother about being grown up and time for her to look after Chen Ting.
His mother grudgingly agreed to let him go but he feels guilty of leaving them and yet he just can’t help himself from returning back to China.
HeiMei came to see Haichao. She told him that she had spoken to Ziqui and seen the place where he works. She reckons that the cake shop is hemorrhaging him of money. He opened up in the wrong location where his main customers are students who can ill-afford to buy expensive cakes.
HeiMei told Haichao to tell Ziqui to contact her friend who can advise him about running a restaurant. HeiMei told Haichao not to tell Ziqui that the friend is her friend.
Mingyue met up with Jian Jian. Mingyue said that they are the bestest of friends that is why it was hard to continue on living together in their flat. Jian Jian was very upset because it was like an end to an era. She and Mingyue had been best friends for such a long time.
Tang Can was having a bad time with her parents who look down on her business in Taobao.
It got so bad that she brought home her bad feeling and Jian Jian got the full force of it when Jian Jian said that perhaps her parents were right that she should work in a museum rather than caring service from strangers.
Tang Can was upset and accused Jian Jian that she was looking down on her and perhaps when Jian Jian becomes a really famous artist, she would drop Tang Can without a thought.
They fought bitterly so Jian Jian escaped to her brothers’s apartment.
Ling Xiao saw how upset she was and very disturbed by her fight with Tang Can that she reckoned she would not be able to sleep.
He told her that he had something that would make her forget about her row with Tang Can.
Jian JIan said nothing can take it off her mind.
He then kissed her deeply (me next, I am upset too, lol). They were so cute.
Jian Jian liked the kiss but was so embarrassed about it she buried her head on the cushion.
Ling Xiao left her alone to shower and then he will take her to get ice-cream.
Poor Mengyue was being bullied by her mother to give up her news reporting job and become a civil servant instead.
Episode 25
Mingyue decided to return to the flat as it was more bearable to face the embarrassment of misunderstanding Ling Xiao rather than put up with her mother’s nagging.
The following morning, Mingyue made up with Jian Jian, who she teased as being in a deeper shit that her. She said that Jian Jian in cheating on two men under one roof.
Jian Jian was with Ziqui when she imagined the kiss with Ling Xiao the previous night. She asked Ziqui whether he would suddenly kiss her if he saw that she was mad.
Ziqui was shocked by the idea of kissing her, instead if she was really mad he would stick her head in the freezer to cool off.
Jian Jian said it was a good answer.
Ling Xiao took Mingyue to lunch to apologise and clear the misunderstanding.
He said that he owed her an apology because he befriended her at first in order to use her when he was in Singapore. He told her a bit of how it was like then. He was looking after a temperamental mother who often would exhibit some bizarre acts then he had to act as mother and father to his sister and then he had to study as well. There was enough days of the week. When he felt like giving up, he would call Mingyue to ask her about Jian Jian. The photos and news about Jian Jian were what kept him going.
Kind Mingyue was so moved and said that he needn’t apologise but just say thank you instead.
Mingyue and Tang Can were talking in the living room, when Jian Jian overheard Tang Can venting her jealousy about Jian Jian.
Tang Can said that Mingyue was unlucky in love and she was unlucky in her career. Meanwhile, Jian JIan has everything and she is now a real artist.
Jian Jian was upset about Tang Can being sniggering towards her so she went to a coffee shop and ordered a huge cream cake she busily enjoyed all to herself until the gorgeous Ling Xiao showed up.
He said that he was at the shop to get her a cake but saw she was already demolishing one.
She said he could have some if he wanted and he did, using the same spoon as Jian Jian used. She was shocked at first but he was just so GORGEOUS!
Jian Jian told him about Tang Can being jealous of her, she said she just wanted prosperity to their country and world peace.
Ling Xiao said that he has a simpler wish, good health to the family, no one gets sick and for himself when he marries he wanted a couple of kids.
Jian Jian was curious about two kids and asked about it.
Ling Xiao made it sound as if the two kids are negotiable and it will really be up to her. So cute… omg.
My wish is also simple. Please give another romance drama to these two together immediately. Their chemistry is up the roof.
Ziqui’s restaurant was not doing well. He was hardly making any money.
Anyway, Jian Jian was being interviewed about her rising career at the cake restaurant.
After the interview, she took the opportunity to speak about being together in a romantic way with Ziqui.
She told him that she had actually though of the wedding with him.
Ziqui became bashful but excited that she was thinking of marrying him.
Jian Jian continued that she reckoned being married with him will be a bad idea. She said what if they had an argument during a celebration, they would not be able to escape to other families because they were it.
She said that while not in good terms they will still eat together on the same table and sleep on the same bed.
Ziqui said then they will eat at the same table and sleep in the same bed just like when they were children.
Jian Jian said he was talking about sleep as a noun form rather than action word. LOL
Ziqui was so shocked that a girl like her would come out with such filth. LOL
Jian Jian said that she is 25. She further elaborated that the girl he really wanted to look after was her 6 years old self, her 10 years old self and her 16 years old.
Ziqui finally realised what she was saying but he was sad that they could not be a real family.
Jian Jian told him that though they are not legally a family in her heart he was always has been. In her heart’s family register, Haichao is their father, her dead mother was their mother, her older son was Ziqui and she was oldest daughter.
Ziqui asked where Ling Xiao figures?
Jian Jian said that he was his own family register with Heping.
This heartwarming declaration from Jian Jian mollified and gratified Ziqui.
Episode 26
Tang Can was really feeling sorry for herself. Mingyue tried to pacify her but Jian Jian gave her a good talking to. Jian Jian asked her what she really wanted to do. She kept going to auditions and get disappointed when she doesn’t get the role but the thing is that she does not really give it her 100%. She just wanted to become an actress for her parents’ vanity.
She said that Mingyue and her are her friend, not her punchbag.
She then ran to Ling Xiao.
She got annoyed with Zhuang Bei, who was with Ling Xiao looking at her contract, who disrespected Tang Can.
Jian Jian went to Ling Xiao’s room in a huff.
Ling Xiao followed her and they got talking. They even had a short conversation with Chen Ting, who insisted on speaking to Jian Jian over the phone.
Later on, rather excitedly curious, as one does, she asked Ling Xiao when he first found out he likes her.
Ling Xiao said that when he was in high school, that was why he did not want her to go to his room and climb on his bed.
She asked what would he had done if she had married someone else while he was away in Singapore.
Ling Xiao confessed that he had thought about it and he said he would have waited for her to get a divorce and help her look after the children, if she did not get a divorce, he will just be her faithful lifelong brother.
Jian Jian got more curious because as she rightly said, why her when there are plenty of other good girls around?
He said that people like him have no energy to look at other women to get to know. He looks for Jian Jian by instinct and without here he would feel like he was drowning.
Jian Jian held his hand and told him that she doesn’t have much energy either because she used it up with both him and Ziqui.
They were about to kiss but got interrupted by Ziqui who wanted to know what they were doing.
Jian Jian said they were playing.
The scene about Mingyue having fun inciting Jian Jian in front of Ling Xiao and Ziqui was absolutely hilarious.
Mingyue came to the breakfast table with a manga book entitled “Troubled by my Brother’s Love” Mingyue was laughing and Ling Xiao couldn’t help smiling, while Ziqui was shocked that Jian Jian reads such filth. LOL. He confiscated the book. Steven Zhang was such a brilliant actor.
HeiMei’s friend came to see Ziqui and advised him to downgrade his restaurant. Offer a cheaper, more suitable food for students’ budget or just close down the restaurant as it would continue to drain money.
Ziqui twigged that the woman was Heimei’s friend as he recognised him from before.
He went to Haichao with Jian Jian and talk about the woman.
Haichao admitted that the woman was indeed Heimei’s friend and it was all Heimei’s idea.
Haichao then asked if Ziqui and Jian Jian are dating.
Jian Jian enlightened her father that Ziqui really doesn’t love her as a woman but he just wanted to be included in the Li Family Register.
Ziqui denied this but Haichao asked how Jian Jian convinced Ziqui to cease and desist from pursuing her.
Jian Jian said that it was love.
Jian Jian was with Ziqui when he as withdrawing cash for staff pay. Jian Jian was shocked to know that he was using a credit card.
She told him that she thought he was loaded with his rich father financing him.
Ziqui confessed that he can’t stand his father and would not kowtow to him while he was studying abroad. His father, therefore, stop financing him, his tuition, his allowance, etc. Poor Ziqui had to take every available job that is going to finance himself.
Episode 27
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS DRAMA SO VERRRRY MUCH!
Jian Jian and Du Huan held a hotpot party for their friends.
Du Huan’s annoying boyfriend highlighted a trending topic that may interest Jian Jian. So they were curious what it was and told him to post in Moments. Du Huan tried to signal Jian Jian about it but it was too late everyone at the table was reading it.
It was Jian Jian secret blog about her two brothers who both confessed to her.
On their way back home, Jian Jian was supported at each side by MIngyue and Tang Can but both Ling Xiao and Ziqui pulled her into their flat to talk about their issues.
Now that Ling Xiao and Ziqui knew that they both confessed to her, each tried to convince each other how more suitable each of them for Jian Jian.
Ling Xiao said that he had a childhood betrothal with Jian Jian which can be attested by their neighbours.
Ziqui can’t be outdone. He said that he had a childhood marriage with Jian Jian, they slept on the same bed together.
But in the end, Ling Xiao pulled Jian Jian towards him and said that he was already going out with Jian Jian.
Poor Ziqui asked Jian Jian if it is true.
Jian Jian could only nod.
Poor Ziqui asked why Ling Xiao and not him? Why is he always abandoned?
Both Ling Xiao and Jian Jian felt the desolation from Ziqui which enveloped them as well.
That night all three could not sleep. Ziqui was crying himself to sleep, Ling Xiao took a couple of valium to calm himself down. And Jian Jian sneaked in between the sleeping Tang Can and Mingyue.
The next morning, the girls woke up talking about what happened.
Tang Can said that she would have chosen Ziqui because he comes from money, his father is rich. Although, Tang Can said that Ling Xiao will be rich one day from being a dentist.
Mingyue said that Ling Xiao is handsome but Jian Jian will have a hell of a mother in law. Mingyue also added that if she were a guy she would also choose Jian Jian. Tang Can objected but Mingyue said with Jian Jian there is no issue of a mother-in-law.
The girls were talking about going for breakfast somewhere but they were surprised to see the breakfast table already set by Ziqui.
Jian Jian felt guilty and followed him as he left their flat but he told her that he was not upset (but obviously he was).
Now, something is being set for the unlikable Heimei. She was talking to her friend who was telling Heimei that she had seen Ziqui who is such a good boy, as good as Heimei. No Heimei is no good. Seriously, she is something that rhymes with witch, LOL
Anyway their tete a tete was interrupted by a call from the kindergarten. Apparently little Dongdong has been a naughty boy, biting his schoolmates.
It turned out good old Heimei had ruined another soul. Her baby son had become autistic and the school had advice to pull him up and enrol him to a special school.
What is this special school? Haichao’ Noodle Restaurant?
Seriously, leave kind-hearted Haichao alone.
Jian Jian and Ling Xiao went to the garden of her university where she planted a tree. It was so verdant, it became known as the wishing tree, therefore, red ribbons surround it and cute little ornaments and wishes were hanging on it.
Jian Jian teased Ling Xiao when he posted a wish and had a little prayer. Ling Xiao said that you become a little superstitious as you grow older.
He said he wanted to wish “May our love last forever”
Jian Jian said it was old fashion but he hefted her against the tree and asked her how tall she was. She said she is 5’4″, he looked at her and she said she is 5’3″.
He then kissed her. Awww, how romantic but Jian Jian was left wanting more. Yes more, more.
They ended up in an eatery where they had their first domestic.
It started when they were talking about her height. Ling Xiao said that he will go down on his knees with a ring.
Jian Jian was rather shocked as they had only been going out for a few days. It is too easy and too soon to talk about a ring.
The atmosphere between then got even darker when Ling Xiao said that she should stay away from Ziqui.
Jian Jian said that they should also stay away from each other when Ziqui is around.
Ling Xiao was suddenly becoming emotional and told Jian Jian, “If you have mercy on me, just go ahead till the end. Don’t show your mercy to whoever more pathetic.’
Jian Jian was not having this but Ling Xiao had said his piece. He took his bag and left.
Jian Jian was running after him. She asked him what was going on?
Ling Xiao said that if she had changed her mind, he will still be her family, her brother to the end. Perhaps she was having a second thought and thinks Ziqui is more suited to her?
Jian Jian said she chose him because she likes him. She asked him what was going on? Did he not have any other outside passion?
Often Song Wei Long comes rather underwhelming in the acting department compared to Seven Tan and Steven Zhang but in this instance, this acting is spot on. He really made Ling Xiao looks lonely and a little needy. Good acting, I wanted to give him a hug.
What did you do in Singapore aside from looking after Auntie and Xiao Mei and going to school?, Jian Jian asked.

Daydreaming; seeing you when I come back, marrying you, having a child with you, being happy together as a family. I even thought of a name for our child.
Omg, it was filled with emotion.
Jian Jian was so worried that she asked him what was wrong with him? Was he sick?
Why did no one notice that he was not well?
Episode 28
Jian Jian was feeling out of sort because of the issues with both Ziqui and Ling Xiao so she called her father. They had a very heartwarming conversation.
Heping took Ling Xiao to a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor. He diagnosed that Ling Xiao had some serious psychological issues. He is depressed and needed to see a psychiatrist.
Heping suddenly told the doctor that all he wanted to know was about Ling Xiao’s insomnia.
The doctor gave the prescription to Ling Xiao and sent him out.
However, Ling Xiao stayed outside the door where he can hear his father talking with the doctor. Heping told the doctor that he could not send Ling Xiao to a psychiatrist because he is not even married yet. What would a potential bride think if they found out that Ling Xiao had been to a psychiatrist?
The doctor finally saw the point of Heping’s concern.
Ziqui found a dog abandoned by the dumpster. He took it home and with Jian Jian, they gave the dog a bath.
ziqui told Jian Jian that the dog was like him, abandoned and no one wanted.
Episode 29
This episode is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
Mingyue applied for a job in Beijing.
Tang Can learned that Zhuang Bei has a crush of Mingyue.
Jian Jian was finally able to make Ziqui understand that she might be with Ling Xiao in a romantic way, but he is still her brother that she cherished.
At first Ziqui was not convinced and said that once she’s married to Ling Xiao, he will become her family.
Jian Jian said that marriage relationship might be a temporary one. Once you don’t get on and get’s on each other’s nerves, you divorce just like Hei Mei and Hua Guang as well as Heping and Chen Ting. What she feels for Ziqui in from the heart, there are cases that you don’t get on with your own blood family like Ziqui and Huaguang but Jian Jian choose Ziqui as her brother. He is in her heart forever but he must nurture this relationship with her and she with him.
She reminded him that when he left for nine years, she had almost forgotten him and she doesn’t want that to happen ever again.
The next morning, Jian Jian, Ling Xiao and Ziqui went for noodles at Haichao’s.
Ziqui told the lovers that as a brother to Jian Jian, there are three rules to fallow.
First, Jian Jian must be impartial. She must not favour Ling Xiao over Ziqui.
Second, if Ling Xiao quarrels with Ziqui, Jian Jian must stand on the side of her brother.
Third, if Ling Xiao is not good to Jian Jian, Ziqui will beat him up.
Ling Xiao was about to say something but Jian Jian signaled him to just chill.
Haichao finally twigged that Jian Jian was in a relationship with Ling Xiao. He tried to get some feedback from Ziqui, who cheekily said that if Jian Jian and Ling Xiao don’t work out, he will take over. LOL
Ling Xiao and Jian Jian were in the house when Haichao turned up. He interrupted their kissing.
Haichao sent Ling Xiao to get him some muscle relaxant strips.
While Ling Xiao was away, Haichao talked to Jian Jian. He said that not that he was not in favour of Ling Xiao, he is worried of Chen Ting. He doesn’t want Jian Jian getting crap from her mother-in-law.
Jian Jian assured him that she and Ling Xiao are both young and can work through anything.
And they seemed to work together well because Ling Xiao surprised both Jian Jian and Ziqui by paying Ziqui’s credit card bill.
Ziqui did not complain much. He felt the close relationship that he has with Jian JIan and Ling Xiao.
Hei Mei was circling around Haichao again. She brought Dong Dong with her to Haichao’s restaurant. Good move, Haichao was totally enchanted with Dongdong.
Hei Mei said that she heard Huaguang had another son who he had celebrated with great pride and much expense. She then heard that Ziqui was working two jobs and struggling with money.
Hei Mei called Hua Guang in front of Haichao and berated him for the mistreatment of Ziqui, for not providing for Ziqui.
Huaguang said that he gave Ziqui every chance to recognise him as his father but Ziqui would not. He, therefore, washed his hand to an ungrateful son.
Hei Mei went mental. She said that she will go back to their village and will announce to the neighbours how Hauguang got his money and while living in the lap of luxury, he disowned his first born son.
Huaguang was raging and called Ziqui who knew nothing about it. Huaguang told him that Hei Mei was pestering him for money to give to Ziqui.
Ziqui could not believe her parents using him as a pawn against each other. She went to Heimei’s salon, which was closed already, followed by Jian Jian and Ling Xiao.
Poor Ziqui was absolutely heartbroken with what was happening with his life. Then Jian Jian came to him with his missing slipper and gently wiped off the dirt and grit from his foot before putting his slipper on him.
He just had to hug her because he felt that she was the only one on his side.
Ling Xiao, Jian Jian, and Ziqui were shocked when Hei Mei and Haichao with sleeping Dongdong in his arms turned up.
Episode 30
Omg! This episode is the rehabilitation of the character image of Hei Mei. They are making her to be some sort of a martyr for abandoning Ziqui.
Nope, I don’t buy it. Heimei was a con-artist, much too inferior for the saintly Haichao.
Perhaps they are trying to make Heimei more likable so she could be the token love interest for Haichao; they will get married and therefore this will have a closure to Ziqui’s wish of being in the family register of the Lis.
Nope, that storyline will ruin this excellent drama. It would make it too shmaltzy, there are already too many coincidences as it is, e.g. the both Ziqui and Ling Xiao was abandoned by their mothers almost at the same time, Both left to go abroad to be with their real family, they then both stayed abroad for nine years, and then they both mind-bogglingly turned up at the same time.
I would rather see Haichao and Heping retiring and doing a lads’ holiday. Going fishing, traveling, and looking forward to their grandchildren.
As Jian Jian said, her father is getting old.
Haichao needs rest and relaxation for his bad back due to years of kneading, cooking, crouching, etc. He should not be looking after Dongdong in his time of life and dealing with the cold face Heimei.
Anyway, I said my peace.
As I said this episode is mainly about Heimei who said that she went to Shenzhen with the intention of sending for Ziqui when she had found herself a job.
She found a job in a beauty counter and man trouble as well.
Her manager wanted a relationship with her which she said she did not like. The man’s wife was so upset she went to make a scene at work, slapped Heimei in public.
The manager then sacked her but her trouble did not stop there because the wife continued to harass her by graffitying the block of flats where Heimei was living. She was daubbed a husband grabber. Her landlady told her to leave and to find herself a single man instead of snatching other women’s husbands.
That was during the first year, what about the other 19 years? She did not think of her son at all.
Ziqui confronted her, she can see how she messed him up mentally. The boy has abandonment issues and Heimei does not acknowledge this seriously. Instead she was letting her friend convinced her to forgive herself of what happened twenty years ago, apparently it was not her fault, it was beyond her control.
Instead, she needs to find her own happiness. Whatttt?
Then they talked about who can be their best victim. They agreed that it can only be Haichao because he is single and kind and could look after Dongdong and Heimei. Bitches… LOL
Meanwhile, Heping got back from his two-months stake-out or seminar. Haichao told him about LingXiao and Jian Jian.
Heping couldn’t be happier. He said he had always hope that they could be a real family together. But he noticed that Haichao was not as enthusiastic as he is. He asked Haichao if he thinks Ling Xiao is not good enough for Jian Jian?
Haichao immediately dismissed the idea. He said that Chen Ting does not like Jian Jian and he would not let anyone bully his daughter.
Heping understood but said that Chen Ting is in Singapore.
Zhuang Bei invited Mingyue for coffee. He then said that he had something to say to her but he was too shy to say it so he asked her to read the text he was sending.
She read it as she sits in front of him. She was shocked and scandalised because she did not expect that it was a confession of love.
She told him that he was out of the line, how could he confess to her when he knew that Tang Can, who has a massive crush on him, is her best friend.
Poor Mingyue was dithering at the doorstep of their apartment block, too nervous to go in as she feels guilty about Tang Can.
She was still in two minds about whether to go in when Jian Jian and Ling Xiao saw her.
Ling Xiao read the situation that the two girls needed a little privacy so he left them to it.
Jian Jian advised her to tell Tang Can everything upfront and dragged her to their flat.
Episode 31
This episode is more about Mingyue and Tang Can.
As Tang Can said the one she likes like Mingyue while the one Mingyue likes like Jian Jian. Therefore she is the sorriest of them all.
Tang Can was indeed feeling sorry for herself because she went to an audition talk with a producer and director. All they wanted was to see her back. She then learned that the role they were offering her was an stand-in fro Sun Yi who hurt her back so she couldn’t do the stunt which she insisted on doing.
Tang Can felt aggrieved. She had just accepted that she may not get lead roles but being a stand-in was just too much for her to take.
She decided she needed a change and asked her father if the museum job was still available.
Meanwhile, Mingyue was feeling suffocated. She feels like she was in a cocoon which somehow can’t break through. It made more aggrieved when her mother showed her brochure for new flat being built near their house. Her mother wanted her to put her name on.
She said that she cannot afford it but her mother said they will pay the 50% downpayment.
When she spoke to her father, he said not to do as they don’t have the money really.
Now the three girls are comparing notes who has the sorriest life. Jian Jian said that she feels sorry for her father. He is getting old.
Episode 32
Cheng Tin with Chengzi are back in China and did not wait to spread bad vibes to Ling Xiao and the family. Everyone was worried how Ling Xiao might be feeling and can’t wait for mother and daughter to return to Singapore.
And they are right to be concerned because Ling Xiao had another episode of hearing the complaining voice of his mother. Thank goodness, Jian Jian knew how he would be feeling as she turned up and slipped into bed with Ling Xiao.
Jian Jian told him to empty his mind, don’t think of anything, rest because if a comet collided with earth at least he had a goodnight slip.
This is all Ling Xiao needed to hear from dearest person in his life to be able to go to sleep.
Boring He Lan and He Meil had a tete a tete. It turned out that Dong Dong is not He Mei’s son. He is a son of a former employee of Hemei who ended up in prison for killing her husband after years of domestic violence.
Dong Dong, the poor neglected boy, went missing but ended up in the police station. As Hei Mei doesn’t have the necessary paperwork to prove that she was Dong Dong’s parent, Hemei called Haichao for help as he knew a police officer that could probably sort out the mess.
Hai Chao with Heping found out about Hemei’s lies. And HaiChao being a sucker of lies and pretty face, quickly took Hemei and Dongdong to his house and got the whole story from Hemei.
Meanwhile, Chen Ting is not leaving any place sacred for Ling Xiao. She and Chengzi turned up at his place of work with some goodies for the staff.
He then toured them around until late. When he got back, Jian Jian was waiting for him in his room. He told her to go back to her place.
She asked if he could sleep without her, he confessed that when she first sleep over she moved so much in her sleep, she kicked him awake. LOL
Episode 33
Mingyue got caught between her parents’ disagreement over helping her pay for her flat. Her father said that it was out of order. They can’t afford to pay for it as he was nearing retirement age and need to save for themselves.
Her mother however said she will pay for it.
They started arguing until divorce was mentioned.
Finally, Tang Can seemed to please her parents when she decided to work in the museum. They encouraged her to go further by taking the Civil Servant exam for next year.
Du Juan was beginning to wise up on her scumbag boyfriend who she found out went on a blind date.
It was Ling Xiao’s 27th birthday and Cheng Tin threw him a party inviting the family.
Ziqui opted not to show up because he was already insulted earlier that day when the cake he baked for Ling Xiao was forcefully paid and collected by Chengzi.
Cheng Tin queened it during the dinner party and made veiled insult to both Haichao and Hepeng. It was a very uncomfortable event and everyone was happy for it to end.
But not before Chengzi told Jian Jian was wasting her time with her brother because her mother does not like her.
The she said she doesn’t like Jian Jian herself.
Jian Jian said, “whatever, I don’t like you very much either.”
Ling Xiao kept asking his mother when they were returning to Singapore so he can book their a tickets.
Thank goodness, his birthday started well with a present of Nike Air from Jian Jian and ended with the two closest to him, Jian Jian and Ziqui.
He thought that Ziqui would have been upset but there he was he had another smaller cake for his birthday just for the three of them. He looked fondly as his brother Ziqui who does not have any bad bone in his body.
HaiChao was truly hooked. He kept thinking of Hei Mei who finally confessed tearfully that she did not send for Ziqui during the early days because she was in prison for four years for manslaughter when she accidentally pushed a hyper lady who ended up cracking her skull on a concrete step.
Ziqui visited his sponger aunt He Lan who encouraged him to make up with his mother. HeMei gave He Lan money.
Episode 34
Ziqui learned Heimei story from He Lan including being in prison for manslaughter.
Thinking that Ziqui will be upset, both Jian Jian and Ling Xiao raced to find him.
When they did find him, he is upset not because of how Heimei left him but the lost time that he could have had with her but then again, he said he had a great childhood.
He then asked Jian Jian if she was always into Ling Xiao from the moment she first saw him. Ziqui realised in hindsight that Jian Jian was always hanging around Ling Xiao and the sight and mention of Ling Xiao always made her eyes megawatt.
This tickled Ling Xiao so much that when he was alone with Jian Jian he said to her, “Let’s get married.”
“I’ll make money and buy you a house.” he continued.
Jian Jian, however, changed the subject immediately. She said she doesn’t need a house, she’d rather eat fruits as she chewed on another slice of peach.
Poor Ling Xiao was gutted.
Meanwhile, he was not the only one who got disappointed.
Mingyue and her mother got disappointed with one another.
Mrs Qi thought that Minyue was studying for the civil servant exam but found out that she did not even make a start. The books she gave Mingyue were as pristine as the day when she gave them to her.
Then they had their confrontation.
Mingyue said that she does not want to take the civil servant exam. She wanted to be a journalist.
But her mother said that she needed something that would see her through her life and being a civil servant would be the answer.
It then came out that Mingyue purposely failed the mock exam to the college entrance so does not have to study Political Science and become a lawyer/prosecutor as her mother had wanted.
This ended with a real rupture between the mother and daughter.
Mrs Qi said that she will cancel the apartment and she can now do whatever she wants.
Mrs Qi left furious and upset but I have to say her power to buckle up the complicated straps on her highheels took her less than a minute. What a superwoman!!!
Finally, Mingyue sent her application to study journalism in Beijing. She said that she would still pay the rent so she has a place to return to.
Meanwhile, Zhaung Bei seemed to be seesawing between Mingyue and Tang Can. They were encouraging him to pursue Mingyue but he was more attentive towards Tang Can, who said she was over him.
Episode 35
Chen Ting dropped a bombshell. She decided to stay and live in China, practically in their doorsteps, in their residential quarters. And she wanted Ling Xiao and Chengzi to stay with her.
Poor Ling Xiao was having his dark moment and he had to go hug JIan Jian to get out of the black thoughts he gets whenever Chen Ting messes with his head.
Even Chengzi can’t take their mother’s sneaky and mecurial attitude anymore and decided to stay with Ling Xiao, who made her stay in the girls’ apartment.
The girls though are wary of the temperamental girl. Chengzi is very anti-social and yet she does not get it why people tend to be cautious of her.
But it seems Ziqui is the one who can control her because he won’t take any of her crap. He told her that Jian Jian is the cutest member of their family and she can see that he meant it.
Whether he meant it or just joking, Ling Xiao asked if Jian Jian would sleep with him that night.
Both Ziqui and Chengzi were shocked.
Ziqui said that nothing that kind would be happening, otherwise, he will report it to their Dad.
Jian Jian just laughed it off, saying that Ling Xiao was joking.
Chengzi said that she bet they’ve already slept together.
Ziqui was so shocked and told her that she has got a sewer mouth and if he hears her saying things like that again, he would smack her face.
Heping met up with Chen Ting. He told her that their son has some mental problems and that he was currently on medication for depression and insomnia.
He was surprised that Chen Ting seemed to have not noticed. But he told her that the best medicine for Ling Xiao is Jian Jian so whatever issues Chen Ting has with Jian Jian, she must overcome it for the sake of their son.
Heping was really worried about Ling Xiao. He went to see his son at the dentist and went out to lunch. They finally had a heartfelt talk where Ling Xiao admitted that he had always admired his father for being a policeman. They really had a loving male bonding. Heartwarming.
I have to say that Song Wei Long has caught up with Seven and Steven in the acting department. Wei Long was really giving his all in this drama and you can see and feel it.
I think this is my favourite drama for 2020.
Episode 36
This is a very hectic episode.
Mingyue learned that her dad was now determined to divorce her mother after putting up for so long on her dictatorial ways.
Chengzi was told by Ziqui that she was talking space at his restaurant so he suggested for her to go back to her mother or work in his restaurant. She opted for the later and Ziqui was like a proud father when he saw that the spoilt Chengzi could behave like a reasonable human being given half the chance.
Meanwhile, Cheng Tin is not giving up easily in trying to control Ling Xiao. She came again to visit the dental clinic and quizzed Dr XiXi if she’s already got a boyfriend.
Dr Xixi thought told Cheng Tin that Ling Xiao is already taken by Jian Jian.
Ling Xiao took his mother to lunch and told her point blank that he was going to marry Jian Jian. His mother said that it was his decision but how could he marry when neighter has a house nor even a car. She told him to wait for next year when she could sell her flat in Singapore and buy him a flat.
Speaking of Jian Jian, her career as a sculptor met a bit of a hiccough. Her university newspaper had printed an article from her senior accusing her of plagiarism. He said that her sculpture of ‘Family’ was copied from his work released four months earlier.
Everyone in the know, believed her because they know her story with her two pseudo-brothers which is so close they were like brothers and sisters.
Du Juan told her to go home as she looked all done in.
In the meantime, Cheng Tin with her sister were at the doorstep of Ling Xiao and Ziqui’s flat. She called Ling Xiao for the passcode but he refused to give it to her. But she said not to worry as Jian Jian was just approaching.
This was enough for Ling Xiao to race back home.
Jian Jian made some tea and sliced fruit for Cheng Tin and Auntie. Cheng Tin was not at all grateful and told Jian Jian to go about her work and leave.
Jian Jian was lying on the sofa having a bit of a cry from the shitty day she had when Ling Xiao suddenly appeared.
He saw that she had been crying and told her to stay put and not to come to his flat.
He went for his mother. He told his mother that she could put him and Chengzi to all manner of humiliation but Jian Jian is his bottom line, he would not allow even one sentence that would upset Jian Jian.
Jian Jian heard this and suddenly realised that Ling Xiao misunderstood the reason she was crying. But he was already in the full force of letting his mother know how he really feels.
Cheng Tin said that he if treated his sister half as well as he dotes on Jian Jian, his sister would have not been as rebellious. All he cared about is Jian Jian, his father, and their neighbours.
Ling Xiao said, “Because they love me!” He then asked? “Why don’t you love me?”
He then went to Jian Jian and hugged her tightly as if his life depended on it.
Chengzi warned Jian Jian not to sleep with her brother because if she does it would be embarrassing if she meets her brother someday. She reasoned that Cheng Tin will never allow marriage between Jian Jian and her brother.
Heimei was completely rehabilitated. She and Haichao are flirting up a storm and pursuing each other. Enough said!
Episode 37
Ling Xiao hugged Jian Jian for the longest time, not because he was comforting her but he was getting strenght from her. He told her that next time she sees his mother, she was stay away from her.
Jian Jian said that she can’t do that because Cheng Tin will hate her more. They should still respect her because she is his mother.
Ling Xiao said that if you want respect then you should at least be respectable.
Cheng Tin was still in Ling Xiao’s flat with her sister feeling sorry for herself. Her sister did not help at all; infact she was inciting Cheng Tin to break up Ling Xiao and Jian Jian. The sister said that if Ling Xiao ends up with Jian Jian, she will never see her son anymore.
Parents, eh!!!
Mingyue had to beg and audience from her mother who was absolutely livid that she was being left behind by both her daughter and her husband, who wanted a divorce.
Finally, Ling Xiao found out the real reason why Jian Jian was crying. She explained about her senior accusing her of plagiarising his work.
Zhuran called and said that they will need the photo she based her sculpture to roast their lying senior.
So they were in the hunt to find the photo.
Their first stop was coffee at Ziqui’s restaurant where Chengzi is enjoying her joy.
Ling Xiao said that he can’t remember where his copy of the was but Chengzi interrupted and told the truth, the sorry sad truth of Ling Xiao’s life in Singapore with their disturbed mother.
Chen Ting has a pathological hatred of her ex-husband and Jian and her family.
Ling Xiao came home one day to see his sister being so bothered. He then found out they their mother threw away the pair of sneakers Jian Jian gifted him which he treasured more than anything and not only that she was cutting all the photos from China from his beloved photo album.
Ling Xiao rushed out of the flat to at find his sneakers because he was going to lose his mind completely.
A very worried Chengzi chased after him and told him that he secretly took back his trainers from the bin and hid them in her backpack. This is such an emotional scene, very dark. Song Wei Long is doing really great.
So it was left to Ziqui to find his copy. He called his bio-dad and asked to send him his photo album he left in the house.
His bio-dad said he will do it but with a condition. Ziqui had to visit his dying grandpa a couple of times. Ziqui was given by his bio-dad a million RBM which Ziqui wanted to return but his bio-dad to keep it as he deserves it.
Meanwhile, Zhuang Bei realised that he was really attracted to Tang Can but she said she was over him. Now, Zhuang Bei was doing everything he can for Tang Can including getting her an interview with the director of a stage play.
Episode 38
Chengzi (Little Orange) finally moved out to move in with her mother.
Cheng Tin is as paranoid as ever and said that Chengzi had been brainwashed.
Chengzi said that Ling Xiao, Ziqui, Jian Jian and the rest of the family are too busy with everyday life to talk about Cheng Tin, much less to plot against her.
For some reason, Du Juan’s boyfriend Zhou Miao, was taking the plagiarism personally and had the gall to tell off Jian Jian about being so calm with the trouble she landed the company in.
He told Du Juan that she should leave the company and work with him as he will he graduating the following year.
Du Juan was even more troubled.
Mingyue got caught between the battle for divorce between her mother and father.
The father said that he could not take any more of the controlling habit of his wife and felt suffocated and, therefore, to get out, i.e. divorce is his only way out.
Mingyue said that as much as she sympathisers with his father, her mother’s controlling attitude was partly his fault. He made and encouraged her to be that way. He never said or really contradict his wife, he just stayed quiet and let her get on with it.
Becasue he knew that despite his wife ruling the roost, she did it very well. She did the housework, she works, she did childcare and everything else.
Her father avoided strife for a quiet peaceful life.
And now that they are getting older, he just wanted to leave a ‘monster’ he created.
Jian Jian and Ziqui learned that Haichao and Heimei are getting closer. Jian Jian was all for it and told Ziqui that he will finally realised his dream of belonging to the Li family register if Heimei marries Haichao.
Ziqui was troubled. He said what if they did get together but Heimei ending up dumping Haichao again? He doesn’t think Haichao could get over being dumped the second time around by Heimei.
Jian Jian had to agree but will not completely give up because she convinced Ziqui that they should spy on Heimei and Haichao the next day.
Tang Can and Zhuang Bei are being best buddies, although Zhuang Bei wanted to be more but Tang Can kept saying that she was over him and being best friends are the best for them.
Mingyue had a talk with Zhuang Bei to apologise for how she treated him after he confessed to her.
Episode 39
Mingyue had her distraught mother stay for the night at her apartment.
Her mother asked her if she hated her as well like her father hates her.
Mingyue truthfully said, “yes’ sometimes.” She then asked if her mother hates her.
Her mother just plainly said, ‘You are my life.’
After a while, Mingyue promised her that she will look after her mother after Beijing because, her mother is her life as well.
It is a different case for Ling Xiao’s mother, who had a housewarming party and invited only Xixi, who became rather uncomfortable to learn about it.
During the dinner, Xixi excused herself to go to the loo and while she was out of the way, Cheng Tin complained of Ling Xiao’s long face.
He said to Cheng Tin to stop whatever she was doing; if she was matchmaking then forget it because he has a girlfriend already.
Cheng Tin said that she does not mind if he has a girlfriend as long as it is not Jian Jian. She apparently tried to like Jian Jian but she just couldn’t do it.
Ling Xiao told Cheng Tin that she doesn’t have to like Jian Jian. But when Cheng Tin said she hated Jian Jian. He then left furiously and the dinner became more uneasy for poor Xixi.
Tang Can told her parents that she will be an actress again in a stage play. She had chucked in her job at the museum.
Meanwhile, Jian Jian was treating both Du Juan and Zheng Zhuran to dinner. It was a long story.
Du Juan both called Jian Jian and Zhou Miao to have a talk. She asked Jian Jian if she can produce the copy of the photo which was the inspiration of her ‘Two Brother’s sculpture.
Jian Jian less than committed with just a maybe, which only fired up Zhou Miao and started berating Jian Jian for plagiarising. His holier than thou attitude was so apparent as he continued on that Jian Jian should not make a habit of copying other people’s work and then said that she should should the repercussion of her plagiarism into their business and should alone foot the penalty from their furniture commission.
Surprisingly, Du Juan moved seat and sat next to Jian Jian. Du Juan then said that she was firing Zhou Miao from the business and breaking up with him as her boyfriend.
She continued that she totally believed in Jian Jian, who had been so kind to allow Zhou Miao to stay even before the problems occured. Du Juan said that Jian Jian tolerated Zhou Miao because he was Du Juan’s company.
And she is not mortified that Zhou Miao was overstepping his role in the company.
Jian Jian was overwhelmed with Du Juan’s loyalty to her.
She said that she foresees a next boyfriend for Du Juan coming from the garden rather than the garbage truck.
Du Juan said she will never get a boyfriend again, to which Jian Jian countered with Du Juan saying the same thing regarding another boyfriend in the past.
Ziqui, the ever-faithful and loyal brother braved his unknown relatives to see his grandpa. There he saw his bio-dad who took him for coffee.
Ziqui returned a cash card to his bio-dad containing the million he gave Ziqui.
His bio-dad told him to keep it. But Ziqui said that his Dad told him not to accept money from just anyone.
His bio-dad commented that Ziqui had never once treated him as a father.
Ziqui said that he first met him when he was 18 and father bonding was impossible by then.
But he said though he does not see him as his father, he was still grateful that he is his bio-dad because he found out that there is another side to his bio-dad. He was very filial and caring to his own father.
This somehow lessened the snub he got from Ziqui and the most thing that he wanted to hear was that he was finally acknowledged by Ziqui as his father.
Bio-dad then sent a copy of the photo that Ziqui wanted.
Ziqui sent it immediately to Zheng Zhuran who did a long diatribe against Yifei, who he found out was the real serial plagiarise.
Jian Jian and Du Juan are so relieve and took Zhuran out to dinner.
Meanwhile, Heimei told on shy Haichao that they are dating. And Jian Jian approved and so did Ziqui quietly.

Episode 40- The Finale
Xixi put Cheng Tin in the picture that she only ever see Ling Xiao as a brother after she read how Jian Jian and Ling Xiao were always meant to be from a trending blog, which was written by Jian Jian herself.
Xixi said that it would be cruel if something gets in the way on the relationship between the two. Xixi then forwarded a link of the blog to Cheng Tin.
In the backdrop of thunder and lightning, Cheng Tin started to read the blog and recalled the things that she savagely put Ling Xiao into. Telling him that he killed his sister, not allowing him to keep their only family photo, abandoning him, then suddenly showed up to force her presence to him then making him be responsible for her care and that of Chengzi for nine years, thus robbing him of a carefree young adult life.
The guilt ate her up so she started writing her suicide note.
The next day, Jian Jian was looking after Ling Xiao who had a hungover from his dinner/drink up with his father the previous night.
Ziqui was ecstatic and can’t help but brag about Heimei waiting for him outside work with an umbrella so he would not be rained on.
Jian JIan told him to pipe it down but Ziqui cheekily said that they told him before not to bottle things up, just let it all out.
They were still arguing when there was a knock on the door. It was Chengzi who was so burdened.
Chengzi said that Cheng Tin had gone and left a suicide note.
A shocked Ling Xiao read the note and I must say I did not shed a tear.
Yang Tong Shu as Cheng Tin was such a good actress, she made Cheng Tin so hateful but she remained rather elegantly beautiful and aloof.
So as she voiced over the content of her suicide letter, I was so unmoved because of how she cruelly treated Ling Xiao.
She did not die but she almost drowned and had a lung infection. She was saved by two fishermen.
Ling Xiao was there when she woke and told her that he was glad that she survived because if she had died the pain of her viciousness towards him would linger throughout his life.
And her being alive would somehow make up for it as long as she is repentant. He likened the situation to something she told him when he was still a young boy: it was like a boil when all the pus had gone, it will then start to heal. Good analogy!
A month later…
Cheng Tin and Chengzi were all packed and ready to leave for Singapore for good.
Heping was there to help Cheng Tin to take her belongings into the waiting car. But beforehand, he apologised to her for not being supportive enough as a husband and not recognising that she was suffering from PTSD after the death of Yunyan, their daughter.
Yeah, yeah! PTSD is a very convenient excuse for Cheng Tin’s evilness, seriously scriptwriters?!!!
Somehow, Cheng Tin had made up with Jian Jian and she told her that she was leaving Ling Xiao on her hands.
Jian JIan said that she will make him happy.
Ling Xiao said that he and Jian Jian will visit them during the spring festival (New Year).
After seeing the car pull away, Ziqui, Ling Xiao and Jian Jian raced to their next event to attend to.
The wedding of Heimei and Haichao.
Ziqui was in the car with Heimei and told her that Dad Li is a good man and would look after her. The good son of Dad Li that he is, Ziqui beseeched Heimei to be good to Dad Li.
Then they had a family photo which included Heping because he will be part of the family officially once Jian Jian and Ling Xiao marries.
Again, where is poor Dongdong?
The other characters:
Tang Can was doing well with her stage play and looking forward excitedly but with tremendous trepidition to the opening night.
Mingyue was letting go of her beloved fish to the nearby pond as she was imminently to leave for Beijing.
Mingyue’s mom seemed to have transferred her overly nurturing motherly love to the nervous Tang Can and Jian Jian.
Chengzi loved Ziqui as much as she loves Ling Xiao. Actually, she found real brotherly/sibling love from Ziqui rather than with Ling Xiao.
Unlike Ling Xiao, Ziqui did not take Chengzi’s crap and told her off when she was bad and explained to her that she should be kinder because it begets kindness. She promised Ziqui that she will come to visit him. Nooooo. I hope they would not end up together.
And Ziqui himself – he decided to move his restaurant to a more viable location so he could make proper expensive but delicious desserts again; after all, he is a dessert chef.
Now I sort of understood why the women made to appear deviant and rather horrible at first. It was probably to show how their nurturing or lack thereof will mold their children somehow.
Jian Jian being motherless is wild and tomboyish, she says everything that comes to her head and yet doesn’t play mind games because she grew up with fathers and brothers who were all WYSIWYG. LOL
Mingyue is indecisive and lacks confidence but with good manners because of her controlling mother.
Tang Can is almost like Mingyue but she was aching to be loved because of parents who saw her mainly as a cash cow and a possession.
Ziqui always felt a sense of abandonment because Heimei abandoned him when young and not showed up for 20 years because she thought she was doing him a favour for not involving him in her rather murky past.
Ling Xiao is depressive, insomniac, rather clingy, and ultra-sensitive because he was mentally and physically abused by the madwoman, Cheng Tin.
I must say I saw a lot of behind the scenes in youtube and I have to say that the young director was so good. He was able to convey every little detail. He was friendly but firm so he was able to get the best out of all the cast and it showed in this beautifully crafted drama.

After Pretty Man 2, Dylan Xiong and Lai Yu Meng are back with another drama.
Yan Zhao was away in Australia for further studies and had gotten himself a job as well. He is rather a lonely character. He said that he was happier when he was submerged in the water because then he can think, he can hear his thoughts.
He was starting to develop expertise in his field of work when his father ordered him to come back to China.
It seems his father was living with the mother of Xiaomeng, so Xiaomeng is his love interest as well as his step-sister? Yuck.
Anyway when he returned to China the first person he went to see was Xiaomeng who was now working as a popular child television presenter/storyteller.
She was so happy to see Yan Zhao but the their respected parents seemed uncomfortable with their rather intimate relationship.
Anyway, Yan zhao’s father had told him to start working at the company but Yan Zhao had other ideas. He told his father that he would prefer to work in other companies first so he could gain more experience.
Unfortuanately his father who was ailing had ensured that Yan Zhou does not get hired by anyone.
It was during their confrontation when Chairman Zhao (Father) received a telephone call from Wan Youhe,, a disgruntled man who was out for revenge, that he had kidnapped Xiaomeng and wanted a ransom of 1M.
Yan Zhao said that they had to call the police, which was initially declined by his father but Yan Zhao explained that Wan Youhe was not after the ransom money, he wanted revenge.
Omigod! You must not watch this drama if you are starving because you might start gnawing the inside of your mouth.
The food looked so delicious and easy to do.
Anyway, young Hua Xiao Mai went to live with her married sister and her brother in law.
Xiao Mai likes foraging in the forest and river for fresh ingredients.
One day she was grilling some prawns, mushroom, and fish all fresh from the nearby river and woods when she spied a cluster of orange cup mushroom near a ravine.
Xiao Mai did not have a second thought she must have the mushrooms, which almost caused her death when she slipped and started falling to her death or serious injuries if a rather gorgeous guy who is a martial artist had flown out of nowhere to save her.
He held her for the longest time and she was equally fascinated with him and his chest that she started touching him.
He asked her what she was doing and she asked him in return why he was still holding her.
He let her go immediately and she ended on the ground with a tump.
He supposed that she wanted the orange cup mushrooms. He flew up and gathered them quickly and gave them all to her.
The gorgeous guy noticed the smoke coming out near the river bank and went there immediately. He quickly put out the fire and kicked the food she was grilling.
She was so annoyed with but he said that she was so thoughtless in starting a fire in the forest when it was the dry season.
He then left riding his equally handsome black horse.
Suddenly her annoyance abetted because he was so stunning astride his horse.
Xiao Mai was just getting home when she heard whispers about some people who were so useless that they infringed themselves on others.
Xiao Mai met an old man (grandpa) who told her that whatever she hears, don’t listen to it. He also said to tell her sister not to send him any more pudding. He made her promise to tell her sister.
Xiao Mai asked grandpa if he knew of a man of about 23 and who is an expert martial artist?
Granpa said there was a young man called Yu Hauai of the Meng Family in the East Village.
Her sister was so annoyed with her when she finally got home. She had been so worried.
When it was dinnertime, her sister asked her to sit at the dinner table with the kind brother in law.
She really did not want to eat the food her sister cooked because they were horrible and uncooked.
Her sister always scolds her but she was quite caring about Xiao Mai.
She told Xiao Mai to take a packed lunch to her brother in law, who works as a blacksmith.
She was almost there when she heard someone said Yu Huai.
She climbed up the wall by the gate to just see if the Yu Huai was the same guy she met the other day.
He was and he say her looking which caused her to fall.
Her brother in law was so concerned, he brought her back home.
Her sister was so concerned for her and told her to have a rest while she cooked as she had told her husband to invite his friends at the blacksmith for dinner.
Xiao Mai was doubtful that her sister will be able to provide an edible meal so she told her sister the truth that she was a terrible cook.
She then took off her sister’s apron and she started making stuffed pancake which looked so delicious I will try to make them.
Then she made the most mouthwatering Dongko Pork. Again so good.
Her brother in law arrived with his friends and one said after he found out that Xiao Mai will be a permanent fixture in the young couple’s life that it must be hard to have another mouth to feed. He kept going on and on about it that Er Qiao (sister) got annoyed.
Then the cooked food turned up and it was so good they should have been Instagrammed.
Xiao Mai who did not want to sit with the guests was forced by her sister to join in.
Everyone said that her cooking was so good, it was better than any restaurant around.
I love the story and the food.
Episode 2
I love this drama mainly for the food. The recipe had been made to look easy to follow It makes you want to try cooking.
I really love this series, very underrated. Good script as well and the cinematography is fantastic. The leads are endearing.
Anyway Yu Huai saved Xiao Mai again in the forest when she was yet again foraging for mushrooms. He jokingly said to her that she seemed to fall over every time she sees him.
She shyly said that it was an accident.
He escorted her down the mountain when they met Guan Rong, who was obviously in love with Yu Huwai.
To make sure that Xiao Mae is not in Huai’s face all the time, Guan Rong started taking interest in Xiao Mai and would visit and be rather helpful to her.
Guan Rong volunteered to help Xiao Mai sell preserved bamboo shoots.
At first it was hard going to sell the preserved bamboo shoots but a young lady from Lianshan Bodyguard Agency saw how good her bamboo shoots were, she offered to buy them but it had to be approved by her master.
When they got to the agency, the master called Yu Huai to see the goods.
Yu Huai recognised her immediately and the master teased that perhaps Xiao Mei is Yu Huai’s girlfriend.
Xiao Mei was rather annoyed with Yu Huai when he said that he hardly know her and she was only a little sister to him.
She priced her goods on the tad high and she would not change her mind but Yu Huai convinced the boss that the preserved shoots will be worth the money and Xiao Mei is a fantastic cook.
The master requested Xiao Mei to cook lunch for the barracks.
Her cooking was a hit with everyone.
Episode 4
She was invited by Mr Qiao for his annual dinner festival to do the cooking.
He has already a chef who was very dismissive of the young Xiao Mei.
The regular chef decided to cater to the more illustrious guests while Xiao Mei will feed the peasants.
The honoured guests how much the peasants were enjoying their meal. One got curious and joined the peasants’ table. He was in ecstasy especially when he tasted the Supreme Soup.
Before you know it everyone was on the same table fighting over the food.
Mr Qiao paid her handsomely and also gave her 200 coins to pass to Guan Rong as her agent.
Xiao Mai was a bit uneasy the Guan Rong was profiting from her.
Xiao Mai was on her way home when she was abducted. Her abducted was the chef who did not take kindly to being shown off.
Yu Huai was there to save her and they had the cutest moment.
To show her gratitude, she kissed him on the cheek briefly which shocked him and excited him at the same time. So cute.
Mr Ping An, who was a guest at Mr Qiao’s spring dinner, came to see Xiao Mei and her sister to do business, He proposed to sell her cookies in the city.
Episode 5
Master Zhao, the son of the chief of the Bodyguard agency almost got duped by a spice merchant.
Good thing the nosy Hua Xiao Mai was around and saw that half of the star anises were the 10 petalled Japanese variety which is poisonous.
Master Zhao was very grateful and Yu Huai couldn’t be more proud.
Episode 6
Mr Ping’an is becoming a regular buyer of Xiao Mai’s cooking. He now wanted to try to sell her sauces.
Guan Rong had come to visit Xiao Mai again and asked her to accompany her to visit Grandma Sun for her famous dessert soup. But Gua Rong was actually wanted to gossip with Xiao Mai about Yu Huai’s mother who had been looking for a potential bride for her son.
Mr Ping’an came to collect the sauces and inadvertently mentioned about Xiao Mai becoming a good mother one day.
This was heard by her sister who became stroppy.
She asked the town elder who told her that her sister had been married for three years and yet had failed to conceive.
The town elder told her to bring her sister to the town doctor because Hua Dou Village doctor was a bit of a quack.
The next morning, Xiao Mai pretended that she had the most excruciating stomach pain and can’t manage to get up.
Her sister insisted to taking her to see a doctor but Hua Xiao Mai said that she heard the village doctor was no good so what was the point.
Her sister said that they will see another doctor in town.
They saw the doctor who immediately understood what was happening. After having a look at Xiao Mai, he also insisted to examine Er Qiao.
He told her that she needed to take her medication to balance her ying. She also needed to consult him on a monthly basis. After a year she should be ready to conceive.
I really love the relationship between the sisters. They look after another, which is very heartwarming.
After seeing Grandma Sun, Xiao Mai also wanted to open her stall by the riverside.
At first, her sister was not happy with her plan thinking that her sister is overworking. She said they have enough to live, she does not have to work full time.
But in the end, her sister supported her all the way.
Yu Huai came from his duty and went to see Xiao Mai immediately. At first she was rather wary of him after hearing that he was to be married soon. But he remained the kind and handsome guy that he was that she told him about her plan for a stall.
Yu Huai designed one for her and gave it to her brother-in-law. Who created a stall from the design.
Yu Huai went to see Mistress Meng, his mother, who told him that she met the perfect girl for him. Yu Huai was so annoyed. He told her rather enigmatically that he had already had plans for it.
Episode 7
Xiao Mai’s food stall became very popular.
Guan Rong came to visit and without being asked, she started helping in the eatery. Xiao Mai tried to stop her but she continued to help.
She presented herself as the hostess.
Xiao Mai told her sister about her problem with Guan Rong.
Her sister turned up and told Guan Rong that they don’t need her to help out because she was helping her sister.
Episode 8
Her sister saw the village elder who asked her if Guan Rong was an investor to the Xiao Mai’s food stall.
Apparently Guan Rong had been implying that she was Xiao Mai’s co-founder at the food stall had was then squeezed out as the eatery was getting more popular.
The elder said that Guan Rong and family are a bad lot and they should stay away from them.
Er Qiao realised the predicament her sister was in so she asked her friends to help her make something clear about Guan Rong to end the gossip.
Episode 9
So Er Qiao especially invited Guan Rong to eat at the food stall .
With the people in there, Guan Rong was forced to confess that she had nothing to do with the food stall.
Xiao Mai should have been happy after this, but she heard that Yu Huai was missing after his group had been ambushed by bandits.
Suddenly she can’t concentrate of her food business.
Guan Rong also heard the news and went immediately to Mistress Meng to report that her son was missing and maybe dead.
Mistress Meng collapsed.
Episode 10
Xiao Mai was worried and missing Yu Huai so much. Then she sort of felt and then really heard a horse coming. She knew immediately that Yu Huai is coming back.
And he was,
Xiao Mai immediately brought him home to see her worried sister and brother-in-law.
Xiao Mai’s cooking prowess was becoming well known and she was even being recruited by the owner of An Tai Garden.
Episode 11
The merchant who provides An Tai Garden Restaurant with sauces went looking for Xiao Mai for undercutting them. Xiao Mai did not know anything about this as she was selling her sauces to Mr Ping’an.
The merchant and his hood went to Er Qiao and husband’s house. But they are ready because Yu Huai heard about the gang looking for Xiao Mai.
After Yu Huai and his two friends who are bodyguards like him had beaten the gang, everything turned out to be a misunderstanding when the merchant heard that An Tai Garden wanted to hire her as chef. Apparently the merchant’s boss is a brother to the owner of the restaurant.
Despite a satisfying ending, Xiao Mai was again deep into more scandal.
She and her sister met Master Wen, an impoverished scholar, who encouraged her to help Mr Tan, whose restaurant in the city will be foreclosed if he loses a cooking contest.
Well Xiao Mai, encouraged by her sister helped Mr Tan and help him to delay paying his debt for another six months.
Guan Rong and her aunt saw how Mr Wen held on to Xiao Mai’s sleeves as he tried to convince her.
Before long Xiao Mai was being gossiped as dating Mr Wen.12
Episode 12
Though Yu Huai did not believe that Xiao Mai was dating Mr Wen, he went to see Xioa Mai, who of course laughed at the gossip and denied that she was seeing the poor scholar.
Yu Hai was helping her close her food stall for the day when Mr Wen turned up. He said that he heard the gossip. He admitted that it was partly his fault but he will take responsibility towards her. He will marry though she was only a cook.
This infuriated Xiao Mai. She asked him disbelievingly that he actually thought that she was not good enough for him. She was ready to beat him up herself but Yu Huai intervened and was going to beat Mr Wen if the other man did not look so scared.
Er Qiao found out who was spreading the gossip. It was Guan Rong and her aunty but Guan Rong said that she was partly to blame but it was her aunt who had been blabbing. Guan Rong did not know that her aunt heard what she said and hell broke loose.
Episode 13 – 14
Eight Delicacies Competition in the City and Xiao Mai went to participate as a member of the Wonderland Restaurant by Miss Song.
Xiao Mai immediately knew that she could not stay in the city because of the cutthroat atmosphere. She was very shocked when she found out that Miss Song would do anything to win the competition.
Luckily, Yu Huai wanted to be with Xiao Mai so much he hurried his job in time to see her.
Xiao Mai told him that she wanted to go back home and not stay in the city, it is not the place for her.
Yu Huai took her on a date.
By a romantic backdrop of flower lights in the ponds, Yu Huai told Xiao Mai to open her own restaurant.
She said that she intends to but she was short on funds at the moment.
Yu Huai said that he had been working as a bodyguard and had some savings. He will give it to her.
Xiao Mai asked if he was going to give her a loan?
Yu Huai slightly discomfited said that he hopes she will marry him. Awww
Xiao Mai was so shocked, she just stared at him.
Yu Huai suddenly did not know what to do. “You don’t want to marry me?”
Xiao Mai joyfully said “I do.”
Yu Huai can’t wait to take her home to talk to her sister to arrange their marriage.
They were lovey dovey all the way home but Xiao Mai said perhaps she has to speak to her sister first before announcing the marriage.
Her sister was so happy to see Xiao Mai and surprised that Yu Huai was there as well.
Anyway Xiao Mai said her goodbye to Yu Huai.
Inside her sister teased her so much, she could not tell her about the engagement.
But the next day, her brother in law suddenly came home from work to say that Yu Huai had asked permission to marry Xiao Mai.
So cute.
Episode 15
Yu Huai recommended a place for a restaurant for Xioa Mai.
The Hua family went to see it and loved it.
They worked very hard to make it really good as a restaurant.
Episode 16
Meng Hua and YU Huai have some sort of understanding that they were already together but Guan Rong was still to insinuate herself between them.
Guan Rong sent her mother to tell Yu Huai was very ill,
The gentleman that he is Yu Huai, followed by his mother, went to see what was wrong with Guan Rong, who cunningly made herself rather minimally attired in bed.
Guan Rong pretended to by hysterical when Yu Huai saw her and then her mother started screeching and begging Huai to take responsibility for Guan Rong who had been wronged.
Huai’s mother was having none of it and humiliated Guan Rong’s mother for being sneaky.
Meng Hua got to hear about Guan Rong trying to set Yu Huai up so Meng Hua went to find Yu Huai.
As soon as she found him she kissed him and then told him that he had to take responsibility for her because he kissed her.
Huai happily took her in his arms and kissed her back for the longest time.

Chef Han, the owner of the Jade Pavillion restaurant, challenged Xiao Mai to a cooking contest that got back to Yu Huai.
Yu Huai became rather jealous when he heard that Chef Han was rather dreamy (every girl’s dream, successful and a brilliant cook). He went to Xiao Mai’s restaurant where the contest was being held. He made sure that Chef Han knew that Xiao Mai was already taken.
The men’s posturing ended of them having a drinking contest themselves. They were so cute.
Yu Haui was so drunk but he still waited for Xiao Mai outside her sister’s house where she was visiting.
Yu Huai asked her if she wanted to move to the city to open a bigger restaurant. He was gratified to hear that Xiao Mai was not thinking about it because she wanted to stay where she was so she could spend the rest of her time forever with him. Ahhhhh
I am really loving this drama, to the point that I am addicted to it. Very underrated. Everyone would enjoy the food and the gentle romance between the two charismatic leads.
Episode 19
It was the Celebrity Banquet contest. Xiao Mai more or less had the prize in the bag because the judges are her admirers.
Now, having won the contest, she was having kittens because the most important ingredient to her gourmet recipe is not available.

Episode 30
I can honestly say that I would be rather upset when this drama had been fully subbed and over. I have loved every episode so far.
I admire the cast, there are great but most especially the lead, Tang MIn who is, of course, Chef Hua. She looked as if she could really cook.
I love the location and I am often blown by the food.
In this episode, the newly hired escort had been found out as a spy and working for the other Bodyguard agency in town. The spy and his cohorts were easily apprehended which cause the closure of the new agency.
It was the New Year and also the final appraisal and evaluation for Yun’er as a chef. She passed and was so overwhelmed with the gratitude for having been made as the chef in charge of their front yard take-out.
Episode 31
This episode is a bit sad and rather dramatic.
Yun’er has two admirers. Dasheng from the Escort agency and Scholar Wen. Yun’er, however, is a daughter of a violent alcoholic who sold her for 20 taels to a trafficker.
Yun’er overheard the transaction and went to Meng Hua for protection.
While Yun’er was alone at the restaurant with only Scholar Wen at the till, her father came to get her.
He was very insisted and pushed Scholar Wen violently on the ground and dragged the screaming Yun’er.
Thank goodness, Dasheng turned up and stopped Yun’er’s father.
By this time, Meng Hua and her husband also turned up.
They asked the father how much was he paid for selling Yun’er?
Scholar Wen said that 20 taels is equivalent to 3 years of Yun’er’s working in the restaurant. So if he sold her, where was he going to get the money afterwards?
The father did see reason afterwards.
Meng Hua asked Yun’er who she liked? Dasheng or Scholar Wen?
Yun’er had always been in love with Scholar Wen but for some reason, he was pushing her away, towards Dasheng.
But poor Dasheng. He was stabbed in the line of duty when the bank he was guarding got raided by thieves.
Now Yuhuai had to investigate and the first clue was a vagrant child who has one of the government silver in his possession.
Episode 32
It was Chief Ke’s retirement dinner and officially handed the escort agency to Huai.
The experience of danger during the last week made Meng Hua realised that she wanted a baby so Huai would think twice about leaving her and their baby. So cute.
She then cooked all kinds of oyster recipe which made mother-in-law giggle in anticipation of a grandson.
Episode 33
An elderly man came to Hua Jian Restaurant not as a diner but as a merchant of dried tea leaves.
It turned out that the man was Chef Wang’s father.
And what made the father extra special was that he was known in the culinary world as Wang Tonghe, the God of Chef.
It was immediate to know that Chef Wang does not get on with his father, who has nothing good to say about his son.
It was up to Meng Hua to reconcile the father and the son and she did it beautifully and kindly.
News of Master Wang Tonghe staying at Hua Jian Restaurant and that he had taken Meng Hua as his apprentice spread like wildfire.
Meng Hua, who is so honest to the bone, went to Master Wang to clarify the gossip with her. But Master Wang was unconcerned and told Meng Hua that he might as well teach her a recipe to make so she would feel as his apprentice.
Master Wang and Meng Hua went into the kitchen and he showed her how to make Mapo Tofu (I am going to make it, I wonder where I can get the secret ingredient of dried scallops?), apparently Mapo Tofu should be thickened three times.
Breeze Restaurant owned by the sneaky Chef Zhao invited Master Wang and Meng Hua to a chef evening.
Master Wang however was not interested because he went back to his house in the mountains.
Meng Hua and Chef Wang went instead and the evening ended up in drunken dizziness.
Episode 34
I love, love this drama. It has many nasty things which are likely to happen but in the end they don’t and I love that. LOL
Like what Chef Zhong was planning for the drunk Meng Hua/Xiao Mai. He was going to put Xiao Mai with an equally drunk Chef Wang in the same bed to make it looked like they were in a very compromising position but Huai arrived just in time to save his wife.
He then threatened Chef Zhong that if anything to happen to his wife, he can his life goodbye.
Huai carried his wife all the way home. His mother was equally worried about his daughter-in-law when they found that she was running a fever.
Huai did not waste any time and went to get a doctor who diagnosed that Xiao Mai was ok, just drunk. She should not be getting drunk in her condition being pregnant.
Yes! Xiao Mai is finally pregnant and everyone was happy and Xiao Mai was treated with kid’s glove. They don’t want her to go to the hot smoky kitchen for the first trimester.
To be fair she adheres to this.
It was so funny when she had her check-up with her doctor. Huai was with her. She was told to be careful, and what to do and then the doctor mentioned about sex.
Poor Xiao Mai did not know where to look and Huai immediately said for her to wait for him downstairs as he was going to speak to the doctor .. about the sex thing. This couple is so lovely.
Xiao Mai is getting bigger and her mother-in-law is a godsend.
Meanwhile the intrigue from this episode si Chef Song.
She came to Hua Jian to try a poached Chef Wang, who was really doing very well in the restaurant.
When Chef Wang finally came to see Xiao Mai, she told him that he was going to leave then…
Chef Wang was not happy. He was disappointed with Xiao Mai. He told her that the last thing he wanted to do was to leave Hua Jian. He would not do anything Chef Song would asked because she was a very untrustworthy woman.
Xiao Mai was happy to hear what Chef Wang said. She told him that she agreed the Chef Song was no friend of her and she can’t be trusted. She was now going to be fearsome toward Chef Song tell her to sling her hooks.
Episode 35
Learn new things everyday. Apparently to make unwanted guests to leave, just serve them boiled chicken feet and stewed pigs trotters. These were some of the dishes Meng Hua/Xiao Mai served Chef Song.
When Chef Song saw the dishes, she did not even touch them. She quickly said her goodbyes.
It was the time of the annual Eight Delicacies Contest which apparently had been widen to include restaurants from nearby towns and provinces. This meant Huan Jian Restaurant is qualified to enter.
Unfortunately, Meng Hua was not interested as by now she is heavily pregnant.
Chef Wang was disappointed and went to speak to Meng Hua to say that it was an honour for Huan Jian if they could qualify for the contest. He also said that he realised it would be rather too much for Meng Hua to join but if she was willing, he would go on behalf of their restaurant.
Meng Hua and Huai went with Chef Wang to the town to participate in the preliminary contest.
Episode 36 – Finale
Meng Hua won the Eight Delicacies Contest but Chef Song did not make it easy by giving her stress. However Meng Hua had a strong support from Huai, mother in law and her sous chefs.
To the end Chef Song tried to sabotage Meng Hua’s soup but Mother-in-law was such a battleaxe, Chef Song’s assistant did not stand a chance.
The juries said that Chef Song will be eliminated from the remainder of the contest but Meng Hua disagreed because she wanted to show that her soup was better that Chef Song.
When the judges had a taste of Meng Hua’s soup it was unanimously agreed that it taste so good with perfect texture.
She won the year’s contest.
When they went out of the scenic arena, they were met by friends, family, neighbours and co-workers. They were all happy for her.
Meng Hua imagined her grandfather giving her the thumps up. But he disappeared and then the pain. The baby is coming.
I have loved every single minute of this drama. The familial love is so apparent. It is a very heartwarming drama. Highly recomended.
I love the leads so much that I fervently hope that they do another drama together. Love them.
