New South Korean drama for March.

The story is about identical twin girls played by gorgeously elegant Lee Da-Hae.  These girls have  opposites characters and outlooks in life.  The elder girl is Cha Sun-hee who would do anything for anyone including writing off monies she worked her guts out to earn so that a swindler with a sad story could go on with her life.  Cho Da-hee on the other hand is self-centred and cold.

Both girls from a young age wanted to become flight attendants.  Sadly, their father who was a policeman died having been assaulted by thugs.  From then on their lives have changed for the worse.  They had to leave their comfortable home for something barely habitable.

Their mother worked really hard and so did Sun-hee to make ends meet.

When it came to college, both girls were given scholarships but they can only afford to send one to school.  Being so good-natured, Sun-hee insisted that Da-hee takes the place while she works to support her.

Da-hee worked hard as a flight attendant and became a model employee.  Unfortunately, she is not filial and doesn’t want a close relationship with either her sister and mother.

Sun-hee met Bong Chun Dae, a handsome and cheerful but rather hapless man.   He surprised her with a proposal and were married soon after.

During the wedding ceremony, Da hee came to berate Sun-hee about becoming a flight attendant herself in a rival airline.  Da hee told her that Sun-hee will be a mortal hindrance to her career as the model flight attendant.

That put paid to Sun hee’s ambitions.  She took stock of what Da hee said, being such a saintly sister, and scrapped her plans of training to be a stewardess herself.

Years passed, she had a lovely daughter who is mature beyond her age.  She often tells her mother to be more like Aunt Da hee so people won’t take advantage of her.

Out of the blue Da hee came-a-knocking to Sun hee’s house.

When Sun-hee opened the door, she found her sister about to pass out.  She rushed her to the hospital and found out that Da hee had a stroke and needed urgent surgery.  But before Da hee went for the operation she made Sun-hee promised to pretend to be her and go to the Sky Garden of the airline for the meeting.  There, someone will hand her something that is essential to Dahee’s life.

Sun hee did as her sister asked, before she knew it she was a full pledge flight stewardess and met the handsome but celibate pilot, Song Woo Jin played by the handsome and funny Ryo Suu Young.

Their interaction was hilarious.  Love it.

This drama is getting more complicated as more episodes are shown.

Sun Hee’s husband is having an affair and his horrible mother and sister took advantage of Sun Hee not being in the house by moving in.

Her sister is still in a coma.  She just found out that her comatose sister is involved in a conspiracy.

Face Off (Chinese Drama)

Woah, another Chinese drama.

I have seen this drama advertised a good few months ago but have not watched it until now.  I am sure you have noticed the amount of Chinese dramas that I have yet to continue summarising.

I did not want another one to be part of that statistic 🙂 ho ho ho  So I waited for all most of the episodes to be subbed before delving into it. I think it is safe now because there are 23 out of 42, which have been translated in English.  So watch this space.

Genre:  Romance

Cast:

  • Zhang Dan Feng as Wang Yi
  • Tan Song Yun as Chen Zhen
  • Ying Hao Ming as Wang Xiao
  • Dai Chao (代超) as Song Qian Jin
  • Yang Miao (杨淼) as Peng Mei Li
  • Zhang Han (张晗) as Zheng Xian Zi
  • A Nan (阿楠) as Lei Zi Fan
  • Hu Cai Hong (胡彩虹) as Xia Min Zhi
  • Wang Yu (王嵛) as Sha Tian
  • Zhou Zi Yan (周梓言) as Shen Yun

Apparently this drama is about make-up and how a good make-up artist can make someone looks entirely different.

Episode 1

Chen Zhen played by Tan Song Yun of My Mr Mermaid is a bit of a dreamer. She has this complex of wanting to be a superhero.

Unfortunately she is one of life downtrodden.  She works a a sales clerk in a beauty counter in a huge department store.  As a clerk, they have a quote of sale each day, unfortunately for her she is too honest to push forward the products.  She would advice customers to get a good night sleep, procure Chinese medicine or go for plastic surgery for a more immediate results.  🙂

One day, in a doldrum she noticed a man on the rooftop.  She went to him immediately to convince him not to commit suicide,  It turned out he was the general manager and she made him laugh.

Wang Yi (Zhang Dan Feng) is a leading prosthetic make-up artist, who was tasked to produced a stunning but unique fashion show.  The show was indeed fantastical and yet so real that there was audience participation.

Chen Zhen and her friend Qian Jin climb up the stage to help the leading supermodel being attack.  It was later found out that it was all part of the show.

Chen Zhen was being berated by the store manager for almost ruining the show but Wang Yi (aka as Master Ian) was there to say that the two did not ruin the say but actually it was the reaction he wanted to get.

Chen Zhen got fired anyway by her boss.

  • Genre:  Business, Romance
  • Release Date: 2018
  • Origin: China
  • CDrama: 41 Episodes

Cast:

I have just started watching this drama starring the glorious Yang Mi.

The story is about business, acquisitions, corporation, amalgamation, and conglomerate, where Tong Mei (Yang Mi) is on top of her job as a negotiator.

In her role as a negotiator, she met Xie Xiafei who is an heir of a Chinese American Corporation with 600 years history.

Though their relationship started with suspicion and animosity on both sides, there was chemistry between them that turned into mutual attraction until Tong Mei found out that Xiafei’s company had something to do with the death of her parents.

Fast forward several years later, they met again as negotiators of rival firms.

Episode 1

Tong Mei was in America, who was asked by her lawyer friend to help in negotiation at the last moment.  Of course, Tong Mei came through.

Xie Xiaofei was shown as a rather spoilt and self-destructive man.  During a monthly family get together, he was particularly harsh with his father and uncle.

Then the episode ended in a private hospital with Xie Xiaofei crying over his comatose mother.  You get then the reason why he was rather disrespectful to his father, who seemed to have acquired a new wife.

In the same hospital, he met Tong Mei, who was chasing after her recalcitrant younger sister.

Xiaofei found the sisters bickering outside the hospital room of his mother.  He arrogantly told them to get lost.

Episode 2

Tong Mei is back in Shanghai and now employed at CAEA, an American and Chinese international negotiation agency as a Team A lead negotiator.

Xie Xiaofei was sent by his father to Shanghai to head a development project.

Tong Mei and Xiaofei kept bumping with each other but they don’t like each other.

Episode 3

The first client of Team A is represented by Xie Xiaofei.  Tong Mei has tasked her team to find out everything about Xie Xiaofei which proved rather complicated.

Tong Mei is therefore unaware that the arrogant man she met in the hospital in the US was Xiaofei.

She was in for a big surprise when she waited all day and half the night at the hotel lobby to convince Xiaofei to attend a conference at the office the following morning.

And in walk the arrogant man, Xiaofei.

Episode 4

Team B went directly to Xie Xiaofei to convince him to use their team, who are made up of more experienced crew.

Xie Xiaofei announced that defending on the result of the contest that he would task them to do, the winner will represent him.

In the end, Tong Mei’s team won.

Episode 5

Tong Mei was going on a date with Lawyer Tian yu but was hijacked by Xie Xiaofei, who took Tong Mei to a club that provides gourmet food.  He said that he wanted to talk to her about the project but found her too haughty.

Xiaofei more or less forced her to eat caviar despite her protestation that she was allergic to seafood.

She ended up with stomach upset and vomiting.  She went home but Tian yu was waiting for her and took her to a ramen cafe, to settle her weak stomach.

Xiaofei saw them together and was rather upset because he went to the pharmacy to get anti-acid for Tong Mei.

We went back to his hotel room being rather annoyed.  Stupidly he took all the anti-acid tablets together and ended up with a severe stomach pain and loose bowel movement.  He had to call Tong Mei to take him to the hospital but he can’t get through to her.  In the end he drove himself but got involved in an accident.

He finally been able to contact Tong Mei who brought in Lawyer Tian yu with her to sort the driving accident.

Xaofei was very upset but was adamant the he did not run over the old man lying on the road in front of his car.

Tong Mei said she believes him.  In the end, the man in the accident woke up and said that he fainted due to not taking his pills for his high blood pressure.

Unfortunately, Xiaofei’s trouble did not end there because he had to have his stomach pumped.  🙂

Episode 6

After the hospital, Tong Mei took Xiaofei to eat a bowl of congee.  Xiaofei then carted the workaholic Tong Mei into an adult play gym.  They were climbing the wall when they both fell and Xiaofei took a little advantage by kissing her on the cheek, which made Tong Mei a little annoyed and insisted that playtime is over.

Flashback time

When Tong Mei was a young girl, both her parents died.  She wanted to use the little money they left to place the ashes of parents into a columbarium but her aunt said that it would eat up all the money, which should be used instead for her tuition fees.  Her aunt instead insisted that they spread the ashes at sea.

`it was the day of negotiations with the other party.  It did not start well for Tong Mei as her very professional suit was ruined by a child, who runs into her while eating an ice-cream.  It was later revealed that it was not an accident.  It was all planned by the other party to unsettle her.

Pretty Man (Chinese Drama Review & Summary)

  • Genre:  Youth, School, Romance, Family
  • Release Date: 2018
  • Origin:  China; Based on a novel, which made into a webtoon.
  • Cdrama:28 episodes

Cast:

I have been watching this drama, though only the first episode is subtitled in English, so far.

Based from what I have seen on the first episode, this would be another brilliant drama, starring My Mr Mermaid lead actor, Xiong Dylan  as Lu Jin Nian.

The lead girl is played by Li Sierra.  She is Qiao An Hao who comes from an affluent family, whilst Jin Nian was a self-supporting student.

The drama started on the present day.  Lu Jin Nian is now a president of his own lucrative movie company and An Hao is a bit actress.

It then showed that they are in a relationship, though rather a complicated one.

There was a wedding photo at An Hao’s apartment.  She was setting the table for two when there was a knock on the door and here comes Jin Nian.  The atmosphere was rather awkward though it ended in bed Jin Nian intoning an apology to the absent Jia Mu.

Then back to the past…

The two young protagonists first met one rainy day.  An Hao stared at the very pretty boy, Lu Jin Nian, who ignored her.  Seeing that he was not interested in any friendly chatter, An Hao transferred her attention to a snail in the rain, she held a leaf over the snail to protect it from the rain.  This somehow captivated the rather remote Jin Nian.  Upon noticing that An Hao’s dress is stained with blood from her menstruation, he covered her with his jacket and then quickly cycled off.

The next time they met was when she was with Jia Mu (played by Xu Yi Jie).

Jia Mu, it seems, is Jin Nian half-brother.  They share the same father.

Jia Mu lives in the mansion with his mother and father.  Jin Nian on the other hand support himself; his mother had passed away.

Though he can’t forgive his father for abandoning them and letting his mother die in utter poverty, he gets on with the warm-hearted Jia Mu.

I hope the next few episodes are to be subbed soon.  Subbers out there, please translate the episodes into English.

Episode 4

It is An Hao’s birthday celebration where Jin Nian was invited.  He gave her a silver necklace with an inscription of SHMILY.

Yep, I googled what it meant.  It is an acronym of See How Much I Love You.  Did you know?  🙂

Their sweet interlude was cut short by the evil stepmom.  She denigrated Jin Nian by saying he was not good enough for An Hao being an illegitimate child and all.

Episode 5.

Major Spoiler Alert

Episode 28

After so many misunderstandings between the couple, they have finally reconciled.  Awww

Aughhhh pain

Yep it did not last long; their lovey dovishness ended abruptly.

They literally had a mother of all disappointments.

It turned out that An Hao killed his mother.  LOL

In a sepia scene during the last 3 minutes of the finale of the first season, the young girl An Hao is seen delivering a bottle of milk to Jin Nian’s house.

It was the milk that killed his mother.  What?

I know, right?!!!

Upon realising this, Jin Nian pushed An Hao away from him and walked off.

An Hao was left reeling, thinking loudly, “What just happened?”

Obviously, there will be another series for this drama to reconcile the lovebirds?  Can Jin Nian find it in his heart to forgive and forget that An Hao was instrumental in the death of his beloved mother?!!!

The Girl Who Can See Smell (Kdrama Review & Summary)

The Girl Who Can See Smell poster

  • Genre:  Romance, Serial Killer, Crime, Police drama
  • Date Released: April 2015
  • KDrama: 16 Episodes

Cast:

  • Park Yoo-chun as Detective Choi Moo-gak

I am currently watching this series and I have to say, it is really good.  There are plenty of twists and turns.

It is about a girl who witness the murder of her parents by the serial bar code killer.  He tried to kill her as well but she was able to run away only to get run over by a car.  Her accident made her lose her memory.

During the assault, the bar code killer managed to pluck the girl’s name tag from her uniform.

The male lead shares a common experience with the girl as his beloved young sister was killed by the bar code killer as well.

The story is intelligently scripted.  It is very taut, very exciting.
